I have registered....
I missed reg by 12 minutes. I may or may not try for day-of. I've grown to meh PP races.
Wait....they have races at other venues?
We’ve got a strong team registered for Saturday:

Looking at this line up may raise concerns that we may have an unsporting advantage. If you are on the fence about participating I ask you to do two things: 1) commit to leading out Rigby. Over the past several years, Kissena has routinely had one of the largest representations in the L&C cup races yet we have rarely (perhaps never?) successfully lead out a sprinter for a win. Even if 6 guys commit to it, you know only 4 will be in the right place at the right time. Let’s make this happen. 2) Enter the the race and evaluate your participation as the race unfolds. If we get a nasty rash of flats like a few weeks ago your teammates will be appreciating your participation.

To review, our primary goals are to:
  1. get our racers into breaks
  2. defend the KOM
  3. successfully lead out Rigby for the finish
As discussed earlier this week this is a good opportunity to get into breaks. Let’s all take stabs at it. Following the green or KOM sprints is a good time to attack. I didn’t get far last time, but if I still have the legs, I will be willing to give it my all to help a Mark I or any other teammate to establish a break immediately following the second KOM sprint. If everyone shows up we can even take stabs on some green jersey points. If you are interested, make yourself known.

Once again I have assigned roles with the expectation that as many as the racers listed who can help will do so. Be ready to be flexible. During the last race we had a strong lead out for the first KOM and none whatsoever for the second. Being attentive and communicating with teammates will help us work collaboratively at critical points. Note that David, Wes and Brendan are only listed for the finishing sprint in order to help keep their legs fresh, but they should feel free to participate as they see fit.

First Half:
Cover breaks: Harry, Bruce, Jeff, Phil, Jim

KOM lead out: Mark, Dan, Thierry, Tim

Second half:
Cover breaks second half of race: Thierry, Tim, Dan, Mark

KOM lead out: Mark I, Jim, Harry, Jeff, Phil

Lead out Rigby for final sprint: Bruce, David, Wes, Dan, Patrick, and anyone with legs

Notes on the finishing lead out:
I nominate David to organize Rigby’s train. Everyone position yourself in front of him on the right side on the downhill. We don’t need to stay to the right once the train gets going, just before the temple so that we can form the train.  Listen to David's commands of “steady”, “go”, “pull off”, and maybe even “slow down” to keep the train together. Last time we started too early given the number of riders available in the train. It is okay for us to wait longer to ramp up the speed. This time we should also have a larger train. Don’t forget that  having someone sweep Rigbys wheel would also be helpful.

Looking forward to a fun race Saturday!
I'll poke around the first half then try to sweep at the end.

Some thoughts re a train-
1. We've never practiced this
2. Rigby is strong enough and smart enough to successfully freelance a sprint

We might have more success just throwing some flyers off the front and letting other people tire themselves out closing the gaps. Everyone is so jumpy by then that they're bound to chase anything down. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows.

*Not saying I'm not down to help. I just don't want our train attempt to become someone elses lead out

I'll be there with a new kit and different bike ( cross bike sold and the van Dessel road bike is in the shop) look for me in a yellow kit with a euro red road bike. Should be fun out there gents!

KCC is fielding a strong group of racers in what looks to be a pretty stacked and full 1/2/3 field. And while I feel like someone who is definitely racing (and I'm likely a DNS) should take the reigns and get the discussion going, it's Friday morning and crickets...

So let me try and get the conversation started anyway.

Here's the KCC 1/2/3 start list:

Jules Roazen Brooklyn NY 5/05/14
Ryan Johnston Brooklyn NY
Kissena Cycling Club
5/07/14
Michael Perlberg Brooklyn NY
Kissena Cycling Club
5/07/14
Andrew Da Silva Brooklyn NY
Kissena Cycling Club
5/08/14
Vlad Preoteasa Brooklyn NY 5/04/14
Chris 1.21 gigawatts Yack malverne NY 5/08/14
David Stokes New York NY 5/07/14
J.P. Partland New York NY 5/06/14
Eric Ragot Brooklyn NY 5/06/14
Dusan Strika Parlin NJ
Kissena Cycling Team

To discuss:
  • Team objective
  • Roll assignment (everyone can't do everything)
    • Road captain
    • Strikers (early/mid/late race)
    • Defenders (early/mid/late race)
    • "Protected" (this doesn't mean guys who can sit back and take a free ride--as a team we're not that strong--but these are the guys who have a realistic shot at a top 10 and shouldn't have to respond to the Dioslaki race-opening attack, for example...they should however be ready for the counter!)
  • Expectation setting
  • Team plan
    • Opening gambit
    • Middle Madness
    • End game
  • The "Garrigan Factor"
I'm just going to ask garrigan when he plans to win the race and go with him at that point.

