I'm email Horace right now. He say I wear the Jersey tomorrow because I placed higher in the last race.

He didn't say what happens if we both finish out of the points tomorrow.
^ let's not count on that . . . mike has more first place finishes, but i believe graham has more "in the points" placings

either way - let's go out in style and get mike some points tomorrow

two thursdays ago was text-book: send a small break up the road with a kissena then help mike sprint into some points
errr, I"m not getting a very clear answer here:

That means I would have to go back and see who had the highest placing throughout the series, but I don't think you have to worry you have a strong team to help you. Thanks for racing.

Best wishes Horace Burrowes.

Horace,

Thanks! Not to be a bother but one more question:

What if we both finish out of the points (top 10) on the last race? I still win?

let's keep it simple and help you beat graham and place
It's a plan. I did ask him if he means more wins overall (me) or more times in the points (Graham) and haven't gotten a reply yet. But yet, let's just do the same thing.

My feeling is that Graham doesn't want to go heads up in a sprint against me so he will work to get a break together.

Mike
i feel bad for him already
I'm in. I haven't been part of this Thursday crew...I'll need someone to assign me a few potential tasks, but I'm down for whatever.

Can we get a roll call? So far I see:
Tito
WDC
Mike
Bill
Rich
White (maybe)
Jeff-O
Ian

Anyone else?
baby jesus
Uh, obvs. Baby JC is always on the squad.
Wojciech and John?

Maybe the Quicksilver Kevin Bacon?
I'd prefer the Footloose Kevin Bacon.

"Jump back!"

+1 for me. I think with the numbers we have we can play it a bit more aggressive no? Lets win with some dignity people!

(:
I'm in today since I could get day off. Though it's my first cat4 race, I'll try my best.
So before the race - lets make sure that every Kissena (whether they are active on this forum and 'team' riders or not) know who Graham is and are clear on the real goal for the evening.

Also is anyone driving to the race this evening ? ... Mike should have a CAAD10 that requires transportation.
Man, I wish I could be there with you guys. I haven't gotten to crush someone's hopes and dreams into oblivion with baby Jesus at my side since the crusades. Ah, the memories...

Have fun out there. This race could be epic if Graham is riding with Baby Lucifer

Patrick
Joji's been doing workouts with the morning crew. He's strong and an asset to the 4 squad.

Looking forward to the antics tonight. Who wants to meet up at 6p at GAP for the ride down?
Proposal:

Sticking on Graham's wheel and never letting go:

Tito (you up for this tito?)
Jeff-O

Following early moves (first 1/3 of the race), taking turns:

Joji
Rich
Bill

Following moves in the middle:

Ian
Wojciech

Launcing Late attacks a-la Ryan Johnston

WDC
White

Saving for the sprint:
John M. (my one man locomotive)
Carl (sit on Graham's wheel - make sure you get around him)
Mike (duh! winning!)

A couple things to keep in mind:

1) If you get in a break with a Setanta rider - you do not work. Just sit in.

2) If you get in a break with Graham and not me - you slow it down and screw it up. You save all your energy and don't let him get away.

3) Stay in the top 15-20 at all times.

4) If Graham is in attack mode and he slides back after an unsuccessful attack (as someone was describing above) look for a counter attack with me.

5) anytime you see me off the front (if it happens) you block block block block

6) If it is all together with a few laps to go, we all start moving to the front and getting organized. Anyone who has any ounce of energy left should be hammering it on the front keeping the pace extra high.

7) Whoever is on my wheel in the sprint : you let the gap open
I like a plan and I'm cool with my role.. Just a question about #1. What is wrong with working with a Setanta rider ? So long as it is not Graham it doesn't matter if they are in a successful break. Or am I missing something ?
@ Ian - it's a good question. Ideally we want to force Graham into the wind and make him and his team work.

