@Brendon, I second that. Congrats!
Nice work B, the crosswalk is exactly the right place to launch.
Gotta thank Foundation for pulling back Mr-T-T.

Thanks for vid @Brendan.  Racing now is so much more fulfilling!

Also you are like a locomotive when you chase people down!  holy cow...
Who needs the tour?  I could watch this video all day....
Cross posting here re: New Member Ride:

So far I've only heard from or about six people:

Sean Hill
Ingrid Spielman
Javier Andres Lee
Dale Suttle
nelson martins
Joshua Edwards

There were definitely more than six people out there - who are we missing?
Haha Nelson Martins!!! Nice. Also thanks Aly for grabbing those sprint points.
de nada, wasn't quite intentional- was in the break but I made it a point to cross the finish line in pole position.
Regarding Ryan's comment above, the 1/2/3 yesterday was pretty fast.  The winner, Mike Margarite, soloed for the win in 1:37:38.  He was 10s ahead of the chase and 1:30 ahead of my group, which still finished in a brisk 1:39:09.  I was 19th.  But that's getting ahead.

We had: Stokes, Hubbs, Rene, Myles, Joe M, Ryan, Joaquin, and myself.  Ragot was absent I think, due to Owens' crash.  I tried a new plan for getting ot the race.  wake up, get dressed, and eat breakfast on the ride to the race.  Not sure if it worked well.  I'm feeling it didn't because I barely remember seeing Joaquin and almost thought I saw ragot in the race.  Sorry guys, wasn't the best accounting.

The field was 100+.

Still, we wanted to get KoM points for Ryan.  Rene and Ryan and Myles seemed active early (did I mention I felt out of it), and going for the first KoM, Ryan was killing it on a long attack.  Stalin was nowhere, so I was happy to help let him get the gap.  And when a few jumped across, to him, I thought Ryan could handle them.  He has a story about it and should tell it.

The race smelled of a breakaway.  The field was splitting repeatedly and coming back together slowly.  Being attentive on a day like this is huge; if you're sitting mid-pack conserving, you could be out of hte race and not realize it until too late.

Moments after the KoM is typically a good time to attack.  I was ready for this and saw people going.  So I went. I don't remember if it was 7 or 8 laps remaining, but when the moment is there, it has to be taken.  I had a small group, maybe four--me, Jermaine Burrowes, Gorgy Popstefanov, and one other guy I think, and we're working pretty hard to make it happen.  On the flats just after the temple, Gorgy looks back and says, "we're going to get caught" and sits up.  Jermaine yells at him and keeps on going.  Since Kissena has a good group behind, I figure I might as well keep riding.  And when we get to finish the lap, we have a group, and a gap.

Unfortunately, it's the last lap of the 5 race, and we're slowed by the moto marshal.  I figure this is the end of our break, and we're taking it pretty easy, but we stay close to the marshal and don't get caught.  And when that race finishes, we rush up the hill.

In it is: Jermaine, Gorgy, Jermaine's teammate Sydney, Dave of Van Dessel, Tony Taylor, Karl of Stans, Juan of Mengoni, Marloe of Mecalfab, and Marcello of DNK.  ten in total.  Everyone gets something.  Weird thing is that we're not exactly killing it.  We're doing a paceline, but long pulls and a long line rather than short pulls and a rotation.  I was kind of amazed we got the lead we did, but we did have good representation across teams.  I wasn't going to argue because it seemed to be working--I guess this makes it harder for someone to skip pulls.

For the first points sprint, we went through it in a paceline.  For the second KoM, the Mengoni drilled it.  I thought he was just trying to set a tempo.  When I tried to roll past, he picked up the pace.  I didn't want to do a full sprint, as the break was more important, so I got second.

As we were heading for the second sprint, Jermaine starts yelling that people are coming.  The Mecalfab guy just rolls off on the downhill.  We catch him, but he does it again before the second sprint.  Not wanting to let points go, I pick up the pace (don't want to look like I'm sprinting) and roll through for second.

And then the chase sprints by us just as we get to the hill.  Kind of amazed that Tony, Jermaine, and Gorgy got on, the group came by us fast.  It was aggravation for me, as it was the third or fourth time this year the winning move has rocketed by me when I was up the road at the foot of the hill.

That move had to have been ballistic--seems like they closed over 30 seconds in a lap, and we weren't riding a slow lap.  They probably did a 7 minute lap of Prospect to catch us.

Over the hill, and the break was still close, like ten seconds or less.  They're not leaving us just yet.  I try to cross, but Jermaine's teammate and Brian Breach's teammate want to muck it up.  And the guy from DNK hauls himself to the front just to get in the way.

Seven up the road.

A mile of mucking and the break is gone for good.   We're told at the bell that there's one place remaining, and some more chasers catch on.  I try to thin the group a few times, but I'm not getting any help.  so I rest up to find I didn't have anything for the sprint.

Sorry I couldn't make more of the opportunity.  Thanks to those behind.  Seems like Myles and Joe crashed out.  Hope it was only their pride that got damaged.
The story of my race is one of "I need more experience" because despite being on a very good day, I had two major screw ups. On lap 3 I decided I was going to try a bold move and attack early, in anticipation of a KOM bell on the hill. I can't even remember for sure where I launched - I think I countered something a little before the hill started. But the gamble worked - when I came past Keith, sure enough, he rang the bell.

This was really the first time I've thrown down an attack on the 123 field. I've followed lots of moves, but I haven't yet been the aggressor. I was then solo for a minute or two, dying, when Mik Margarite (who would later solo FTW) bridged up. We drilled it. I broke a bunch of power records during this move.

