It is the the part of the Livestrong empire that *isn't* paying for the private jet, because jets = awareness.
Livestrong.com and LIvestrong.org are two completely different entities

.org is the non-profit

.com is a health/wellness media site that also offers several self-improvement programs (weight/smoking cessation/exercise). they license the "livestrong" from the non-profit, but there's no other connection

(i saw the editor in chief speak recently)
I want to add a digital scale to the weight loss help. The big thing with digital vs. analogue is that with a digital, you can't fool yourself by believing that when you're between X0 and X5 taht you're closer to zero. I like the consistency of digital readouts and that you can't fudge yourself into thinking you're another weight.

I do not like the accuracy of digital scales. I got one that is supposed to measure hydration and body fat percentages, but the measurements come with huge caveats. First, hydration. The algorithm Tanita uses to measure the little charge they run through your body makes certain assumptions about when you're getting on the scale. It is likely not accurate for hydration if you get on it first thing in the morning, but it is more likely accurate if you've been vertical for several hours. I've been bursting and I still can't get my scale to read over 59% percent when I wake up, but can get to 65% during the day.

Tanita's algorithm for body fat is similarly suspect. First, they make a point of stating that certain scales are better for athletes. I asked them about this and it has to do with the way they tweak the algorithm. Second, the algorithm is dependent on hydration. If you're dehydrated, which it could seem first thing in the morning, the measurement will be less accurate.

I use the hydration and body fat measures as relative values; they're only valuable insofar as they compare to other readings at the same time.

And the only way measuring yourself works is if you do it at teh same time every day/otherday/week.

Here's a long explanation of livestrong.org vs. .com. http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/athletes/lance-armstrong/Its-Not-About-the-Lab-Rats.html?page=all I despise the .com not only for the tenuous connection but because it is a content mill that pays sweatshop wages to and takes all rights from freelancers. And even .org has their misleading efforts.

Just because you are bursting first thing in the morning does not mean that you are hydrated. Bursting means that your bladder is full. Hydrated means that your tissues are full. I would argue that first thing in the morning you may be somewhat dehydrated because your tissues have had all night to drain.
David,
Good point. Still remains is that the Tanita people told me that the hydration numbers are likely off first thing in the morning.
The new digital scales are very accurate for weight; the body fat measurements aren't accurate at all in my experience.

Double so for atheletes
Broke 180lbs over the weekend, was 178.5 on Saturday morning and 179 this morning. 8 lbs in 5 weeks, woot woot.

Im laughing so hard right now, also one of my favorite Ben Stiller movies.
that clip cut out my favorite part, when the two models, upon understanding what Bulimia is, laugh it off and say that they do that all that time/it's a great way to lose weight before a big show
I just began reading some of this guy's articles. Fat loss geekery at its finest.

I'm getting a shake from bareburger now. Does that help?

No way, the pain and suffering I would go through a few hours after consumption are not worth the deliciousness that is a milkshake.
Lactose intolerant too? I just fart. Not so bad tonight at all...
For the most part yes, I can handle cheese, and yogurt, but beyond that, things like whole milk, and ice cream are not my friends.
I don't know what brides or grooms do at weddings, but I've taken to carrying energy bars in my suit pocket when I go to hitching affairs. Snacking through delayed services makes it easier not to tackling the first person I see carrying a tray.
that's so raven!
@ Wump That is a really, really good idea. Was at a talk this evening and I was seriously contemplating eating my left foot...
And that's your best foot. Dang.

This is a good article. I think ending the meal with something small and sweet is a great way to curb any post meal cravings.

I was 177.5lbs this morning, so down another 1.5lbs. The hardest thing for me was french fries and soda as well, but now I don't miss them at all. Our food expenses have gone up a bit. Last night for example I spent $15 on berries, and $10 on walnuts and almonds at the market, where normally a bag of chips and pretzels would have run me $7, but the tradeoff is well worth the cost.

Committing to the lifestyle change and cutting down on portions has been the key, for example yesterday's lunch was a chicken breast and a small side of fruit, and dinner was grilled london broil over a green salad, with fresh vegetables.
the path to change is littered with expensive nuts and berries
and therefore, squirrels
in which case, i will be hiding in a blind about 20 feet away from the path to change
You are one weird dude, dude.
I'd like to thank god, my mother, and my sponsors at Rudy Project for making this kill possible.
