L&C Cup

In general, one person can't beat a whole field if they know who he is. We should key on him and have a strategy for him.

For green, I am tempted to ignore him unless he gets up the road with a Maglia Rosa rider. In that case, THAT NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. Other than that, folks looking to get into a break should just key off the kid.
I am also racing tomorrow, Charlie hooked it up. Will be my first CAT 4 race in the park. Been trying to jam fitness into my legs. will help out anyway I can. Perhaps early on I am most useful.

that was fun
So many disqualifications. The greatest disqualifications. The best
disqualification. Bigly
No points for me.  But I didn't get disqualified, so there's that.

A super fun race today.  The roads were wet, with 80% humidity at least, so like racing inside a bathtub.

With the first KOM, I jumped on the Dave Jordan train that started near the bottom of the downhill.  I was totally wrong about them today, they had their shit together and gave Dots a leadout all the way to the hill.  I sat on Dots' wheel as his two other teammates absolutely cranked through the park.  Half-way to the hill, two Foundation guys came up on our left.  I jumped from DJ to Foundation, and then back, trying to assess who was going first, but they stayed together.
At the hill, DJ pulled hard and then pulled out of the way.  Foundation, out of his saddle, hit a burst of speed.  I got out of my saddle and now I'm behind the junior(!) who came out of nowhere and was sitting on Dots' wheel.

Foundation takes first KOM by about 10 bike lengths, then Dots, Junior, and I rolled in 4th.

Second Kom shakes out similarly.  I'm on the right at the start of the downhill and Jim yells he's going to pull me up front.  I get out of the way and let him out, stay on his wheel (thanks very much, Jim! was hoping you'd be there), and then jump on yet another DJ leadout train, choo choo, chuga chuga.

A 4th DJ comes up on my right and tries inching me off Dots' wheel.  We split the wheel for a half mile.  It was a really good play on his part, impressive tactics.  But I didn't budge, happy to hold his hand as we rode together.

But now we're at the hill and we've got our big boy bib shorts on, so he drops off.

Foundation off the front at the bottom of the hill can't be caught (who is this guy?), then another racer (can't remember kit, possibly Echelon), Junior, Dots, me.  Dots doesn't get any points, and Junior rolls through 3rd place again.

I'll remember this race.  This is the first time I took both KOMs seriously and stayed on a leadout train to get there, regardless of how much it hurt.  My efforts weren't enough, but my tactics were sound.  This, plus being part of, and watching the efforts to help Jeff in the sprints turned it from hard laps around the park into a Race.

The Junior was super nice, didn't seem to be making too hard of an effort to stay on the front.  I rolled with him a bit, which was fun, and after the KOMs, rolled with Dad who was pacing on the back.  A very cool family event.

Coffee and Croissant and lots of teammates sealed the day.
Sweetness Bruce!

(also, Canada's "own the podium" seems to be paying off - https://www.pressreader.com/canada/canadian-cycling-magazine/20170315/283042644302545)
My favorite photo from Saturday. Hands down.

I'm registered for CAT 4 on Aug 5th. Will bring my A game.
In a previous life, I would photoshop your head on Kevin Costner's body and Whitey's on Whitney Houston's.

Protect Whitey's green jersey at all costs.  AT. All. Costs.

i'll be in the 4s. if we're doing Kevin and Whitney let's use the right scene:

who's got the after effects skills? i'll also volunteer (for the race. no after effects skills here...)
Whitey...Saturday is a BIG day...green jersey coming down to the wire...you are probably getting all nervous about it and understandably.  Let me put your mind at ease...I'm going to slap on the 50 mm carbon hoops and you are welcome to ride the Sling for big race...you can't possibly lose... you're welcome

be there in 4's as well
I'm in for the 1/2/3.

Yack?  Condon?  Rigby?  Donovan?

@Jeffrey White

Obviously, I can't be there.  Hoping you've got a deep squad for this.
I see only yourself, Greg S and Bruce V-S registered thus far.  Hoping you have at least four teammates, possibly more, for the sprints.  One should be positioned, if possible, as sweeper.

I'm in for the 1/2/3. I'm working registration so I can race for FREE. (Charlie had to help with registration during the last park race; kind of embarrassing. Will's working reg, too. We need at least one more!)
I'll help with reg, so I guess I'll be in the 4s. This will be my -(gulp)- first race of the year. I'm mostly in it for the coffee at the end. Someone please let me know what to do in order to not screw things up for Jeff. k thx.
i'll be there
I'm a game day...just having way too much fun riding the trails lately...haven't ridden skinny tires since the last Castelli race
You know the drill.

Another L&C race this Saturday in PP. Charlie needs registration volunteers. Please email him to let him know you can help with reg. Reg opens at 5. As always you get a credit to race for free.

Thanks!
game day decision
Let me know what I can do to assist re protecting the jersey. Is it as simple as making sure we take every sprint lap?
As long as I know when I need to go hard, I will make sure I have the energy to do it. Last time I wasn't sure, until Jim N led me up the hill. That was so money.
The only tactics I can think of are:

1. Sweeping my wheel in the sprints
2. Sprinting around James and taking his points (though I plan to be on his wheel)
3. Blocking for early moves that do not include James (so they eat points)

BUT, if something happens and James gives us an opportunity to attack him going into the sprint without him just sitting on us for a leadout, we should go for it. SO, on the sprint laps, get near the front and watch for opportunities.

got it. I'l need someone to point out James to me before race start.

got a bike fitting last night. Ilya made 2 significant tweaks and it honestly feels like a brand new bike. stoked to see what happens given the adjustments.
I once DNF'd because I destroyed myself on a lead out for Yacks's eventual series KOM win.  Was it necessary?  Probably not, the KCC train was like 6 deep that race, but I was super motivated to make sure he kept that jersey.
So much Yanghis Khan !!!!

I had no idea this was the case...I just figured with that silly hat on, you couldn't see and simply rode off the course...
Sorry to miss this guys. Give em hell.
its pretty shitty weather. is the race definitely on?
Race canceled at the line due to flooding in the chute. Next race is for all the marbles.
