Dave smashes it on the back. Wojciech hammers through turn two sand trap. I take over. Start to die. Hear a sound..... Rocketship engine to hell Malcomson comes roaring by with Mike in tow heading towards the death curve. I just smile and let up, basically knowing that even with 3 Setanta riders clinging on, it was bye-bye time. Oh, and almost get taken out by a flying elbow from a Liquigas rider. Basso has gotten fat and 2 feet taller.

I thought Graham might have had a little more at the end, only having put in a couple of efforts and then marking Mike. But his team just isn't strong enough, even with their 7-8 guys. Almost felt bad for the guy, he's super nice and strong in his own right.

Congrats to great teamwork from everyone. And of course to Mike, who showed up and delivered over a long series. It was fun. Let's see the frame!

we did really good work out there - every single person threw down hard and we COMPLETELY controlled the race.

interestingly, we did it a bit differently than two thursdays ago: rather than have someone up the road at all times, we kind of stormed the front, let breaks form from time to time, and kept everything that didn't have a kissena in it on a short leash. often it felt like we were the Sprinter's Team just biding our time until we ratcheted up the pace past attack-level.

poor setanta really didn't have "it" tonight . . . they just aren't that strong and they were NOT bringing the fight to us. to his credit, graham threw down two MONSTROUS attacks, but owens and i were one his wheels like glue, and he pulled of after a minute of madness each time.

i flatted with 1.75 laps to go, and Joji kindly gave me his wheel (very pro of you), but when i reached the start/finish and asked, i was informed that the free lap had ended some time ago (duh).

silver lining: i got to see the finish. from the line, you can see all the way to the second straight, and you bet i saw a little red-shirted mike being dragged up to the front by a beefy malcolmson. in the home stretch, some guy from (?) passed mike for the win, but michael pulled out a beastly sprint for second. it's a testament to malcolmson's incredible leadout that he comfortably held on for 5th.

The crew did a stellar job of ensuring a fast pace and putting hurt on Setanta with an all-you-can-eat attack'n bridge fest. Setanta were definitely on the back foot. And as Jeff said the train worked perfectly—Vollbach was on the front from a lap to go. We got organized in the nick of time, just when Vollback pulled off halfway up the back straight and Mike was nearing the front. From there we built up to a pace where we had everyone single file. I new if we could put Mike around the corner in 1st or 2nd he'd close the door, and boom he delivered! Great feeling.

Indeed, some irie BBQ chicken/watermelon at the end capped it off.

Joji rode the first lap as a TT dragging the bunch around which was a great tone setter. FInished his first C4 race too!

I will add a few details to what William said. Kissena was all over the front all race long. We did seem like a sprinters team. Everyone did big amounts of work all night long.

Graham did throw down a few beastly attacks. Owens and William were right on his wheel, and I was right on theirs. He couldn't get away without dragging 4 Kissena's with him.

Coming into the last lap, things were getting a bit sketchy so I moved up a bit. When we hit the bell, I was sitting in 3rd or so. Dave was on the front and soon I was second wheel with Dave leading. Dave keep slowing and looking back as if to say "Am I done?" and I kept yelling at him to keep going harder. To his credit, he kept hammering it over and over and over. We made turn one and about halfway down the stretch Wojciech came to the rescue to take over pace making duties. He knew he was flying right past us, so he slowed up until Dave could get his wheel. As if on cue, Owens and Malcolmnson slot into position around the sandy turn. Wojchiech motors around the sandy turn and strings out the field.

Owens takes over, turning on the gas and things string out a bit more. A Setanta guy had been trying to slot in on John at this point, but I lightly pushed him off. He actually said "sorry." Nice guys.

Owens pulls off and John presses it harder. Frias jumps early to the inside - whatever. John motors around the turn of death. This turn, which I hadn't taken comfortably all night, I finally nailed. Good to do it when it counted. I hung on John's wheel for a few more stokes. I was hoping he'd keep it going but he was fading after that monster pull.

I jumped to the inside and unleashed my monster sprint. Haha. It was a pretty slow sprint but I kept digging and came across second.

It was awesome to have the team come together around me for this race. Kissena looked pro as shit tonight.

Great work fellas. Who's gonna take the next 3/4 series? I used up my vacation days from my summer job for these last two races, but I will certainly help out come August and September.

Mike's a closer! He knew second place was a set of steak knives and so he minded his ABCs and took the whole thing. The team rode well as always, but huge props to Mike for taking full advantage of our efforts and bringing Kissena another big win. I don't think there was a shadow of doubt in anyone's mind that they were working for someone who could come through.

Next Thursday should be interesting!
