The very reason I scored a set of these last year after cracking my carbon hoops at Prospect

Agreed, the road is a mess.  Stay to the left at the top, near the 3rd street entrance for most of the road to 15th street.
Avoid the pothole at the bottom of the big downhill, to the left of the center white line, before the grass divide.
If you ride over any of the crappy road, check your bottle and watch for them on the ground - someone will lose one, no doubt.
In the final group, just avoid the right side during the finish.  If you can't, hang on, it's going to get bumpy.  There's a huge pothole just to the right and behind Jeff's pic.  Scout it before the race - not sure if they filled it today.
Hoping someone does an orange spray paint job in front of these at some point.
I'm in for the 1/2/3.

Love to shoot for the master's jersey early on as well, but mostly, I just want to do well, and if the jersey is the fruit of that, all the better.

BTW, whitey, send that pic to Charlie I.
Any patch of the hole is better than the hole.
I'm in for 4s.  I have no personal goals other than finishing safely.

Looks like I'll be joining the 1/2/3 crew racing this weekend in PP. In years past I've attempted to organize some strategy with team meetings and such. In general the response has been, literally in one case, "my plan is to go out and ride hard and kick ass." It's the kind of team planning and DS-ing that would make Oleg Tinkov proud.

That said, I can't help myself, and I'll try again. #newyear #newteam

If JP wants the master's jersey, and wear the x-rated gray kit, then he has to be consistently the best placed old dudes from week to week. His best chance will come from being in the right breakaway. Which means someone will have to grab his jersey to stop him from going after every move off the front.

Vlad is registered and I expect will be visualizing all the pain he really wants to be experiencing at Coxsackie and take it out on the field in Brooklyn. As such should be good for an early breakaway.

Dan Strika also is registered. No idea what his fitness is this year, but if you find yourself in trouble at the back of the pack, like I did a few years ago, he'll probably save your skin and get you back in the action.

Jake Jolly is not registered as far as I can tell, but if he shows up, he's proven that he knows how to get in and stay in a breakaway. He's a good weapon for our team.

I'm looking to tune up my sprinter's legs, and think I would look fetching in green. The local 1/2/3 sprinting scene is notoriously obnoxious and scary, but if I see an opportunity I'm going to go for it. (Is the green jersey sprint across the new start/finish?) I won't necessarily be looking for help, but if I'm feeling confident and ballsy, and one of you is within earshot, I'm going to not be shy about asking.

Edit: Looks like Jake is registered for the other L&C cup...in New Jersey.
I'm going
Hey dudes,

Craig L. and I will be doing Branchbrook tomorrow. I wish this race were on Sunday, so I could double, but alas, life is about choices ... and I really dig the fast rolling course at Branchbrook. I'll definitely be doing as many of the L&C Cup races at PP as I can in the future.

Go kick some ass!
Some quick notes about tomorrow's Cat 4 race:

1. We have 5 guys registered but note that we are not the largest team with Dave Jordan and the L&C team having more guys registered.

2. We should aim to stay near the front 30% of the field thought the race so we can communicate but also so we can be ready bridge to breaks. I know what you're thinking: "breaks never stick in Cat 4 races at the park." While it is rare, there have been successful breaks including the first race of last season in which I earned my first KOM jersey. The winter has been crap and racers' fitness will be all over the place. A break may be more likely to stick - especially if some of the above teams are represented.

3. Communicate with me and the other teammates during the race. I can't emphasize this enough. The dynamics of the race are going to change as the race unfolds and it will help if we act in concert: bridging, blocking, getting ready to counter attack, etc.

4. If we do end up with a field sprint, let your teammates know how you are feeling. Do you have enough to try to contest the finish or are you happy to help get a teammate into position and then avoid the carnage? Let everyone know and work together.

5. Finally, let's meet at Konditori for coffee and muffins.

6. One more thing. I feel under the weather but okay to race. If that turns for the worse overnight and I don't make it, I encourage you guys to identify someone to act as road captain and continue as planned.

See you in the AM!
I almost forgot...

Don't forget to help out with Registration to get your free race entry. This is a Kissena race and Charlie depends on us.

