Planning to be there.

Anyone want to meet at GAP?

Anyone want to meet at GAP?
could do depending on time. 6?
@Rich: I'll try to be there from 6-6:05. If we don't see each other there, I'll see you at the race.
The guys rode very hard today, unfortunately we came home mostly empty handed. John grabbed a $30 prime. Rich, Jeff, and Wojciech rode hard as nails. I tried to get a break together a number of times but it wasn't in the cards I guess. Probably should have been a little more selective with my moves and saved some energy for the inevitable field sprint. The guys got me in a good position but I jumped too early, got swarmed, and probably took somewhere around 12th. I had full calf muscle cramps with 1 to go and they came back in the sprint, really painful.

On a side note, it was my first race in awhile with a power meter. Here are my power peaks if anyone is interested, not too impressive at all.

Average Power (watts)
5 sec: 848
10s: 758
20s: 610
30s: 517
1 min: 497
2 mins: 380
5 mins: 321
10 mins: 304
20 mins: 296
30 mins: 285
45 mins: 275
@Mike: Not enough wind tonight to really shred things, I guess. But WOW. That was a lot of attacks. I think you might have set some kind of record. Graham went? Attack! Kissena break got caught? Attack! Not much really goin' on? Attack! Lance went? Attack! That other big guy on Organic who looks a lot like Lance from behind went? Follow that shit. James Joseph pulls some crazy bull-honkey on the final lap? Attack! But in the end the conditions weren't agreeable to our race tactics of always having someone off the front.

This one was my FBF cherry and it was some of the most fun I've had in a race this year. Rich and John got huge gaps -- Rich with one other guy, John solo for the second prem -- despite both of them lamenting ailments of one sort or another at the start. And Wojchiech, with whom I had never had the privilege of racing until tonight, was all over the front, super-aggressive, and had a legit early-race flyer of his own. I did some stuff, too.

Great first FBF race for me. I totally felt like a real "3-racer." Got yelled at twice by SHMALZ HIMSELF during the first half of the race for braking in the corners (guilty as charged), then got to scream at him after I shut one of his moves down and he decided to suddenly slow down and swing off. I felt like there was a real rapport there. Who says bromance is dead? And then, to top it off, I got shouldered out of my Kissena lead-out train cleanup-hitter position by the notoriously sketchy James Joseph before the final corner. Be still my heart. I've arrived.
@ Jeff

It's worked for the last 5 races I figured it would work tonight. I'm glad you enjoyed Floyd, it has always been a favorite of mine.
My peak power for the race:

5 sec 755
30 sec 485
1 min 374
2 min 327
3 min 292
4 min 285
5 min 276
10 min 271
15 min 264
20 min 258
30 min 250
40 min 244
Nice report Jeff, I am digging Floyd too.

My peak power:

Dueling Flatbush Ave Dollar van 1800w
Throwing up in my my mouth after prime 50w
Sweating profusely 10w
Sitting down the back eating dust half the race -400w

1 min of 497w is pretty gnarly Mike. Unbelievable to think Contador holds those kind of numbers for 20mins!

Next week I will make sure I've got something left in the tank to help with the lead-out.

Out in LI this weekend. Good luck racing fellas.
Was thinking about taking this Thursday off, but with the CSR cancelled, I will be racing Thursday. Not sure if I have the leaders jersey or not, but should be fun to race with or without it. Let's hope for wind and think about racing a little smarter.
Just made myself puke riding in the humidity. Alpine/Bradley to Nyack. Asthma was bad with the ozone and particulate matter. Point is, if I don't lapse into a coma, I'll join for the fun tomorrow. Gotta get that chainstay back.

xoxoxo
I'm actually -acquainting myself with FBF tomorrow. First time in 2011.
Count me in.
Typical. I've been feeling worse and worse since about 10am this morning. I may still turn up and race, or I may just go home to bed. Either way: best of luck out there.
It may not be the right place on the MB to say this, but I'm wondering whether we're representative of the general population or if we are more prone to respiratory problems.

Kissena or cyclists in general? Probably both.