7) Whoever is on my wheel in the sprint : you let the gap open
If you haven't done this before, it's fun and infuriating. Fast Freddy Rodriguez was not only a great sprinter, but a great leadout and sweeper man too. I managed to piss off an unsuspecting rider on a big time New England team as I let a nice gap open up in the Harlem crit as JP charged off the front. To quote Han Solo:

"Keep your distance... but don't look like you're keeping your distance. I don't know, fly casual."

What I'm saying is that if you are on a teammates wheel, who is already going hard, or attacking, it doesn't take much, and shouldn't, to let that gap open up. Just a fraction fewer watts and the gap will expand magically in front of you. Of course, you don't want to let off the gas so dramatically, that they realize what's going on right away.

That's what happened in Harlem. We were already going hard and fast and all I had to do was not push as hard through the turn and JP's group was gone. It wasn't until 1/2 down the next straightaway that the guys behind figured out what was going on (because their heads were down already going pretty hard, not paying attention to the front), and they had that much more distance to make up.

So, "fly casual" gents.

To expand on what Mike is saying. If one of Graham's teammate's is in the wind all night trying to keep your break away, then if the break gets caught, then that might be one less Setanta rider with fresh legs to work for Graham in the next move, or sprint or whenever. Now if it becomes clear that your break is going to stay clear until the end of the race, then you might choose to take some pulls.

But...when riding for a sole leader, and you get in a winning break, your job is now to take the win. And can you win if you are trading pulls with your breakaway companions? Maybe yes, maybe no.

A few years ago, I was in the winning break at PP with Mengoni's Jason Bremer. He was strong and a good team rider. But he absolutely refused to take a single pull because the team's sprinter, Pollo, was back in the field. We had the legs to stay away--despite his sitting on--and on the last lap, he attacked hard up the hill and stayed away for the win. It was frustrating, but I understood what was happening. And at the time, I had a decision to make. With one guy sitting on like that, do I work or sit on too? I like my odds better away from the pack even if I knew Bremer was going to blow our doors off late in the race. And so I worked.
Are we able to get someone on preme-getting duty or do we lack the #'s?

Another question, should we chase down breaks that don't have mike in them? I doubt setanta will be willing to do any chasing

Q1) primes are not important, though getting into breaks before/after the primes are

Q2) our goal should be to have a man in all real breaks, thereby taking the pressure off our team to chase. if that break includes Setanta riders, you DO NOT WORK, and unless it looks VERY promising and is SMALL, don't do much work either way.
Sounds good.
- Predicting 10-12mph from West which means head or sidewind (from left) into the finish. If it's a bunch sprint my feeling is we need 5 guys stomping on it (maybe rotating as we did in PP last week) from 1km (end of back straight). Order something like: Jeff, Rich, Woj, Ian , me, Mike and WDC tailgunner?

- There will be other teams conserving and attacking late, how are we handling that? Are we shutting everything down or letting stuff go? Negative is it leaves us vulnerable to a bridge by Graham, which he has demonstrated is one of his favorite moves. But also means we'll have a s-ton of work to do.

- MY sense is the marauders who are covering different parts of race need to be top 5-10 to cover. If you're spent, make sure you tag a Kissena in or point finger to sky ( classic "one way jesus" style). I would be happy to play backup and help cover early moves too.

- Anticipate an 8 strong Setanta team. Anyone like to venture thoughts on what they'll be doing?

- Mike. Will you have a set of wheels for S/F?
@ John - If my girlfriend gets home from work on time she will drive down with a set of wheels for me. If not, I'm going to have to steal from a teammate.
dudes:

there's a chance that i might have to stay at work for much longer tonight

i'm trying my damndest to get this shit done, but please be warned

if i don't make it, please race hard for me

possibly, shift some "Early" attackers to "late attackers"

I just got a last-minute "duck you" from work that might get me stuck here. If I'm not at GAP by 6:05p head down without me -- I'll try to ride down to FBF directly from Manhattan in time for the 7pm start.
