Tour of the Catskills

@Derek - there is a guy in your field who is very strong and will be in the best disguise ever. His name is Hayden Judd and he'll be wearing a Gran Fondo NY jersey (& bibs likely). He's part of their G.S. GFNY (the ambassadors for the event) and came in 24th overall on the timed climbs.

By way of comparison, he did Bear Mtn in 18:15 and J.P. did it in 18:51. I don't know how hard either were going, but he will be able to hold his own on any climb. If you can stick to his wheel you'll be doing fine and he'd be a good partner in any breakaway.
Hey, just realized this was happening this weekend. Surprised to see the lack of chatter, and small Kissena registration numbers. It seemed like this was a real highlight of the season for many Kissenas last year.

Good luck to all who are racing this weekend. Looking forward to the reports.

P.S. If you are jonesing for more stage racing, the Green Mountain Stage Race over Labor Day weekend. It's a great race, in a great location.
Good luck guys. I love this race, first time in three years I won't be there.

Have at it. It's not one that takes a lot of brains. Just fight like hell to make the selections.
First P4 spotted

Yeah it's on NBC but Phils going to mistakenly call the race the US Pro Challenge. Don't worry he's just getting a little old.
Cat 5 I hope?
Chiles is going to finish the TT in about 10 minutes... Think fast thoughts his way.

TT results?
I stunk the joint up.  6 seconds slower than last year, 19th place.

1:30 behind leaders.

Peter is one second behind me.

It was 95 degrees out.
Kids are both sick.
I'm old.
Something very bad is happening in my stomach.
It has been a long season.
Bad EPO supplier.
Pick your excuse.

Tomorrow is another day though, and those big guys are in for a rude awakening (insert evil grin emoticon)

Oh, and the Jr. I was warming up next to (all 115 pounds of him) expected to do "about 350" for his tt effort.  That's watts...

1:30 behind leaders is nothing in that race. You're right where you need to be. Get some rest and get after it tomorrow.
Thanks Ryan.

Derek caned it like a mofo.  I'll let him post his insane HR numbers himself.

New nickname for that guy "Full Gas"
Oh, and thanks all for the texts, emails etc.  Really makes a difference, and is greatly appreciated.

There are a *lot* of moving parts in these stage races; enough to make me ask "WTF" am I doing here more than a few times... :)
Well I went "ham" as the kids say and still finished 4:30 back. I guess spending last week in London drinking pints and not riding did not help me. I haven't pulled the data down but my HR avg was 188.
I for one am beginning to worry about our latest edition, Peter Bysshe.  Is it just me or does he look like he's enjoying this?

(Oh, and for the kit-obsessed, he's rocking the Elite-Pro Jersey)

Scratch that, avg 184 max 196
A little blurry, but here I am...

Loving the juxtaposition of how deep in it you are, and the random happy folks crossing the road behind you
There were folks?

Score another for the Wump; I took the 2nd last 90 degree right as wide as I could, keeping a ton of speed and passing someone in front of me.

That advice is a gift that keeps on giving :)
makes me feel all warm.  The skinsuit and blocked-vent aero helmet in 95-degree humid weather.
Quick vote guys; GoPro facing forward or backwards for Devils Kitchen?
Bysshe: You look like you're photo-bombing your own TT. Clean it up.

Chiles: Call Stearns immediately for some extremely important information.

Alabaster Disaster: Acceptable pain face, kudos for avoiding the dog.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the trivially easy stage of Catskills. Don't end up in a ditch tomorrow.

Backwards . . . Obviously
No go pro - it adds weight!
^
backwards
yep def backwards, i wanna see some pain-ridden faces! good luck tomorrow!
"Lie in the ditch!!!!"
the only way you can justify gopro (backwards, naturally) is if your bike is already below the UCI weight limit.
I WALKED

Report to follow nap, consolation with Beer.

Weather.com said high of 82, was easily north of 104

^yikes

Looking forward to hearing about it.

Btw, Whitey is killing the game with the commentary right now.  Major lols over here.
Been there done that!

I walked up the steepest part of DK two years ago.
