FBF TT: Sunday June 10th

I'm going to stay in town this weekend since I have work all day Saturday. I'm planning on racing this, unless there is a sudden disinterest from club members. Can those planning on racing state their intentions here so we can put together TTT teams?

Here are the TTT rules for planning purposes:

The Team Time Trials allow 4 people to start. The team's time is taken when the third rider crosses the line. Teams must start with at least 3 riders. All aero equipment is allowed in the TTT. The Men's A TTT is for teams that include Cat 1/2/3 riders. A teams may include lower category riders. The Men's B TTT is for teams with Cat 4 riders. B teams may include Cat 3 riders who are over 40 years of age or are eligible for the CRCA B field. Cat 5 riders can be included on either A or B teams.

I'd like to do the P/1/2/3 ITT and Men's A TTT.

A couple of things to note:

Day of registration = $50 (vs. $20 and $15 respectively)
Individual Time Trials - 250 Combined Rider Limit
Team Time Trials - 25 Combined Team Limit
Riders can Participate in both the ITT and the TTT. The ITT will run first, followed by TTT.
Riders competing in multiple ITT categories (i.e. P/1/2/3 and Masters or P/1/2/3 and Cannibal) are eligible for a $10 rebate at registration on their second category.

Despite the fact that very few people are registered as of right now, the sooner we reg the better.... just saying.
i don't have a TT bike, or anything aero-related, but plan to give the Cannibal TT a shot just for the training miles.

i'd be interested in joining a crew for the Men's B TTT as well, if non-TT equipped riders are allowed to participate.....but will defer to peeps with aero equipment of course.
I'll register later tonight
TT and TTT
I'm going to hold my smoke and not decide until Thursday to see how I feel.

Whuhu? No Riverton? A crit versus a TT at FBF? You guys are sick and demented.

i'd choose a Riverton over FBF any day if it wasn't a 3 1/2 hour round trip on top of the racing. just too long away from the family for a 25-mile race.
I'm in for the ITT. So much fun that I'll do it twice.
Willing to join any TTT team that will have me.
I just registered for both the P/1/2/3 and A TTT.

For reference, when asked for team name for the A TTT, I specified Kissena Cycling Club.
I'm about 65% for the Cannibal, as I'm dying to compete in any way possible. I'd be up for trying the TTT also as a non-areo rider if one was needed, but like Stearns will defer our skinsuited brethren.
For those who can't get down to Riverton Sunday, I strongly recommend doing the team time trial, or both the TTT and hte ITT. It's an exquisite style of pain. It will also make you a better racer, and stronger, too.

John, could you scare up the appropriate Cycling Tips article? Can't find one yet

here's some stuff I found

I'll try to put down some advice later.
Done.
In for both 1/2/3 and TTT
Must beat other cat 3's...
OK, I'm tempted but unsure whether to do cannibal or 50+. The last TT I did was like in 1985 or so, when the only choice was cannibal. Anyone have clip on bars I can borrow? Maybe I can stretch my speedo over my helmet!
Thoughts on the Cannibal?

go for it!

Can we get a 4th for the A men's TTT? John? Woj?
I AM THE FOURTH! Horse/Ox in the hizzy. I'm leaning towards "ox", sorry, WDC. Just b/c it's closer to Ogre.

@Mike TTT - who do we have? me you Vlad? Owens? Jules? John?
Looks like Me, Eric, Vlad, Owens.

Friday 4PM prospect park practice. or we can roll down to FBF depending on how much time you all have.
Check out the "backstage pass" video...

All we need is a bus with a locker room.
I'm going to do the ITT Eddy. If a B TTT team needs an extra person - let me know. Maybe we have enough folk for an Eddy TTT team ?
Ian, I'll be in the itt eddy as well, though i don't believe they're doing a team cannibal

Hoping more people register as winning from a group of 13 would be silly

Pre-reg closes tomorrow at noon so don't forget to register as day of is 50 bucks, making it 5$/ mile...
I've signed up for the Eddy as well. I think we may be too late to put together a 'B' TTT.

I'm more or less using it as a test. If I can do 300w for 16-17 minutes, can I hold 285 for close to 30? We'll see…
Mike, Eric, Vlad & Jeff- I always had beef with you guys.

Hence I'm doing the TTT as well in hopes of kicking your asses.

Just kidding, but Lance, Tadeusz & myself are going to do it together.

I think it'll be fun, not a lot of other teams registered so I figured the more "teams" we have the better

I contacted CRCA and they said you're allowed to mix & match teams
That is a hard as nails team Woj.

What's the team name going to be?
ttt tips

The start is really important. Know what your rotation is before the start. Everyone starts in a light gear, like 53x19 or 21. The first rider should be the steadiest and strongest of the bunch, preferably with a powermeter. He should go for at least a minute to make sure everyone lines up behind him. The power meter is for not over-doing the start. Basically, the person should get a little above their threshold fast and sit down and start shifting through the gears to get up to speed while keeping power constant.

For those with power-meters, your threshold power for the average power over 11.5 miles probably should be your goal. on a good day, you might be able to go a bit higher. This means you should be over it when riding hte front and under it when drafting. Problem is not all the riders will have equal thresholds. If weaker riders are above their threshold while sitting last wheel, they probably shouldn't be pulling at all.

Riding smoothly is important. Surging kills everyone. Don't do it.

Time trials probably should be ridden as if you're applying a tourniquet on yourself. The first third you can manage somewhat comfortably, the second third, somewhat uncomfortably, the final third it really, really hurts. The ideal is to cramp up seconds after you finish.

If everyone is equally matched and the road is straight, people should be doing pulls around 20 seconds. Once you're off, the front, get back to the back as fast as possible. The stronger pull longer, the weaker pull shorter or not at all.

Use the road seams that are running parallel to your direction as a guide to where the leader's wheel should be.

Pulling off on the proper side is important. Always pull off into the wind. HAve an agreement before the start which side you're pulling off to on which segment of the course. If you think you have the skill to pull it off, echelon. It's tricky.

Cornering is important. You're going to have three turns per 1.7 mile lap. Taking the fast, smooth, safe line through the turns will really add up over the course of the event. So, too, will not be letting gaps open through the corners. you don't want to be dropping people on the turns.

With turn one, everyone should be able to pedal through. Two and three, you'll probably have to coast for some of the turn. In terms of getting back to speed coming out of the turn, staying in the saddle will be easier in terms of those behind you. Just make sure you're in the right gear before the turn. Remember, no surging.

As the time is taken off the third rider, you want to keep the four together as long as possible because anyone can have a flat at any time. Even if the weakest rider is just drafting, he's not only helping the cause by reducing the effort of the last rider, but a spare part if one of the three rotating riders flats. But if the fourth rider can't hold the pace, dropping him is probably the right thing to do. If you're down to two riders, the TTT is over.

The above means that the rider who is sitting on should go through 1,000 deaths just to stay on. Bad day, doesn't matter. Ends up being great training.
Not sure yet, since it will be us 4 polaks I was thinking of something to do with polish ____. Suggestions appreciated!

Polish Sausage? lol.

I emailed CRCA as I'm not sure if we can just make up a team, i know they can get pretty anal about technicalities
Hah. before i read your second line the word sausage certainly came to mind.

the polish hammer? who's the 4th?
This guy Alex, also polish from Staten Island

He might flake though so if anyone is interested in denouncing your American citizenship for Sunday and becoming one of us let me know!
Będziesz zniszczone.
Niemyszle!

So John M came over to the polish side as well... BAHAHAHAHAHA

looks like it will be Kissena vs Polska vs Setanta vs Comedy central vs crca development

Awesome
Oh this is going to be awesome
