Good: just went on a run in the sleet/rain with shorts on and a cute chick told me I was "hardcore". Win.
Bad: I decided to rest and stretch and clean my belly button lint, only to discover a nice little bit of what I assume is intestine popping in/out. I had inguinal hernia surgery 2 years ago. Not fun.
Has anyone had an umbilical hernia before and what did you do? I'm thinking this is one I can live with for awhile by just avoiding certain abdominal exercises/stretches. Don't have time/$ for surgery right now. I think it's just super tender from me fucking with it, otherwise I would've never noticed.
Yeah. Depends on the seriousness of the hernia. Mine tool closer to a month to feel normal-ish. Still feels tight and tearing sometimes if I stretch a certain way.
Thanks to Ragot's cx skillz lessons I was able to keep it upright. I'm glad I called the cops tho. I was getting ready to ride off but the guy was a major shitbird and I recalled the times when I've tried to be "cool" and gotten screwed. No broken bones, just massive hematoma. I'm a monster!
Also thanks to Ragot for picking up bike at the scene and waiting at ER. And making dinner. We're dating!
hah shit...Ive come very close to getting doored, managed to swerve around and said smthg but the driver failed to see how it was a problem and yelled back smthg along the lines of 'so what?'
that sucks, wrap it in some ace to immobilize it apart from the stuff im sure you already do. I find it helps tremendously when I injure anything ankle-related.
Just wanna give shout out of gratitude to the main sponsor of the Kissena Prospect series Lucarelli and Castaldi.
Phil Castaldi has been extremely helpful getting all the paperwork sorted from my accident last week. Super nice guy and knows what he's doing, even tracking down the doorer's insurance info bc the NYPD didn't fill it out on the report.
Anyway, it's guys like this that remind me of that while we're all local schmucks that aren't very good, there is a connection between people who like cycling. Well, not all of us....but many! It's awesome they support the series too.
Anybody ever had acupressure? I've gotten some massage and acupuncture treatments for my chronically stiff mid/lower left side back, but was thinking I should try this instead.
Thanks for any recommendations/suggestions, duders.
I've posted this Bicycling Mag "Stretching For Cyclists" before, but correct stretching (where you're engaging specific muscle groups) is great preventative.
Stretching? Is that when you get a feed zone bottle and it's a little farther away that you like? What is this "Stretching" that you speak of? Is is some kind of interval?
Was out last night doing some pretty hard LT intervals. Towards the last set, the inside left of my right knee started to give me some real grief. By the time i got home, ithurt even to clip in. This morning feels a little better although it's definitely still sore.
Monday night I did some sprint intervals, but before that pretty much had 10 days off the bike. So I don't think it's "over-use". And I've put over 1000 miles on the bike since getting fitted by Al, never once having a problem. So I have to believe its not fit-related.
Anyone had a similar experience? How best to treat it? Or should I just HTFU?
Ice and ibuprofen (or another antiinflammatory). Do not continue riding hard once it starts hurting. In fact, don't ride so hard that it starts hurting. HTFU is definitely not a sustainable strategy.
Thanks jules & dstokes. That's just really shitty timing: why couldn't this have happened the day before I went away?! The injury would have received 10 days of bacon sandwich-fuelled rest.
I threw my lower back/upper hip out right side yesterday morning. It's been hurting pretty bad. I think it's stemming from a core workout I did on Sunday where I got a little over zealous doing supermans and side planks.
I didn't turn funny or anything to trigger it..it just happened on its own while I was sitting. I couldn't move at first but as the day went on it got a little better. But then it tightened up again as my activity decreased at night
I've been taking alleve and magnesium, been doing some stretching and massaging with the Stick. Last night I also slept with a heating bad periodically on throughout the night. It feels a tiny bit better today. Just now I did some massage on my Grid hard foam roller which while excruciating seems to have helped just a bit.