As JP said, a group of 4 (I think?) bridged up. One of my problems is that I'm still figuring out who people are in the 123 field. The group that bridged looked chug-a-luggy and I didn't think they were KOM players. They looked like guys I should be able to smash up the hill. But, I had some serious suffering going on.

Still, I drilled it up the hill because I was so psyched to have made such a ballsy move, and it was about to pay off. About halfway up Margarite told me I was going too fast, I was killing everyone, and to slow down so I didn't ruin the break. I explained I wanted the points. He instructed the group to let me take them. I looked back, there seemed to be general agreement. I backed off for ten pedal strokes or so, then two chug a lugs who refused to do a single pull from the bathrooms to the top of the hill (Mike and I did all the work) sprinted by me. I said something that probably won't make me any friends.

In retrospect, it was my own fault. I should have made triple sure that everyone was on the same page and if I didn't have total clear agreement, I should have said no deal. Oh well.

Then, pissed off, I got stupider. On the second KOM lap, I didn't know there was a break up the road. I was near the front. Stalin was there, jockeying for position. Everyone was going slow and looking at each other. It felt like a normal nervy KOM lap. So, I ended up going like a rocket from the bottom, thinking I'd finally crushed one and taken 3 points... but actually I had nothing, because the break had eaten them up, and I didn't know that until I saw the results today. I'm usually a bit more race savvy than that - I don't know why I didn't know there was a break up the road. I think the neutralization might have confused me.

Anyway, I spent the last few laps feeling fairly satisfied about the 3 KOM points I actually didn't get. I rode tempo on the front while JP was up the road and made sure to finish safely.

Thanks again to all who have supported my short stint competing for the polka dots. It's really cool. I'm sorry I couldn't bring them home and that part of the reason for that was me being dumb. But the truth is, I really don't care about them too much. I have to miss the last two races, and they were never a goal to begin with, I just got them by being in the right moves. So I'm not the least bit bummed to have lost out.

Maybe next year I'll go for them for real, when I'm a little older and wiser!

@mugwump, it wasn't your breakfast:  I worked until well past 1 am the night before and had another long day of work ahead of me, so elected to sleep rather than race.  I was pretty bummed about it.  On the other hand, the fact that you *barely* remember seeing me indicates that maybe there is something funky about your breakfast after all.

"I got stupider"....even I cant work with that.

I was wondering where joaquim was. Apparently having tea and crumpets at jps
MMMMmmm, crumpets.  Myles, you end up in a crash?  Everything okay?
Yes. Went full stop to spare al baroughs spindly calf as he decided to
sprawl out on the asphalt coming into the first kom.

At the beginning of the finishing straight.

How he self crashed ll never know. I had company, gentleman joe mueller,
who decided to stop and make sure I was ok as I had stopped to m
@Brendan that video is fucking awesome.
thanks. i plan on watching them when i do rollers. better than tv...

imagine if all the tour riders had gopros! THAT would be awesome
the video captures for me a standout moment of the race: whitey berating a guy for questionable behavior.  it was scary, and i wasn't the one being told off.

i hereby declare jeff the boss of the peloton -- kissena's hinault.
thanks. i plan on watching them when i do rollers. better than tv...

imagine if all the tour riders had gopros! THAT would be awesome
I'm awestruck by the amount of game film we watch.

33:30 KOM launch #1 INCLUDING EPIC BATTLE CRY! this is a must-hear affair! 33:36 is everyone’s new ringtone. yaks’ victory yell: the new Wilhelm scream?\

@Brendan I have to confess that the battle cry is actually me.  The 5s were done, so I wandered up the hill to spectate.

I took a 30s video, too.  I didn't put up because typically while filming you keep the subjects of your video somewhere in the frame, and apparently I couldn't be bothered.

But since you love it so much: http://youtu.be/55X6Z2lbpIw
THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.
hahaha alex that is lovely. it sounds much better up close.  well done.  thanks for the cheering
Oh my god....I just lol'd my bibs off....You know Yacks doesn't call out his own name during a sprint.  Yacks saves that for the bedroom during sexy time...this message was brought to you by Y A C K S !!!!!!!!
Maybe Yacks should start calling out his own name during a sprint.

strangely enough this thread brought this to mind
(Mostly safe for work)

Rigby start working on a "how not to sprint version"
Listen closely at :15 - there's another scream in there, before my yeti yell.  i think that's Yacks, with a scream in his heart yearning to break free.

As he goes up the hill, he whispers...

"Yacksbud...."
Thats french..."more croissants"

It was only a matter of time until Myles discovered that Kissena has a forum. After Keith finally got wise a few weeks ago, Myles must have figured out he was the only one talking on the Yahoo Group we officially abandoned in 2009.

His 100% NSFW video was admittedly of ample quality, but the only thing that made me LOL was, "Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia." I don't know what the hell that means, but it was somehow syntactically/semantically funny.

Myles will soon become accustomed to everyone talking about him in the third person here.
Its totally safe for work. Well..the places I've worked anyway.

Anyway im just hoping the next time yacks goes for a kom he yells "gangnam style" with his eyes shut
And as if you should talk.....remember in a few weeks you'll be working from home, clad only in a purple striped bathrobe with 17 cats. Your skin pale, and muscles emaciated, more so than now, you'll stop riding and begin compulsively brushing your teeth, a modern day syd Barrett. Yacks will ask, in between ring dings and cat4 accolades "where is whitey?", and we will all just reply, "homey don't play tthat" and walk away, leaving him with his groupies, playing with his long flowing hair. Then your name too shall appear here in third person, and Keith will tell stories and point to shadowy men bouncing yoga balls in solitude on walks in prospect park. God bless slow weeks at work