Seriously, obese people are too.
I'll be at GAP at 6 if anyone wants to caravan.
We did some debriefing as a team, but basically it went like this: Graham got away and won solo. I'm pretty sure he took the jersey from me. I could not match his attack and we couldn't chase him down. After his attack I made an attempt to bridge with Scotto's guys but they were not really willing to work hard, or they couldn't I'm not sure which one.

Graham was flat out strong as an ox. Wojciech, John M., Jeff & Jeff were all very strong and worked their asses of. Carl nabbed maybe 4th or 5th overall. If I'm lucky I got 6th but I didn't stay for the results.

We got no love from the other teams, and all my moves were marked by 10+ guys, and nobody would chase. Setanta did a great job blocking and keeping a presence on the front.

Afterwards, the consensus between me Jeff and Jeff, was that better communication during the race was the only thing that might have helped a bit.

I'm out for next week, flying to Chicago for a wedding.

Mike
Yeah. I like the post-race breakdowns. Gives you a good idea of what to learn. Anyway: what mike said. We had John with Graham, but once he started fading, we should've made a concerted effort to rotate our 5 guys up front, since no one else was willing to work. I dunno why 3 strong scottos guys aren't wanting to race for the win, happy to wait for 2nd place, but they're nice guys so whatever. I understand not always wanting to ride until you puke...actually I don't. Not in a race anyway. I guess that's my wanna-be jens voight talking.

I should be available next week for operation points gobble.
I flatted out with 2 to go on a slow leak, but it didn't even matter. I couldn't bring Graham back at that point. I did a couple hard pulls on the front as my tire went down, but frankly I think I was just spelling John a bit at that point, as my 40 second pulls were only 320 watts or so. Badlegs today.

I agree about our less-than-ideal communication. My only cue to get my ass on the front was seeing Mike in the red jersey leading the chase himself. Kind of a body blow to see that -- sorry Mike. Theoretically we should/could have gotten him more help sooner and let him save for a more-realistic bridge attempt or a sprint for first or second.

I'll be out there next week.
Well, it was a little confusing. I couldn't quite tell if Mike was trying to bridge up with another group, or just dragging the field. It was a weird race that way. Although once John came back, I tried to keep mike from exhausting himself pulling everyone. But that's what happens when noone else wants to work. Mike would try to make a bridge attempt or form a chase group, and it's flies on shit. So it's difficult once graham got away and no one but Kissena cared. Again, not that they should have, but they knew we had the leader and were just sitting in for the field sprint. So it goes!
So, Mike is the shit in your metaphor, correct? Nice, Jeff. Nice.
Well, it was intended as their perspective of swarming and doing nothing otherwise. Sorry if it came off as anything other than complimentary to Mike being a horse.
OK, so I got to feel the absolute shame of getting dropped from the break by the number one threat to Mike's jersey. Couldn't even hang on his wheel when he came through after my lap.

I'd been away a couple of laps with the latin dude (who works his ass off in a break every race). We'd dropped the guy who didn't take one pull and then Graham came out of seemingly nowhere and steamrolled through. I didn't recognize him and thought, great! Another helper! This break will stick! But jesus did I underestimate how strong he was. I also failed to realize that I already had my foot flat to the boards of my Toyota Celica. When I (blown up, cursing) dropped back to the break, the whole Satanta team were on the front trying to soft pedal—fake shoulder rolling Marcel Marceau style. I really tried hard to take catch back with the Jeff's. We pegged back some time with 1 to go, but not enough to get the bunch excited. I think the other teams were relishing the fact that we couldn't bring him back. It's like, ohhh shhiiit. A few sporadic attacks. But it was testimony to Graham's strength that he was away 5 laps solo (hat off). I was hammered for the sprint.

In terms of improving, I didn't talk to anyone—maybe Jeff briefly when we were trading efforts—lame. I think we had enough jerseys to do the job, just needed someone to paint a laser on Graham's back and call in air support/napalm. Can we use Skype as race radio?
Like Charlie Sheen on an eight-ball.
Photos from last night. None of me.
