Branchbrook NJ Spring Series

Is anyone going to Branchbrook that has an extra seat available for a ride? It looks awful tempting, esp with the high temps and low turnout.
For those wondering what they'll do to improve their BBrook racing the day after Saturday's race.   Sunday 3/21/14,
Remember there is.....
Our Early Season Day at the Velodrome

Yeah, I know.  You put in race efforts on Saturday.
Worry not.  The velodrome is pretty flat.  And even tired you can get going really fast.
Here is your chance to work on all important pacelining, bridging, and lead out skills.  These will come in handy at approximately all mass-start races you do.
I've called around and rides seem scarce. I'm prob doing Central Park Sunday instead...
@craig, Depending on weather forecasts I think whitey and I are heading out there. Let me know if you want a lift.
Hey David-
Thanks for the lift offer. I'm headed to Central Park Sunday instead. Good luck racing saturday!
No problem, let me know if you change your mind.

A lot of Kissenas in the 4/5 pre-reg list.  Let's make something happen.  Who is feeling strong?  I'm recovering from a pretty rough cold this week and have minimal training.
I should have some legs tomorrow for the first 4/5 race. I'll try to get in a move around the middle of the race (three to go or so). If nothing is getting away, I'll be near the front near the right side toward the end of the race if a lead out happens to materialize.
Alas...my final cat IV race.  I'm up for anything !

I'm feeling confident after sticking the break last week at the pp spring series. I'm ready to make a move.
With the two Jeffs rolling the dice, I think we've got some good chances tomorrow.
Boom, we have our sprinter.  If the field is all together at the last lap, Kissenas to the front and let's get a leadout for Yacks to send him off to the the 3s with a podium.
It would be super boss if there were 2 Kissenas in a break.
I'll be there tomorrow for both races.
I'm out. I have a cold and fever right now.
Get well soon Phil. Hope to see you out racing next weekend.
I'm out. I have a cold and fever right now.
sleep, sleep, sleep. soup. juice. ginger ale. TV. internet. repeat.

Looks like Yacks sprinted to 3rd place today. Yang in 9th. Which I'm guessing means he was there for the Yacks leadout. Which means they executed it perfectly. I'm just reading tea leaves though from a Facebook pic of the results sheet...can't wait for the report fellas!
You guys are better than velonews

Race #1: Yacks got that 3rd in the break.  I was in the initial break of 3 but fell off the back after taking a big pull to keep it away (weak excuse, Yang).  Luckily Yacks and about 4 other guys had just bridged up at that point.  Kissena continued to block the ever loving crap out of the field.  I think I took second in the very unmotivated field sprint.

We made an oath to punch Yacks in the nads if he didn't stay with the break.  Lucky for him he stayed away and took 3rd.  No nads were harmed and there was much jubilation instead.
Race #2: A weirdly hilarious race.  A cyclocross guy (who looked like Thor and raced in a billowing snowboarding windbreaker in race 1) decided to take a flyer on the first lap right after the parking lot.  His friend (a strong woman racer wearing a gojipower kit) bridged up but fell off after half a lap.  He continued to stay away up until the final uphill of the bell lap.  There were intermittent chase attempts and a few bridge attempts, but the field seemed very unmotivated.  ProPower guy (who was in the break in race 1), Chari & Co dude, another guy, and myself (and other random guys throughout) would take pulls to bring CX guy back but it would quickly become disorganized.  So CX guy was dangling about 7-15 seconds ahead the entire time.  He must have had a fun 40 minute time trial.

At the bell lap, just before the south bend and 90degree left, Chari & Co. dude (not Jun Sugai) who had no team mates was vocally pissed off and dug deep to chase Thor down by himself.  It was down to the field sprint and a few of us were in pretty decent positions, but my legs just didn't want to turn anymore so I rolled in mid pack at 16th.
Eric got 4th in 35+ breakaway. Almost snagged the win.

