This is a private forum. Were the club to decide to make it public I'd want to know ahead of time, and make my decision about what content of mine would and would not stay.

My older son and I did some downhill mountain biking and trail riding in Massanutten, VA last week. Thanks to @mugwump for the awesome jersey!

I have three kids jerseys to give away.  the largest is a Pearl Izumi, I figure 8-10, the other two are probably more in the 6 range.  Let me know.

My 9 year old went mtn biking with his class today, and the weather has been on & off so he ended up overdressed.

FWIW, my daughter has chosen to watch the Tour with me this year.

Like lots of people, mayhem is an easy entre.  She started asking me about 'what was the craziest thing that ever happened?' so I cued up a few YouTube videos.  A guy crashing into a dog, Froome running without his bike, and then I showed her Dumoulin's poop incident.  This was over-the-top funny for her.  She kept replaying the video and memorizing the commentary and sharing it with friends.  (lest we think the poop incident only resonates with kids; there's a video of Dumoulin in front of what appears to be his hometown, and the first question the guy with the mic asks him is about the poop incident)

She loved the Mu-Num-un-NUH Van Avermaet video as well.  And the Mitchelton-Scott follow up.  

We start the day's race by watching the very opening on the Ad-Free telecast, and then go to the intermediate sprint and then start watching with about an hour remaining.  A few days when we missed it live, she even cued up the replay video to 20k to go.

My daughter would like at this point anything that is on the TV, but must say she says “bici bici” whenever we watch the tour.

she also enjoys watching me swift and would throw a “bravo papá” every once in a while.

I picked my 18 year old son up from Covid infested college today 
he used to watch the tour years ago when Nairo was also a kid , never was in to riding a bike for sport , but I built him up an old Schwinn last year , which he spins around brooklyn on 
but today he asked if you want to maybe do a lap or two of the park together ❤️

The kind of company that know there are probably as many people that own two brownstones as there are that own one, and they're always looking for new ways to signal to one another.

First it was the $1k strollers, but there were too many copycats that looked almost the same...

Oscar slid out on a steel plate at 42nd and Broadway.  Hurt his wrist.  Since it was still hurting two days later and he was still complaining, I took him to the doctor, who suspected a buckle fracture.  Had it X-rayed.  Not broken. Much relief.  And I guess he got the life experience of having to wait around for a long time in a doctor's office to find out nothing is wrong.  

But on the subject of kids, does anyone know of any bike touring companies that do trips for teens in the US?  

I’ve been searching for bike touring groups that focus on teen trips.  I’ve found very little.  I’ve reached out to League of American Bicyclists, Adventure Cycling Association, Hosteling International, even Trek Travel and Backroads bike touring. Nobody seem to know much of anything.    

I have found four thusfar.  Teen Treks, Apogee, Overland, and SHP.  I’m surprised that there are only four in a nation of 330 million, even if cycling isn’t huge (yet).  Teen Treks seems to be the biggest; they seem to have several URLs that redirect to one of two different home pages.  One of those URLs has AYH in the name.

@mugwump glad it was nothing serious. What kind of trip are you looking at? Self guided, guided, guide with a bunch of other teens, etc.

Teens guided by an adult or two.  Probably more on the self-supported side.  in the 7-17 day range.  And considering lack of experience, probably more hostel-to-hostel, and not camping.

Sounds much more like an outward bound situation; might consider a different sport, rather than trying to get that square peg into the round hole, tbh. Same goodness, the bike will still be there when he get's back.

Actually, such trips are offered by at least two of the outfits I mentioned.  Cape Cod is a popular setting, as it at least used to have several hostels on the Cape, as well as on Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.  I just did a search on hostels on the Cape, and found it appears to be down to two, and the MV hostel will be closed for 2021, and the Nantucket hostel appears to have closed for good.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it would be the third or fourth kid-related bike project I've contemplated in the past few years.  And it would be the hardest, by far, to pull off.  I'd be better off creating a clearinghouse page, which I might do on one of my existing sites just to call attention to this and help people who might be in my shoes.  

My daughter's camp typically has a bike tour option for kids finishing 9th or 10th grade. It's co-ed with the boy's camp down the road and is part of a travel and service program that also has options for international travel. Alas, the bike trip is not happening this year because the international stuff is not available so they have decided to keep the entire program local and perform service in the local community and focus more on day trips.

So, I guess my point is that perhaps there are other options that aren't necessarily run by a bike focused organization. 

And glad Oscar is ok. Those steel plates are a menace. I know someone that went down on one and had some pretty serious injuries.

Summer camps/trips all seem to be on the bubble these days.  Some outfits are being proactive and already saying no to 2021, while others are hedging.

Might you be able to share the name of your daughter's camp?  Interested to learn what they do.

Chimney Corners in Beckett MA - the associated boy's camp is called Camp Beckett.

Oscar and I did our second-annual Four Boro Bike Tour Saturday.

Rode north and east into The Bronx,then over to Randalls Island, a 3/4 laps of the Island, over the 102nd street bridge to Manhattan, along the East River to 59th, over the Queensboro, then made our way over to the Kosciusko, and south from there to Prospect.

Stopped for a bar and then bathroom break in Prospect.  Saw @DiegoSanchez (I believe) and @RobertMullen .  Then we started riding again.

On 5th avenue in Brooklyn, Oscar started complaining about hunger again.  Figuring the best move is fast food, I suggested he get us two plain bagels and we could go.  Only he decided he wanted an everything bagel with lox.  Couldn't believe he scarfed it down in about five minutes.  Then back up, over the Brooklyn Bridge, and home up 8th ave.

Doesn't look it from the picture, but the BB is more crowded than I've seen it since the pandemic.  But, then, so, too was Prospect.  Not a lot of social distancing going on there.
