Kissena is offering a three day race tactic camp with Scott Moninger and Tim Cusick of Veloscious Coaching as well as our own mentors on Fri-Sun May 18-20th in Trexlertown PA. You already know our coach Tim. Scott is the USA winningest male pro, 2 time Velonews rider of the year and a damn good racer. Google him.
The camp would consist of:
In addition to learning skills, riding bikes and getting to know Tim and Scott it’s a great opportunity to have fun and get to know your teammates. If you are unfamiliar, Trexlertown PA is home of a velodrome (and the Nittany cyclocross race) but also the Bob Rodale (think Bicycling magazine) park which has a closed bike circuit as well as great local roads for riding. It is near Allentown and an hour drive from Philadelphia.
We expect camp to cost $150 for the weekend plus travel, food and lodging. We plan on getting a block discount for a hotel, so two nights should be about $200 double occupancy and $100 if you share a room with three teammates. Alternatively I found a local Airbnb for $80 a night for 6 people. We expect that members will be able to carpool to the camp.
Do I have your interest? Let us know so we can plan whether to move ahead with this camp. Please respond with a post on this thread indicating how likely you are to go (definitely, most likely, maybe, no), and whether you would be interested in a double, quad or Airbnb. Add whatever other comments you may have. Able to offer a ride to PA? Have a significant other who would be willing to drive a support vehicle? Let us know
Oh the memories! That's gonna be #hotnessSunday morning, a different route which will again provide different options. The masochists amongst us will definitely tackle Devil’s Kitchen.
There is no "riding" down. Consider it more of a "fatal plunge".niallsmart said:Patrick, to confirm did you mean ride up or down Devils Kitchen?
The doodle poll results are in and Kissena's weekend away in the Catskills is planned for the weekend of May 18-20. Use the link below to sign up and pay the $50 deposit to reserve your spot and enable us to reserve housing.
The weekend: The plan is to carpool from NYC area to Catskills after work on Friday May 18th. Expect a two hour drive from the GWB without traffic. Saturday morning we ride. Route options can be discussed and chosen on the forum, one option being the 80 mile Tour of the Catskills route. We will have lunch and coffee stops. We can also discuss having a group meal at the house Saturday night. Sunday we will ride a different course and head back to the house after lunch. We have arranged for a delayed checkout so we can shower and change after lunch. At that point we carpool back to NYC.
Housing costs: We are requesting that members sign up by Sunday April 22nd so that we can get an accurate headcount and ensure enough comfortable beds at a reasonable rate. Your housing cost will be your share of the total housing costs which will depend on the number of guests. If we are able to secure this AirBnB location we should expect total housing to be around $100 for the weekend. Be aware that until the location is reserved there is a chance that alternative arrangements will be necessary which means there is a possibility housing costs per person may go as high as $150.
A note about sleeping arrangements. Members will need to share bedrooms. Twin, double and sofa beds will not need to be shared but King and possibly Queen beds may need to be shared depending on the number of members.
In order for us to make this weekend in the above house we need to have a minimum of eight members attending. The doodle poll indicated 11 members wanted to go the weekend of the 18-20th. If we get fewer than eight sign ups we will reserve a smaller house which will limit our ability to add members later on. If you sign up and cannot make the weekend you will get your deposit back as long as we have at least eight members going. If the number drops below eight then someone will need to take your spot in order to get your deposit back. This keeps the other members from having to absorb your costs if you cannot make it.
Transportation: Indicate on the form if you are able to offer rides. Members will arrange carpools on the forum. Member without cars are encouraged to contribute to tolls and gas
Food: Indicate on the form whether you would like to have shared breakfasts (Sat and Sun) and dinner (Sat only). If the majority choose to have shared meals then the club will purchase meals for the house and costs will be split among members.
This should be awesome.
