Thierrry, from what I overheard at Hotbird, John retains and further reinforced his green jersey and Brendan Rigby took 2nd because he's such a goddamn gentlemen and let the other dude take the sprint.

In the 3/4 race John Malcomlson "the Kiwi Thunder" crushed the sprint competition and now is the holder of the green jersey, and finshed 2nd in the field sprint (taking 4th because there was a 2 man break up the road).
Brendan was gentlemanly to his break partner and chose not to sprint out the finish (claiming that his break partner was responsible for more work). Brendan declined to get an immediate upgrade from Ragot and race the cat 4 race just after finishing his race.
We're all happy to see Brendan come on up to Cat 4.

Great post race bier fest at Hotbird. Thanks to Harry's diplomacy skills, we were allowed in with bikes, but we'll need to bring locks next time, or find a new spot.
3/4 Report: We hatched a plan to lead me out for S1 and then leave it open for breakaway attempts. Alyosha would mark Axis and go with their inevitable move in the strong wind. We had Aaron, Marc, Phillip, Alyoshas, Dan, and myself.
Early laps Phillip, Dan and Harry made sure we always had guys in the breaks so we didn't need to work.
S1: Props to Marc 'overclocker' Clifford sat on the front and caned it to pull back multiple break attempts and then dug deep to drop a Roazen-worthy 1 min lead-out. Konrad finished it off.
Konrad bridges to a 4-man break and then drives it for a lap but it falls apart and it's just him and another guy. They're caught just before...
S2: Harry did the set up and then I then I shopped it. Cue two-man Axis attack! One guy from Nelson's team managed to go with but was spat out a lap later, Alyosha had flatted by this stage so we missed the boat completely.
Bell lap, Carbonara and co. are not coming back and bunch is jostling for the group sprint. Our ranks are somewhat depleted from all the efforts/flat tires; just me, Konrad and the indefatigable Harry B. (who did his usual stellar job of controlling the front). CIS set up a train, which was eventually swarmed. Frias jumps first—too good—I surf for second. Konrad top ten?

Yea some good strong racing out there, didnt have much legs after white plains sunday but did my best until i flatted, i guess it really is time to change out the old front wheel conti 3000 i put many miles on over the winter.
The crew was riding strong indeed, Harry and John were up there the whole time and pasta carbonara pulled off a two man break...i need to get on that next week. Looking forward to riding with the newly upgraded cat 5 guys too.

This race was really really hard. The wind was a huge factor - we'd be rolling at 35 on one stretch and then grind down to 13mph on the next. The tailwind stretches were by far the most difficult and created many many gaps in the field. The 53x12 wasn't enough!
I raced well. I'm happy with my efforts. The race basically shadowed by critical power curve. 300+ watts average power / 322 x-power for the 1hr 5 mins of racing.
I made what I thought was a cheeky move at the end. The break of three was up the road and a small group of 4 was chasing. I attacked through the start finish with 1 to go. I got about 1/2 way and wasn't sure if I'd make it to the chase group. Then ceasar marte came across, I hoped on his well, and we joined the front group with 2 others. Now we had a group of 7 or so. Everyone was shelled and had a hard time working together. We got past turn 3 before being gobbled up by the field. I tried to slot back in the field and "sprinted" for 25th.
Good fun. Good workout.

last night's race was by far my favorite yet. this because it felt like a race for me -- chasing down breaks, leading out john, etc. it was the first time i raced tactically, versus the usual sprint finish in the 5s and my few mid-pack 4s efforts.
admittedly i blew out spectacularly after my break-chasing and lead-out effort, but pulling out after doing that felt infinitely more satisfying than rolling in with a pack.

there are some really funny ones of the fives. including a picture of me and mike that displays a strange dental trend of the day's break: prominent incisors. also, the picture looks dramatic until you see that i'm...in the little ring. on a flat. oh floyd and your winds of change...*cue scorpions*
i'll post a race report when i upload the video. it's encoding now. takes forever. unfortunately this video is exceptionally boring. all you see is the pace car and mike's butt. unfortunately, i used the solid backing on the gopro to keep it waterproof in the event of rain. this prevents the audio from getting through; you'll just have to trust that i made an explicit promise to mike that i wouldn't contest at the end. hence the photo of me sitting up while mike crosses the finish. i swear i wasn't admitting defeat!

- 0:53 - i attack about halfway down the straightaway after turn 1 in order to take advantage of the tailwind
- 1:19 - it's not that dramatic, but the pace car doesn't realize we attacked and lets us get a little closer than usual, then does a little attacking of its own
- 2:45 - begin to slow thinking the pack is with me after turning onto the windy stretch, but it's actually just one dude, mike, from siggy's, and we decide to work together
- (mike and i ride together for 20 minutes)
- 21:57 - alyosha can be observed snapping the photos above
- 22:00 - some fools are just waltzing around on the course like they belong there
- 22:00ish looking back and knowing the field is nowhere near me, i let mike take the finish at his own pace, which happens to be considerably faster than what i had in mind. i felt like he'd done more work so i told him at the beginning of the bell lap that i wouldn't contest the sprint unless he really wanted to
- the camera apparently has an automatic de-loop-de-looper, which removed the loop-de-loop
- i think i might be missing a lap...i was having camera issues. i also might only be missing a corner.

You did good, Rigby. I didn't keep track but you did a fair amount of time at the front too. I wonder if the field tried to chase at all...

If memory serves, Harry has posted a story where he did a similar thing and then regretted it just a week or two later when he got dicked over by the same guy for whom he gifted the win a week or so later.
I also personally wouldn't want to be the guy who "won" a race because it was gifted to me.