Hey all,as Patrick said, a reminder that we need registration volunteers! As an all volunteer club we rely on members to pitch in when they can. Please arrive around 530, pin up, and sign people in.
Thanks Dave, yes we need volunteers for registration. You race for free if you do per Charlie.
I'll be on the start line on the 18th.
Where do I park these days?  I've just been parking near the zoo and riding up the hill at Prospect to get to the start finish...as I know there is a port-pod near the old start finish should the bathrooms be locked...Is this my best option?  Pre-race elimination is a major part of my pre-race warm up. Please help

Yack,

There is a parking lot adjacent to the Lichfield House?? which is next to the 3rd street entrance on Prospect Park West.

Sorry that I can't make it tomorrow and race with you guys , I crashed out of nowhere last Sunday on my way from Piermont and my knee is still pretty much bruised. I'm going to do some solo riding instead in and around Rockland County tomorrow.
 Feel better Thierry.
That was just shitty luck Thierry. Do take it easy on your knee, it looked pretty gnarly.

What's the drainage situation in PP these days? Cuz it's supposed to Thunderstorm/rain basically all night long.
Balls....how do we know if Charlie cxl's?
Charlie will post to facebook if it's cxl'd = either way there should be time to get out to Branchbrook
They did some serious repairs on the drainage at the chute. I expect it should be dry.
The road surface?  Not bad.  My rear tubbie went squishy 20 miles in...at that point the race had fractured into about 4 groups. Me's thinks I was just catching the 2nd group when the tire blew.  The wind was real today but compared to Floyd on Thursday...today felt like a tail wind. I felt great today and was riding well....Someone who actually finished will have to give a real race report.   Still 317 watts for 20 miles = I'll take it

FWIW, Mike Perlberg, who was in the lead group all day, reports that he averaged 305 watts, 320-something NP for the race.

I set some new power records, but to be honest, stop me if I've offered this advice/tip before, unless I'm contesting a sprint, I'm actually not happy to set power records during a race. During a race, unless I have a specific job, I want my work to result ratio to be low to high.

Like, why did I take turns pulling with JP on the front early, when Bedzdek and other semi pros and assorted studs were just chillaxing? Because I'm stupid. And sometimes I still get in my own way. Even though I've been at this for over 20 years.
You and JP actually had a lil' gap at one point! Then things exploded.
RR!
The Cat 4 squad included Eloy, Bruce, David, and Adam. Everyone looked strong at different points, but flat tires, the windy day, and our uneven fitness due to the long winter made it difficult for us to work as closely as we have in the past. The pace varied from torrid attacks to super slow as racers were reluctant to commit to pulling in the wind.

In the end there were three substantial attacks. All which seemed to be initiated by Foundation. I was able to bridge to the first two attacks but was not close enough to do so with their third attack, which went after the last KOM and held to the finish. Eloy and I moved up in the last lap and I was able to get 4th in the field sprint which was good enough for 7th overall. If I read the results correctly I was able to snag the Masters jersey.

We should look to take advantage of Foundation's playbook: they attacked after the KOM and green jersey sprints usually accompanied by a waffles and six cycle rider. A good strategy would be to get a man into any attack after the sprints. Let's consider it for the next race. I will want to continue going after Master Jersey points.

I recordered the race and posted it to YouTube. One of the most amusing non-race observations was the Carl Hart rider who hit the same pothole at the bottom of the hill twice and kept grabbing his crotch during the race. I figured he was checking his junk, but later learned that he had ridden most of the race with a broken seat post.

The video doesn't seem to want to embed. Here is the link

I have to run if I am going to catch the group ride. I'll figure out how to embed video later...

Anytime you can snag a top 10, that is an excellent result. Congrats!

As I was discussing with Jeff White on today's group ride, there is real benefit to being able to see the complete results of a given race, namely it helps you broaden your view and makes it easier to analyze what may or may not have happened. It's also nice to see your name "in lights" even if it's just proof that you existed in the world.

  1. Despite Charlie saying that "there are 40 guys in front of you" every time we went past the start finish, It turns out the "winner" of my group got 28th place.

  2. 3 main groups on the road after the dust settled from the initial cross wind crisis. 9 guys in the front finishing from 1:41:12 to 1:41:39. Second group (the JP group) finished 1:44:02. Third group (the Bertucco/Snyder crew) 1:45:41
In other news, anyone know if we are getting a discount at KCC races this year? There was no "envelope line" as far as I could tell. #$40trainingparkraces?
