Floyd Bennett Field

sorry eric, ryan, and everyone!, if my post came off as indicating i have doubts about how helpful we are to each other.  i don't.  something got lost in translation from my head to the internetz.  i've received 5 am rides in cars from teammates who aren't even racing, free rides in cars that phillip pays to rent, gels in times of need, free equipment, the wisdom of more experienced riders, the fine company of you folks, and more.  looking forward to many more adventures.
Don't forget the team heckles!
I wanted to write a quick note about the difference between bridging to a break and "working to bring something back"

If you are bridging you are basically making the same effort at you would to initiate a break; you do NOT want people to be able to stay on your wheel.

If you are pulling something back you want to get to the front and SLOWLY ramp up the pace so that the field can stay on your wheel.

You can't do both.  This is something you can practice on long rides with teammates - and get adept at talking "back & forth" with the people on your wheel.
Looks like John is in the running for both sprints and overall.

I didn't know there's an overall team competition.
This is back on starting tomorrow. I'll be there for the 3/4 race. Info here and also in the team calendar. (You've all added the team calendar to your devices, right? Right??)

For those of you who are interested in why I am selecting this series instead of Charlie's:

1. The 3/4 field allows 3s of all ages. Not so with Charlie's race, which only allows 40+ year old 3s into the 3/4 race. Allowing 3s of all ages makes the Thursday race harder and more action packed. And better training for me (as well as the under-40 3s who would just basically be TTing off the back in the 1/2/3 race).

2. It is also relatively well-run. Not an AVD special.

3. Series winner gets a Cannondale frame! Ask Mike. Who wants it?

4. MangoSeed provides food sometimes. Maybe only the last race, though. But still. The jerk chicken is legitimate. And watermelon after a Floyd race is sublime.

5. Charlie's races started a bit early in the season for my fitness.

6. Scroll up for photos of Vlad. You will not regret it.
I totally did not regret scrolling up for photos of Vlad.  I suggest using that image for all 12 months of Kissena's 2014 printed calendar.
Well one month should have the collection of his hardware in the calendar. Maybe for October a pic if his wound and scar. But for the rest, the beach pic wins.
Woot!
race report, hbolick:

cat3/4, (10)laps, 4corner 2.8mi course, settingSun, 70dF, steady2gusting wind into turn 2&3 cross wind @finish, plenty KCC's (8)

KCC plan to work for JohnM @finish/bellLap, DaSilva&JohnM w/JulesR @Sprint primes. my goal to ride hard2end&help on last lap.

~chased a little from Lap2, tried2 bring back a few break attempts, a bit of ouch from (ppk VO2 max &JP's teasing me Sunday 9W), final lap moved up fast in inside @turn2 &we t with (old&new)Sprint Leader 'Josh' to front for a long lead-out sprint that died a thousand deaths 75m before turn4...good intoSun view of JohnM, AndyDS&JeffC top10 finishes!

chapeau!

Great stuff!  How did you get past the 15 minute limit or did they open it up?
you just have to "verify" your account, which consists of youTube sending you a text then typing in the verification code. maybe they let me verify my account because i use google's services across many platforms, so perhaps i'm a more 'trusted' category of account within their system?  they know i'm not a robot?  i dunno

nice video...how many more races til you upgrade?

@alyoshas, by my count, 1 more.  my usacycling page doesn't reflect tuesday night's race yet, so it says 2 more.

i'll likely do FBF this tuesday then upgrade.  might do a race this weekend, depends on scheduling; graduation is tomorrow and i don't want to miss festivities.
awesome! happy festivus!
yes @brendan, upgrade already...so i can see myself in the video!  haha
with the majestic, golden setting sun as its background, yang's attack almost brought me to tears.
Yang, that attack worked out perfectly for Brendan. In fact, it's a pretty textbook move (maybe just a touch late). Dudes burned up their legs tracking you down too early for a real sprint to the line. Brendan followed their wheels and was able to do a real sprint out of their draft.

If you're ever in a breakaway with a fellow Kissena, it's not a bad idea for one guy to attack with about 1 km to go, so the other guy can ride the wheels of the chasers and be fresh for a counter or the sprint.
@dave
I second Clifford's statement. I'm all chocked up...
I'm so happy to finally know what my butt looks like in kit.
Good work dudes!
Thanks, Jeff, the other obviously strong guys (Siggis and Ride Brooklyn) didn't have teammates so I thought it was a good opportunity to test out the "rabbit" move even if Brendan could have beaten them in a regular old field sprint.
yeah yang's move totally made the race for me.  the other two guys who had been making a lot of moves both had to follow him, and i followed them, and the rest is history!

i must say, having the video footage is really valuable.  memory just ain't as good as real, objective, replayable data

i'll have to do some sort of montage video called Yang Attacks or something

Some inspiration.

If you have a clear list of your races with results (when available) you can usually get the upgrade guy to cooperate - the USAC website isn't always perfect.

Damn. Brendan, that looked like a pretty impressive sprint.
thanks john.  but i think this is an instance of looks being deceiving.  we were going fairly slowly until david attacked.  http://app.strava.com/activities/58254460 strava says about 20 mph without a headwind.  so we were all nicely rested once the sprint hit the fan

Uh, you hit 35mph+ in the sprint.  I couldn't hit that number with the broad side of a battleship.

not if you keep up your dutiful prospect park weekday morning Worsts!