Good luck to the rest of you.
I'll have attacked beforehand so I'll be waiting to be picked up by the Garrigan-Perlberg Express Train.
I'm am going to guess that Ryan is a no show given the stork visited him last night.
We'll be racing with a bunch of guys that just got back from Speedweek. Look out for Evan Murphy and just about anyone from Champ-Sys in the break. This is going to be another fast one.
Haha, don't worry about me gents. I don't wanna snuff out your ride. Looks like JP has a real shot at keeping the silver jersey if the cookie crumbles properly. I'll be fix'n to be one of the more active yellow jersey wearers there has been after the 2nd lap.
In all seriousness, this is a big, fast field.  98 listed starters (Garrigan isn't on there), so we can assume this will go to 110.

Champ-Sys has four guys who are strong, Mengoni has a full team, Evan Murphy is riding well, Dioslaki is present.  We've got attackers, too.  About the only teams that would want a field sprint are Jordan, Lupus, and United.  Even then, Jordan is probably looking for the break with Stalin, Franklin, or Tony, as is Jermaine of United.  Only Lupus, with Savory and Vasquez, and one horse in Jamison, wants it together.

We do have to be on from the start.  The right combination will take it, probably from a long way out.
Why do I feel like I'm about to land on a beach in Normandy?

@Mike G., consider getting to the race on the extra early side. On the one hand there probably aren't too many people who want to race who haven't pre-registered. (And it's looking like rain is a real possibility) On the other hand Charlie is pretty strict when it comes to field limits, etc.

I'll poke around the first half then try to sweep at the end.

Getting a few rabbits to go early might not be a bad idea.  The race leaders are either unattached or have very little team mates.  This means that they are going to be freelancing as they've done in the last 2 races and will be twitchy.  We should still try to have at least 2 guys with Brendan at the end.

Full disclosure: My fitness is on the downswing so I will be hiding as much as possible until the end.
For the 4s, I think we should control the pace even right before the chute. Not necessarily lead out fast however.
I am also not in shape and probably won't be able to help much.  Plus, considering our numbers, incognito time may rear it's Fredly head again.  Although, rain will keep a decent lot home.

yup - I honestly don't think we need much more planing than that.

Early help just so we have representation in every early move is very much appreciated.

If it looks like a sprint towards the end and you are ready to sprint, find me, Eric, or JP and let it be known and we'll do what we can do.
My participation is merely experimental,i'm just looking to see if i can finish
Depending on the weather tomorrow, I might day of reg for the 4's. willing to chase down whatever and keep those gaps closed.

@Wes if one of your concerns is that the KCC sprint train, then wash those worries away! There are three easy steps to neutralize those bad odors.

  1. Get to the front.
  2. Look around and make eye contact with your guy.
  3. Get on the front and ride hard.

You don't worry if someone else jumps on your wheel, once you've made eye contact and are in near proximity and understanding with your sprinter, it is the sprinter's responsibility to get to where he needs to be to take advantage of your work.

I am happy to be working for Brendan and Patrick in leadouts for this race.

Brendan I am going to be your shadow for most of the race. We should be tailgunning this entire race until the last lap. You should not be anywhere near the front of the race (nose out of the wind), except for the last 50-100 yards of the race. Be prepared to have me yelling at you to get behind somebody or even stay on my wheel.

After watching your race video from april 19th, we're going to make this next one SUPER boring. it should be 99.5% wide angle ass shots, and 0.5% wide open road.
Gonna be a good one!

Awesome. But what happens if Garrigan is up the road with no Kissenas in tow. What does the team do?

we try to get in a chase group.

If I'm up the road without any kissena I'd vote for you guys to do whatever is best for JP. I'm out to have fun and you guys should do the same whatever that means at the time. Giver !! Or maybe I don't really "get" road racing? The next one on the 18th is my last one so if I was you guys I'd try to keep up with the points for the overall as it looks like a long summer of races!
@Garrigan - I like how the top portion of your POC helmet has faded to match the yellow L&C leader's jersey. Almost as if you planned it.
