L&C Cup
"Chris,
Sprint 1: 2nd place for 2 points
Sprint 2: 3rd place for 1 point
Anyway there were some little moves...then there was the move with Perlberg in it. Since I spent most of the race entombed in the womb....

I didn't see it or have the chutzpah to do anything about. With about 3 to go J.P. tried to do a burpee on his Caad 12...silly rabbit that's a crossfit thing. Yack's almost crashes into the back of him...but fear not as I likely would have face planted into that soft looking man bun of his...

bout this time Glenroy Griffith started chirping at me for what I've no idea. But it's not really a race unless that guy is pissed at me. Doesn't he know you are more aero with your PIE HOLE SHUT !!! So I gave him a few of these and went on my way...

Break almost got reeled but didn't. Lot's of yo-yo-ing and blocking. Near the old start finish a bunch of guys decided to get cozy with each other and stacked it. Bikes bounced left...Yacks veered right and the guy on my left eats carbon and goes down...Yacks gets back in line and waits for the hill, where surprisingly I stick to the back of the sprint group. As soon as I realized my good fortune the sprint started in earnest and I hold position but don't advance at all. So..a top 37 for me today.

My race came to a quick end on the second KOM lap. Two NYCC guys were talking to each other as we approached hill and one of them didn't see the cone Charlie had placed to mark a pothole. The guy hit the cone with his rear wheel -- right into my front wheel. I went down like on my right side and slid for what seemed like forever. As I slid on my hip, knee, elbow and shoulder I saw Sébastien break his fall on the second cone. Luckily he was okay.
My bibs and full finger gloves were shredded. Lost lots of skin on my knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow. My fingers also lost skin and hurt the most. After the race I felt stiff but lucky nothing was broken. Bike had a bent derailleur hanger. When I got home I noticed a huge hematoma on my elbow so headed over to urgent care.
They took X-rays and initially thought I had a broken finger. I was relieved to learn later in the day that they were mistaken and I will be able to hold my handlebars for the next few weeks. It's all a matter of perspective
I had a fun race. Not knowing how grinding up cols in France on a loaded tandem would translate to race fitness I went in without a ton of confidence.
Kieth rang the bell for the first KOM as we were shattering ourselves trying to get Jeff up the hill for the first sprint. I'm not sure many people heard it cause when we started up the hill on the next lap only the skinny Liberty kid jumped off the front. Since he'd been doing that every lap no one reacted. I was pretty sure I had heard Kieth's bell so I thought "screw it, I'm going". Worst case was that I bridged and we had a move. I took off and sure enough, as I round the bend I see Kieth writing down numbers. Took second for two points. Sweet.
The next KOM bell came just before three to go. I found the Liberty kid's wheel near the ball fields and stuck to it thinking that I could follow him up the hill and grab some more points. At the bottom of the hill the yellow jersey cranked it up and Liberty followed. I jumped but no way I could hold onto them. But I kept going and by the time I hit the KOM line I had a pretty decent gap on the field. Third place for another point. Unfortunately that gassed me enough that I couldn't make the bridge to the other two and got swallowed back into the group near the start/finish line (but not before mic dropping my water bottle).
Unfortunately I think I'm only going to make it to two more of the rest of the series so won't really be hunting for a placing this year.
didn't have super high hopes for yesterday, as I'd gone on a probably-too-long 80 mile jaunt the day before. spent much of the race finding and sticking on good wheels, mostly just saving energy for the sprint in the event there wasn't a break.
was feeling ok for a sprint and with 2 or 3 to go when the aforementioned cone took Patrick and me out - taking a look at strava we were doing around 24mph when we went down. luckily both bike and body were externally ok, save for a torn arm warmer and bent derailleur hanger. it seems that the entire right side of my torso took the brunt of the hit, because i am incredibly sore from my waist to my neck. hopefully a few days of rest will have me back by the weekend.
not sure what to make of this one. in hindsight, there isn't really anything i would or could have done differently, but this certainly has me thinking about the risk vs reward of park races, given that the road conditions aren't ideal in a handful of spots.
thanks Jeff and Eloy for stopping to make sure we were alright! all in all i'm glad it wasn't any worse, hope you're feeling better soon Patrick.

A huge thanks to Whitey and Eloy who pulled out of the race to check in on Sebastian and I
Rode up front for the entire race, which in hindsight was unnecessary and probably hurt my performance on the last climb. There was a two man breakaway that took off at race start and held until the last lap. Figured if I hung back to conserve energy and there was another breakaway, any chance of placing would be eliminated.
We ended up catching that 2 man breakaway just before the last climb.
The pack drifted right for each of the first four climbs and I was able to easily move up the left side. The last hill was different. Everyone bunched up to the left and within a few seconds, there were multiple times people almost crashed. One guy got up off the saddle and was making a break from deep in runner territory (not even close to the white line), someone even grabbed his wheel. a bunch of us were boxed in and right up against the line. kinda bummed me out seeing those two break the rules and ride so dangerously.
Things opened up for a second and I should have taken advantage. The guy who ended up winning was next to me and said “let’s go”. He got up off the saddle and maneuvered his way through the bullshit. I should have followed him.
I wasn’t aggressive enough when it counted and took 20th because if it.

I had wanted to finish in the top 5 on Sunday. guess I'll do that next weekend instead
:'(
EDIT: removed the gross intro. TMI.
Sounds like we need to go to the root cause of the cone problem...Any volunteers??Jeffrey White said:There is no excuse for hitting a cone on the SEVENTH LAP around a circuit. You can put one of those inflatable dancing people over the hole and some ass clown will still hit it.

As tough as it is to do - it's important to report riders in the joggers lane - especially ones who try and make a move from or through forbidden territory. Double tough to get a number during the last lap windup, but you gotta try.GregStreiff said:One guy got up off the saddle and was making a break from deep in runner territory (not even close to the white line), someone even grabbed his wheel. a bunch of us were boxed in and right up against the line. kinda bummed me out seeing those two break the rules and ride so dangerously.
When was the last time you pinned a number on for a Time Trial in Central Park? Ever wonder why?Jeffrey White said:Agree. Report joggers lane violators without mercy. It'll likely be one of them to hurt some kid and end Prospect Park racing for good.
