Phew. Ya'll were about to see a major internet melt-down about how the club needs to protect my leaders jerseys at a training series and how I was quitting to go to a "real team."

Hahahahahaha! Good one. Almost a year to the day! I still laugh about that. One of my introductions to ny racing. It was truly awesome.

I know. We have remained friends, that's the only reason I joke about it.

Here is the super quick report:

Wojciech and Joe attacked and attacked and attacked. They were all over the front at the beginning of the race. After my little joke above I think it is really important to say how great it feels lining up with the two strongest guys in the field wearing the same jersey as me.

There were some early moves, a Scotto guy who always sits in breaks and doesn't work went solo. We let him dangle for a few laps so that felt great.

I'm not really clear how the break started but the main players were right there - Graham and Lance, along with a Breakaway Courier rider, so 4 total. James Joseph bridges up along with another Setanta. I barked out orders like a drill sergeant and we got a gap. I felt like a total dick yelling at people but there is a huge tendency for guys to take MONSTER pulls and then die. I got a rotating pace line with a tight (and soft pedaling) recovery line together and we were away. At one point organization was totally lacking as 1/2 the break wasn't pulling. Graham, Courier and I decided to drive the break a bit to make sure we stayed.

With 1.5 laps to go I let Graham and Courier get a gap. Still, the others refused to pull. I tried to jump across but dragged them to Graham. Courier was still away. 1 to go. Blasted it through the corner as hard as I could to get to the courier rider, Graham came with. James and Lance and Setanta teammate (dutifully sitting in) were gone. We worked together and then cat and mouse began. Graham attacked and I let the courier rider close the gap. I encouraged them to keep pulling but tried to save some energy. Into the home stretch Courier was leading and pulled off. Graham started to sprint, but realized I was right on his wheel. He hesitated , I swung left so he couldn't grab my wheel and sprinted. Got the win with a nice gap.

Great racing.

There is a very good chance I am going on a field trip to DC with my students next Thursday. I'd love it if we could get a group out there to FUCK SHIT UP and take away all the points from my main competitors.

P.S. Joe Mueller brought me a lovely bottle of Allagash Belgian Tripel, what a surprise! I drank it with a delicious hamburger for a late dinner.

Nice! Almost regret waking up early to train, but it sounds like things couldn't have gone any better with me there, so it's all good! I'll be out there next Thursday for operation FSU doing my best Perlberg impression. Maybe Joe will bring me a beer?

I just finished my 6th day in a row on the bike. No pain! I'm super stoked. I haven't felt good on the bike in months so this is a big step for me. I even rode hard enough this morning to make the subway stairs hurt on the way to work. Progress: slowly but surely.

I am hoping to start racing in 2-3 weeks. I'll be smashing myself on the PP weekday morning rides starting this week.

I can't make it tomorrow, I'm taking a trip to DC with students. I'm in the lead by I think 10 points or so. Here are the standings if I'm calculating correctly:

Perlberg 44
Graham 34
Lance 27 (if he got 5th last week - I'm not sure exactly)

If you can make it and kick some ass, that would be cool. But seriously, if the weather is really shitty and you think it's dangerous to race there with thunderstorms, rain, and the puddles etc. stay home. I don't want anyone getting hurt on my accord. I will get some points back next week. Have fun, looking forward to reading the reports on the bus ride home.

Well the course is the short one, we use the diagonal runway that cuts through, making the course a triangle rather then a parralellogram. Last time it rained most of the flooding was at the back corner right before the old finish, since we don't use it it wasn't a problem.

If conditions remain dry, as they have so far today, I'll be there.

weather.com is now saying clear until 6pm.

right on - imma skip this tonight and do rockleigh. seems like a better course and better commute for a stormy day

I am glad I am not racing. On the bus to DC, came down with a killer fever / migrane /sweats & chills. Was in denial last night but now I feel like shit. Weekend riding is qeustionable for me.

Good luck tonight. Remember to keep racing even if you get dropped, there will be points available from the second group if the 1234s all race together.

GRRR. Even though it looks like the weather might hold up, *I* got held up at work and just got home. No way I'm making it there on time, registering, pinning, etc. Sorry Mike -- feel better!

It was me and John out there tonight. As predicted they combined the fields

Started off strong, managed to stay top ten most of the race and only fell back 3 times, but realized it quickly enough to grab a wheel. At one point I'm riding riding and there are guys up front taking turns pulling and one of them yells at me and the guy behind to help, in my head I'm asking help with what? I turn around and we have a small but sizable gap on the field. I promptly apologize, and take a strong turn pull, however we were caught soon-there-after. The attacks are what hurt the most today. I followed a few on them when I was right on the riders wheels but ran out of gas quickly for those. A break of 5-6 got away at some point and just missed getting caught. I finishe dead last, but with the pack : D John finished up there in the sprint

Observations: it looked like a lot more 3/4 guys then 123 guys were at the front throughout the race. The 123's did all of the attacking and sprinting, but didn't pull? I don't know, maybe I'm just remembering one detail of when I was actually thinking about what's happening around me

Michael, lance finished third I believe but JJ& Graham where dropped of the back I believe. Looks like you're still in the jersey

Props to Wojciech who was super aggressive the whole race. Race was on short course and lot's of water gravel and crap on the tarmac made it fairly technical/scary. Lighter winds though, so it didn't allow the 1-3's to use their monster attacks to shatter the field. I even tried my hand in a couple of breaks! One looked good about 9/15, but we lost a strong guy to a puncture. Got a slow leak in the last lap couple of laps. The winning break was really left to dangle for quite a while and I felt certain would be shutdown by late attacks. But everyone was blocking, or ? It was an odd field. I saw Graham was in our bunch, but I took a lap on the final back straight to try and pull it back, fully expecting him or a Mengoni attack (as they didn't have a rider up). Break Away courier guys blocked after I pulled thru into the headwind and then Brian Breach just casually rode off to bridge and no one responded. I was mad that I didn't (ok couldn't) just go when I saw it, but I was pretty surprised the bunch let him just waltz off. About 300 out I lost all reason and drilled it in the gutter, about eight guys came past me in the straight. I just wanted to make those sitting sprinters hurt! Perhaps not a genius race strategy in hindsight, felt good though.
