Harry and Mitch did ok in C5. Harry off the front for most the race... 6th?

BH and Teany had strong teams and ended up delivering the winning move, with Mengoni rider bridging in the last two laps. It was a counter attack to a break I was in (that I thought would stick). Having just gone all-in I wanted to not be the tool to drag everyone to the finish line. But with two teams blocking and the 10 guys who had been sitting on the whole race not participating it was dropped in our lap. Joji and I eventually traded pulls with Sal from Gorilla and another guy, but left it about 50m too late.

Joji's first time at Floyd, did great shutting it down mid-race and was away for half a lap with strong attack and I think he was top ten. Hope we can get some more numbers out there next week to wreak havoc—McKay?

short report: cat5, 35min, crit-style, 2.25mi flat course, winds 8-10mph, field of 21,  incl. top 2winners of spring tues&thurs night series, pete seniaRR &ol' sammy T., sadly, harryB out front right away +2laps on his own trying to stay away, mitch pointed out to me, 'you know we are on the same  team...' me a wee bit confused as  mitch did not have 'Kissena kit' so, me w/my kit in tatters thought humm, ok sounds good  mitch was rolling strong &calling out 'wattage #'s' w/me clueless as to meanings of rhis or that # 'eh, so, your feeling good?!' right! ok, what to do 2Laps togo, pack has just caught me on back straight...me clearly tired, 'plan: lets take off w/1km togo &pre-empt the sprinters' ..meanWhile 'harrison - TeamRaphael' pulls out past start finish &gets a gap(i/we should have gone w/him) he is strong & w/ a f*n lazy pack NO one would work to pull him in other than mitch&me we got to within 10m by finish, but he was gone...mitch ramped it up(effectivly a lead-out for pack into final turn i sprinted on the far outside & per typical was passed by 6, caught 2 by line&finished 6th again!;/

glad to have seen all of the achievements since mid summer at Kissena! While i had a wonderful experience chasing the pro-tour in the Pro-Cycling challenge in Colorado in August in the first stage from Salida, and another one the next day riding 4k feet up to a high pass, i strained my neck on the descent. I have been struggling with it since, and have been off the bike and have lost fitness. Looking forward to starting all over again though and a better season next year!

Sorry to hear McKay—late winter Ride Brooklyn Computrainer classes perhaps? . Looking forward to setting up a train for you early season, unless I get kicked up to Cat 3/Masters.
Following the pro-tour sounds pretty badass, you were riding the closed roads?

well, its a longer story, but as the tour left Salida on the first stage, i got so excited about it that i thought i would follow, thinking there must be hundreds of other goofy fans doing the same thing... but i was wrong, i chased all the cars, motorcycles, helicopters, and pro-riders out of town... alone... (some people cheered me on thinking i was part of the tour...) i watched them fade quickly into the distance, and enjoyed 2 hrs of closed roadway to myself

Good day today out at the graveyard. Windy as hell, strong head/cross winds on two of the three sides of the triangle. Break went early with Malcolmson in it along with Vlad from Speedwell and Jaime from BH and a couple others who would get dropped, so it was mainly those three.

Race shattered in the wind, I sat on a chase group of 4 that was 15-30 seconds behind John's group from lap 3 on. I listened to them bitch about me not working and considered telling the NYVelocity guy to who asked "hey Kissena you gonna do any work today?" that he should ask the people he's paying thousands of dollars a year to teach him bike racing why I wouldn't work to help them bring back a teammate....

Yup, Johnny M, former Cat 1 trackie from Austrailia, outsprinted Vlad, the series leader FTW!

I did try twice to bridge but wanted to do it solo or with 1 other so as not to drag all four of them up to John. But they weren't having it.

I ended up 7th I think, I didn't really want to try to take them at the end after doing no work so I didn't contest.

Props too to Harry who took the 5 race in a sprint. So Kissena went 2/2 this morning (we didn't have anyone in the 1/2/3).

Someone just pointed out to me discreetly that John is from New Zealand. Of that I am aware having discussed at length with him the many benefits of communism.

