Fantastic race to watch - liked seeing the team car footage in this piece but I don't get this video. It seems like they threw a bunch of footage at an intern and asked them to cut an emotional video... a little overkill with the Dark Knight & Gladiator scores at the end of the race. I stopped watching at that point. Maybe it got better. Race was great though

So, after racing this morning, I hustled home, changed, managed some kids, moved on to my kids school where I was helping with a Learn to Ride Class.

For reasons I don't know, a UCI world champion came by to help out.

Ok, so this isn't strictly a picture post but I felt that taking a shot at the time would be a jerk move... but I've gotta tell you all about this bike I saw on 2nd avenue this week.

"Diora Racing Team" (Image searches didn't find anything even remotely close) black road frame with "faux aero" aluminum tubing.

Let me list the amazeballs features:

Pie Plate
Flat Pedals
Mountain bike rear derallieur guard
"Aero" alumunim downtube
60mm or greater rims
Presta Adaptor still on the valve
Stem Shifters
Rear axle mounted (black) kickstand
Clear plastic chainring guard (tripple chainring)
Some kind of soft saddle pad

I've truly never seen such a density of bike horror. Who am (or was) I to steal the owners joy or engage in 'bike shaming' but... behind closed doors - wow. Just... wow.

I maintain that we can learn a lot from the "lone wolves" of cycling. These are the riders who follow no rules but their own, and their independence should serve as a source of inspiration. If we sectarians can't respect each-other, then we can at least join together in our mutual respect for them. You may be disinclined to wave to the roadie with the spotless white booties and matching shoe covers, or to the fixter with the expensive jeans and the handmade man-purse, but you can certainly find it in yourself to doff your helmet or cycling cap or flat-brim to a fellow like this:
