They started flat, but the problem was as people jumped them the moist ground compacted making the gap visible below them....un cool.

Karl actually came up to me sunday because he was stoked that i made it over the second one with backwards bike, got to the asphalt, bounced the bike off both wheels in disgust, flipped it, caught it, remounted and rode off.

Nowhere near as embarsssing as "peppo wants a doughnut ".

How cool does this course look? Where do you find sand sections like that. Long wide grass straightaways. Spectator friendly.

Are these courses constructed or do they just have great venues to use for CX racing?

THat sand is just awesome!

Koksijde is located on the coast, so it is possible that the sand was just there. Also notable of the course was its lack of barriers.

This is very true. There was also a moment where somebody missed their remount and viewers were treated to a slow motion replay complete with "doinggggg" sound effects.

My first idea was that they would not want to schlepp all the way to Eisenhower Park and that I would get rid of them, but when they told me they would go there, I thought it would be nice to have them film the cx race and other Kissena members. I still don't understand what the whole point of this video is, but since they show some cx action, it cannot be bad! Now if Claudette, the first surgeon who is interviewed in the clip, had not told me almost three years ago she would have to replace my left knee soon, I would have tried cx. I haven't, but as you heard, I am nevertheless a cx competitor!

Okay, went to a cross race in Overijse today. The course was set up yesterday (passed it on a quick ride) and I saw it in action today. Whoa. From what I can tell, cross courses are set up as they are in the US: An organizer is given a set amount of space and just has to be creative with it. The most similar course I can think of, compared to this one, is the CycleSmart International. Crazy steep hill into some really twisty-turny woods and then a nice steep descent through some trees onto a flat part of the course (which only lasted about 500m until you hit a cobblestone hill to go back up into really muddy twisty-turny bits. The descent was a little insane. In addition to roots and rocks, the ground was soggy and lots of dudes ate very high speed shit.
