Brian, we will never let you live this down.  :-)

^I slept through the Club Championships once. Missed the start by a 1/2 lap.

More importantly though... REPORTS!!!
I may live in Houston, but the past few weeks I've been back as a New Yorker.  Had a blast of a race today.  I hadn't been in a proper race since early July, and my two efforts of making it out to Floyd were absolute failures (flatted 1st lap and a rain out). Great to see everyone (Phil, John, Bruce, Eloy, and Jeff in the 4s; Greg and JP in the 1/2/3s; Yang for total support), @Jeffrey White , nice job on the series Green Jersey win and buying us all donuts!!

I wanted to do at three things today.  Bridge a break, get a break going, and get Jeff up front on the final lap.

Break bridge: 3rd lap (I think), four guys 150 - 200 yards ahead.  The guy leading the pack was grinding his gears at 40 rpm, I went off the front on my own and managed to get on the back of the group at the base of the hill.  Once I got there though, one of the guys started sprinting up the hill, the group broke apart, and I was slightly spent.

Break going: 5th lap (I think), I saw Seb and another break off the front at the beginning of the flats and I caught up to him, said let's go, and two or three others were behind me.  It seemed as if we had something going as we rotated through a round of pulls, but the pack eventually chased us down and we were swallowed a the light before the hill.

Final Lap:  I moved to the front with Jeff on the right side.  On the flats, there was a guy soloing about 100-150 yards.  Jeff said "Scott, go and bring him in" - or something like that - and I burned the rest of my remaining matches pulling the pack with me, and lost my gas he was 30 - 40 yards ahead.  He would ultimately be swallowed and give Jeff a chance to contest. I tried to hang on the back of the group but had nothing left and slow pedaled to the finish.

Next up, GMSR in 2 weeks and likely my final 2017 road race in Chappell Hill, TX the following weekend (https://www.usacycling.org/register/2017-2527) before I take a break for a bit.
I missed an L & C race start warming up on rollers in the rink parking lot...while in the green jersey...shit happens
I was emotionally invested because Jeff promised doughnuts with his winnings and was not disappointed. Congrats Jeff and the 2017 cat 4 crew!

The green jersey was a mathematical lock despite some dubious peloton rumors that sprints were double points this week. Out of an abundance of caution I took the second sprint.

I found myself in a couple of small break attempts, but nothing stuck and nothing cost too much. I thought I was in good shape for the finale, too. As Scott mentioned, a guy got away on the top of the downhill and made himself a pretty surprising gap by the Temple, so I asked him to "get the chase started," which he did. He got the guy within spitting distance by the zoo and so neutralized him. Perfect!

The uphill went really hard and I was able to maintain good position. I thought I had a really good spot on some Verrazano dude's wheel (he was really in the perfect position to sprint) but he inexplicably stopped pedaling with like 300 to go. I had to start sprinting and got myself up to Sebastian's wheel only for him to almost get killed by the extremely risky behavior of one of those "Team Rapha" guys who basically just pay money to Rapha and buy kit. That was it; my sprint did not pan out.

The donuts were a complete success, however.

Thanks to all who helped in ways large and small. I couldn't have done it without the team!
@Jeffrey White behind @SebastianVidal wheel when rapha dude almost killed them...

The time Christian turned up to FBF with no shoes, raced in sneakers. Racer's nightmare.

Not part of a series, but I just saw this on bikereg. @Brian Miele you have one more chance.. lol
@Phil Maronilla I take this as a sign from the gods, when all was lost, another race opportunity emerges from the ashes, offering me a chance at vindication and dare I say, a chance at victory...
does anyone know off-hand if the same scam deal applies where we can race for free if we volunteer for the Kissena Classic?
not sure about the scam part. you'll have to please explain what you meant by that.

otherwise, yes, if you volunteer, you'll race for free.
I meant that it is a great deal
*** Cross posted from Volunteer at Kissena Races Thread ***

It's that time of year again! Our first two Prospect park races are this Sunday (L&C Cup March 25th) and next Saturday (Castelli on March 31st).

Charlie's races are run through Kissena Club race license and member participation in running registration is an important part of helping the races run smoothly.

Anyone who helps with registration gets to race for free at this or a future race. There is also a need for a marshal patroller who gets to race free in future plus $40.

Charlie has changed the sign up procedure. Sign up to register with this google doc. If you sign up please make sure you complete your shift.

Thanks!

Patrick

Sorry lads...registration is now full.  I missed it.  But that's ok...I'll go ride my cross bike on some gnarly trails fo free
Damnit so did I!  Never going to wait until the last minute again. I'm bummed. Sorry JP.
Lining up in the 4s Sunday in prospect Park
Oof... I forgot to register for the Cat 4 before pre-reg closed. I'll be there if I can get a spot at registration Sunday morning.

Volunteer and help out at registration. Not only will you get to race, but you'll race for free.
truth be told Yacks doesn't get all smitten with racing till I can show off my beautifully shaved legs
I'll be there in the 4s - signed up for reg so racing for free!

Other 4s, there are still about 30 spots. If you think you're lacking fitness, come help with reg and then get in 11 free training laps.
Given my race bike game is MIA, I am going to coordinate marshals for Charlie Sunday. You’ll see me riding the course - probably with an orange vest
Signed up to volunteer at registration and hoping I can jump in the 4 race.
I’m in with the 4’s
