I added a small box at the top of the home pages for the 5 most recent discussions across the platform. beneath that the categories and recent discussions within each display as before. We can have 3, 5, or 10 of the most recent discussions across the entire forum display
Higher resolution profile pics are a nice change

FWIW, mine is only showing 3 threads in the Recent Discussions box (Windows 10 w/ Chrome, if that matters).
Oh yea it didn’t save properly. anyone has preference between 3, 5, or 10? Or none? Lol
none for me, else 3 or 5
I like 5 but 3 works too - thanks Stephen!
Totally tell me to rack off Stephen, but might this Google font work as a replacement?

@JohnMalcolmson - Updated! We can use any Google fonts fairly easily so lmk if you want to try any others
Mint! Do you like it? For me it's still hard to see unread at a glance (welders eye?)... go for the 800 or the Black?

That sample looks great!
I can try and figure this out over the next week or two if I can specify what unread style should be. I haven't found a place to separate from global style

I think we’re one of Vanilla’s longest customers - shoot them an email and ask.
quick note, on the "Recent discussions" block, it seems that 3 or 5 is not the right amount. We would want the block to show all discussions that are "new" since I last checked. Not sure if that is possible, if not possible, I would suggest we remove the block.

Basically, today, the 3 "Recent discussions" are good, but I find myself scrolling to make sure I did not miss anything else that is "new".

i.e. if more than 3 things are "new" then they do not appear on the box, so no box is better.

This is what the notification bell is for. It will show all items that have not been read and you can mark them read as well.

For a list of all discussions in order of most recently posted, you can check here which lists the 100 most recent discussions: https://kissenacycling.vanillacommunity.comhttps://kissenacycling.vanillacommunity.com/discussions

@StephenAschkenes I agree with @eloy here.  Having the Recent Discussions is nice for a quick peek for new posts, but if there are 3 threads in the RD section, then I'm stills scrolling to check everything else.

Also, my notification bell only has notifications for when I'm mentioned, not recent discussions.
@StephenAschkenes that's not how to notifications work for me... either case, the point remains... the "Recent discussions" block is incomplete as it doesn't show all "new" replies/posts -- requiring a second action, scrolling, notifications, clicking on a link... etc... so then, I'll argue, it is a cleaner user experience to remove it. As only one action is required and makes the user certain they caught all "new" replies or posts.
I like how it is setup right now!
@eloy @GregHoge I’ll keep this then! Also you can adjust what you get notifications for. In the top right corner of the little notifications dropdown, you can click the settings icon and adjust. I have mine set to notify me when someone writes on bookmarked discussions and then I went through and bookmarked about 40/50 threads I frequent most.
@Jules - Emailed Vanilla and we are not currently able to set a font specifically for unread discussion titles. So we will need to select a font which has a bold style which is distinct enough from the body style

Hopefully that email saved you some Freitas’s cycles searching…
I just realized the "mark all read" button is missing in the new layout. Any chance of resurrecting that?
Unfortunately Vanilla said they don’t support this prior functionality for the current version of the forum but they’ve got an item on their backlog to bring it back because it’s been widely requested.
@Jules
Read them all!!

@StephenAschkenes
I wonder if we should please remove the instragram box? it almost never works and causes the forum to horizontally scroll unnecessarily.

it was my request to include since it's the most frequently updated of the socials. but it certainly doesn't sit well in the sidebar.
I'm looking for the button to start a new discussion.  I'm sure it's in an obvious spot, but I'm not finding it.

A little help?
top right under the calendar. When you click new post you get a drop down menu that let's you pick
Matt,
      I looked there.  But it doesn't seem to be on my screen.  FWIW, I'm using Safari.

oh that's so weird (my screen below has it). @StephenAschkenes any ideas?
