Highlights:
David stayed with Green Jersey while the guy kept jumping, and never let him get away. Nice job. Sucks about the flat. Phil got a flat, too.
Niall stayed on the front with Brendan and had a great race and made some incredible, hard efforts.
My part involved sitting on the front during the first KOM to dial the pace down while a two man break went up the hill for the points. I listened to Jim then and several other times I was on the front - nice to have you reading the race. I didn't even see the break toward the end of the race.
Eloy pushed me up the hill after I pulled off the front on one of the laps - what a difference that makes getting back up to speed!
Last lap, Aaron, Jim, Niall, drilled it on a leadout for Brendan. And Patrick was right up front as well. You guys went super fast and looked good.
Low point - riding behind Patrick who was wearing the KOM white shorts, while it was raining. Dude, your sexy was too distracting.
No real drafting happening today. When I found myself behind a wheel, I craned my head to the left or right like a dog sticking its head out the window, there was so much water. People were racing with tiny fenders beneath their saddles. I think this is now a thing.
Good teamwork all around. Congrats on the Yellow Jersey and Dots!

Absolutely awesome work Brendan, Patrick and all the 4 team that made it happen. It's great that you stepped up to the task of winning the yellow jersey. Props to Patrick for piloting the whole thing.

Here, here, @JohnMalcolmson. Congrats to everyone for the yellow and the dots. It sounds like the jersey competitions really gave the entire 4 squad wings, and you all had a great time working for that goal. Totally rad. Bike racing is pretty unforgiving sometimes, but then we get moments like this. Savor it!

Well done, everyone!
Today was interesting: flagging only those moves that contained threats. It was a little geeky to look at someone who was up the road, cross-reference them with the spreadsheet in my head, and decide to chase based on some math.
Poor Edickson Pena, who I eventually beat by a mere 3 points, was trying to get away the whole race but doing it all wrong. He would attack on the downhills or on the flats when he clearly had 3 of us on his wheel. I'm just not sure what he was thinking. Still, I respect the effort. He finished only one place behind me. Charlie pointed out that this year's yellow competition was especially close and thanked us for keeping it lively.
Special thanks to everyone for helping the yellow jersey happen. Particular shoutout to Niall for his epic effort on the final lap that reconnected us to a breakaway. There was one person (Hartmann) up the road who, had he taken first and I not taken something in the top 10, would have taken the yellow (math strikes again). I wasn't sure if there were less than 10 up the road, so we had to chase for the sake of certainty. And chase we did. Aaron, Jim, Niall, and others. The effort occurred right when we needed it.
Congratulations to Patrick on the dots. Looks like I set a Strava PR while assisting in its defense. Although I'm a little curious how Strava knows my heartrate considering I wasn't wearing a heartrate strap. Did they implant a chip?
Regrettably, no video from today. GoPro is not turning on lately. I suspect it needs a firmware update or something.
And now I will retire from bicycle racing. Go out on top! (kidding)

My race lasted 27 miles or an hour and five minutes. I suffered a rarely seen and highly dreaded, double tubular flattage. Not sure how long I was losing air...but both tires had about 40 psi in them when I pulled over at the start/finish. I jammed a can of Calfee Expresso sealant into the back tire and it sealed up and inflated promptly. Apologies to the Yang's who tried to top off my tire with some air and got sandblasted in the face with sealant for his efforts. I was cold and miserable...but the laughter that scene produced made me feel warm and happy. Riding in the 1/2/3 field with 40 psi requires a 306 watt weighted average according to my Stages power meter. (said meter survived the flooding and is working flawlessly) I will buy new tubular tires next season...for now the front is getting a can of sealant to finish the season. The new tubulars will be pre-treated with sealant to stop these little punctures from ruining a race. Oh and the aluminum tubulars wheels were great today...big brake track helped and the wheel bottomed pretty hard on the drain cover going up the hill (which is when I realized something was wrong with my tire). The aluminum wheel was unscathed but a carbon wheel might not have survived bottoming out.
Anywho...Konrad finished strong...I double phff'd and Andy got gapped off the back by a Wonderwheel guy who wouldn't work to close a gap. The Rapha guy was in full beast mode and solo'd in impressively from about lap 4. Great fun racing in the rain !
The cat IV's locked up some trophies. It was a long series. The strongest team with the swankiest riders won it this year.... I'm looking at you Patrick and Brendan...you guys were the Siegfried and Roy of the IV field this year !!!

