Some proper climbing stats there @ScottGriffin

Way to go Scott!
Are there any xml witch doctors out there who understand the intricacies of why some .gpx files work for VIRB and some do not?

FWIW, I recently lost a KoM to someone with "e bike" in his Strava handle.

If he was using an e-bike, is that Strava doping.
Well that's no good.

does this mean it's set to get worse?

With Strava moving toward an IPO, product and engineering teams may see pressure to ship what I call “checkbox features.”

These are features leadership, the board, or other top stakeholders view necessary, usually to keep up with competitors/market. The goal isn’t depth, quality, or iteration, but simply letting executives check it off.

For Strava, "Athlete Intelligence" is an example: it mostly restates data we can already see, but lets them say they have AI. Or the new "Power Skills" it gamifies power-to-category charts, but adds little value if you ride often or have been on Strava for years.

The product and engineering teams likely know this and would love the chance to refine and iterate, but instead they’re pushed to the next checkbox. Ask me how I know. 😉

On the flip side, Strava’s recent navigation features became best in class and pulled competitors' users. When the teams are allowed focus and time, they deliver awesome work.

Sidenote, Strava runners have exploded over the last five years and remains a major growth sector for them. That growing user base will be central to a IPO story.