I got away in a big break in the 123 and got 7th. Kinda pissed I fucked up the finish. More later. Off to Philly for baby shower. Fun!!!
Legs were super heavy by the end of the 2nd 4/5 race. Ended up 7th in the sprint.
Pretty much what Yang said.

One fun anecdote: There was a chase group of about six coalescing off the front of the first race that I caught a ride up to. Yacks was not too far up the road in what would be the winning break. Right when I got there, a big strong rider took a locomotive pull at the front, slid off and exhorted us all to start rotating. I didn't think it would be a great idea to dilute Yacks's break so much so I promptly attacked from the back of the group, dropping the freaky strong dude and everyone else but two. We lasted about three minutes. I looked at the power after, and the break-ruining attack (which didn't feel like anything special) was over 1000w. I think I can work with that!

If you need a break sploded you know who to call.
Congratulations Chris!! Way to go guys. I would've of loved to have seen that Thor dude.
Cat IV Coda

It is with a heavy heart that I move on from the IV field.  Too manny great memories to recant...So many selfless acts committed by teammates to help me grab green and polkies for the squad.  Jersey hunting is chock full o' anxiety and stress that may not have been evident on my cherubic face...but I assure you it was there.  Helping Dan grab his green jersey 2 years ago was very satisfying as he slayed it for years on the green train.  (Jim Nelson...u too u old billy goat!).  But they say you should always leave a party when you are having fun.  With that I'm off to join the I-II-III circus.
Today was a great way to go out.  I thought I would sit in and be safe as a warm up for the masters race.  When Dave when up the road, I moved towards the front to block and a Marty's Reliable guy jumped hard....dragging me straight up to the move. There was a quick reshuffling and then there was pain...the kind of pain that would make an Opus Dei member blush.  The gap was opening, but the hammer stayed down.  I was WAY over my limit.  Today there were three things to be certain of;  death, taxes and me staying in that god damn break !  There was no way in hell I was getting shelled from a winning break in my last race as a IV.  I told my companions that I had teammates blocking (which has proven to boost power in the break by 50 watts).  I also feared getting donkey punched in the junk by all my teammates.
Now a direct force power meter is going to report higher than a Powertap due to drive train power loss. The Stages #'s = Avg. power 276      weighted avg. 291       20 minute 301
I have not felt pain like that since I walked the aisle on my wedding day.
In closing, if you are on Kissena and get dropped from a break you had best be an Eunuch or be packing one of these...
Yacks
Oh and in the sprint...I did my best to finish 3rd...not much to say sprinting from a break is like watching old people shag...ugly and uncomfortable.
Kissena cheering and a Perlberg ham hock
P.S. konrad I've got a $5 bill with your name on it! Welcome to the 123 big time!
All I can say was that I wasn't going to miss today's breakaway in the masters. A group formed a chase made its way across to the group and I was bridging as that happened. Much of the chase couldn't make it to the break, I rode through the chase as my bridging goal was the break. Diaslaski, durso, frank O'Reilly, Alessandro matteucci and one other. O'Reilly was ripping legs off today. Good group good representation.

We had 6, the hammer went down. Holy shit I was in a world of pain. After a couple laps of sitting on to let my hamstrings recover. I joined in the fun. We quickly out time on the field and we never left off the gas. At the end I had no idea where the field was.

Nobody bid for glory and attacked, but we finally slowed on the homestretch and I found myself behind Diaslaski. We were going 18mph maybe 20mph and we had to lead it out. Up the rise and once we crested I drifted left to the curb to avoid sheltering anyone from the wind. I punched it and put in a really solid sprint. I thought I had it and in the last 50m I finally saw people on my right. Just pipped by less than a wheel for 4th on the day. The win required just a hair bit more effort or just waiting another second.

All things considered, I was cooked. 1:03 NP of 321w. I have other numbers but this was ungodly hard.

123 race. I cramped with two to go, but fi ished. 68miles of torture today.

I owe Whitey and Yacks for the race.

Thanks guys.