I know this is a little belated but I wanted to give a belated kudos to all of the Cat 4 crew that have contributed to the defense of both the KOM and Yellow jerseys this year. Having both jersey’s is quite an accomplishment. You should be proud of yourselves.
On a more personal note I wanted to thank each of you for helping me defend the KOM jersey. It was a heck of a lot of fun to work together and I could not have done it without you guys. I am proud to have been able to keep the jersey for the team.
A few notes from this past Saturday’s race. First, it was surprisingly safe for such a rainy day. The newly painted lines leading up to the old finish line were super slippery (as Bruce found out first hand - luckily he managed to stay upright) yet we all made it on once piece. As Brendan mentioned, Pena made numerous attacks through the first half of the race. Kissena were all over him. He attacked on the uphill, the downhill, and even the new pavement. I suspect he was hoping that the field would be cautious in the rain and let him slip away. No dice. We lost David and Phillip to flats. That worried me.
The first KOM lead out had two heads: Ours and Shoy’s super-nice teammate Carlos. Soon it was Brendan and Shoy side to side with me on Niall’s wheel who was behind Brendan. I should have moved over to Shoy’s wheel because when he jumped I had to get around Niall whose diesel wasn’t ready for the surge. Brendan took Shoy at the line. Both of them have serious sprints. I had been away on vacation for the past month and didn’t have the jump I needed to close the gap.
Coming back to Niall, he did an awesome job of single handedly closing down on Hartman on two separate occasions. What a motor.
There were a whole bunch of L&C and Foundation dudes in the race and when a 6 man break went up the road they started blocking. We were happy to help as this negated Shoy’s chances of grabbing any more points on the second KOM. I marked him as the break was in sight as he looked like he might try to bridge. He seemed to sense that we would not let him go and he conceded the jersey allowing us to focus on the lead out for the finishing sprint.
Not having had to contest the second sprint gave me some energy to help with the second chase of Hartman. I faded back when Eloy popped up and lead me back up to the front of the pack as we hit the hill. I pulled in front of Brendan and lead him out past the remnants of the chase group. As we absorbed some remnants of the chase I kept the pressure hoping that Brendan was sheltered somewhere behind me. After the GAP turn the sprinters exploded behind me and I saw Brendan surge to take the filed sprint and keep the Yellow Jersey. That was pretty awesome.

regarding the april 4 L & C race if anyone is interested in handling the KOM duties please contact me off group. I did most last year and intend to handle the brunt of them this year but might want to race this sat instead and need a sub. It entails scoring the two KOMs per field (two fields) first - fourth place by race number and getting it right. Charlie writes you a check for $70 for your efforts. Obviously you cannot race that day.

This Saturday is the kick off of the L&C cup in Prospect Park. Teammates who have raced in the Cat 4s, know that Kissena has a long tradition of using these races to work together as a team to win Jerseys - not to mention to hang out at the coffee shop afterwards.
Newer members may not know that our team efforts have earned us multiple Sprint and KOM jerseys over the years. Last year strong teamwork helped ensure taking the Yellow jersey for the overall in addition to the KOM. That was pretty sweet. There is something really rewarding about working together as a team and having it all come together. Nowhere do we do this as well as during the L&C races.
What I have learned from having raced the L&C Cat 4 races is that the key to team victory is communication before and during the race and a willingness to work together for the good of the team. I would like to offer to be road captain like last year. I am open to sharing this role or taking a back seat if someone would prefer to take the lead, but if not, I look forward to getting us to work together.
If you have individual goals for the L&C cup this year, this is the forum to start expressing some of those dreams. I know we have some strong motors on the team but am not sure if we have any sprinters in the mix.
I'll kick things off in terms of personal goals: I don't plan on defending last year's KOM title, however, I'd like to go after the best Master's Jersey.
How about the rest of you?

Reg'd for the 4s. My goal this year is upgrade points, so that being the case, I have my eye on the finish. If that means Yellow, then I guess that's what I'm aiming for. Any help toward that goal would be amazing.

Just rode in Prospect this morning as workers were patching the road near the finish line. I saw the job they did and it is atrocious. It is unraceable in my opinion. At the very least, leave your carbon race wheels at home!