Thus, I did not, in fact, mistake his New Zealand accent for that of an Australian. If you know your cycling history, you know that John was a Cat 1 track racer in fucking Australia, where they are allowed to swipe at each other with big croc fighting knives on the bell lap.

So stop "whispering" me, Jeff.

Oh yeah, here's a picture of John after his big win doing some ritualistic gesture that I don't understand. It has something to do with Jules, I think. John will probably explain after he gets back from Bear Mountain, where he went to do some recovery riding after winning the race. I think they were also drinking some croc blood and maybe doing a human sacrifice up there too, I don't know

race report:
a win 2day!
ws united graveyard series 1st of+/-28riders, by 0.5m in sprint finish, 35min. crit 1.25mi course, flat, dry, high winds, field replete w/past series winners, including the infamous(&worthy) sammy T., him 1st in series standings w/17 cat5 races in 1st 2 ws united series this season, &me tied for 2nd w/7races in the 3 ws united series; ALL week have agonized over what/how to approach this race, fortunately, i bumped into Ryan twice &received sage advice in tactics, the some of the best being to 'mark' (know where they are in the pack) the known strong racers and to wait, do not follow them unless a second strong rider jumps their wheel...i've typically pounced on most every move or set them myself &dangled out front for a lap or 2, secondly, i had a nice pre-ride of the course with Ryan this morning and he pointed out where he had attacked to get a break in a previous win. so, NO DEALS today, just read the riders, maintained second wheel, a high pace &pushed it after 1st turn into the low 30mph to dissipate the impact of big sprinters, and importantly read the wind for the final sprint, with one Lap togo, we had hung sammy out front for an entire lap, dropped the pack, and the four remaining guys only last week's winner Harrison of L.Raphael and i were working the front, as we approached the last turn a Cornell guy took off i jumped on his wheel, outside left echelon to the wind adn as we turned fell back a bit crossed over to the inside right echelon right and road him to 7m of the 1st cone, sprinted full throtel to his right and infront of the 1st cone with 10m togo i pushed as hard as i could 10cm from each of the series of cones lined up on my right to the line, sammy T 1/2wheel behind me on the left. a win in the wind &against sammy T., ahh felt good. 8Laps, 22.5avg, 33.7mx, tied for 1st overall.

Loved watching the 4's race john vlad & Garneau rode hard to stay out front of ryan's pack, nice return ride w/ Joji

Thanks all... Just returned from 8 hours of 53x11 Bear Mtn hill repeats.

I want to thank comrades Ryan and Joji (running on 50% lung capacity I might add) for holding back the bourgeoisie. No one else bridged and the sprint was a straightforward "hold-it... hold-it... now sprint" deal. I have to hat's-off to Jaime who jettisoned the last Major Taylor(?) guy sitting-on by dropping back 200m's and then jumping back up to us.

Jules, I'm sure you'll be proud to hear that I alienated myself from my fellow Cat 4's by screaming a victory "Gymkata!" Yes, including air-punch.
Afterwards everyone looked at me a little funny. Head scratch. Also, as you can see in the photo above, the bloody croc meat lashed to the handle bars added to the effect. Any takers for next week? William? How about you Mr Whispers?

Ryan, I hope you fixed Vlad's headset before his forks fell out (he couldn't sprint out of the seat because his headset was a bit wobbly).

And, speaking of croc blood: New Zealand 20, Oz 6 in the Rugby World Cup semi. I hope you all know who I was rooting for... France v NZ final... there will be more blood.

Yeah, I'm with Perlberg on this one. It's part of team racing. You sit on and block, then you use your relatively fresher legs to crush them when you choose. That's how it's done. I'm sort of perplexed by this recent rash of Kissena's giving shit away on the road.

On another note, half the time I can't tell when you guys are serious or joking around. Is John Malcolmson really a former Cat 1 trackie who used to race in Australia? The very same Australia that turns out some of the fiercest bike racers around?

My two pence worth about not pulling in a break:-

You are never obliged to do anything in a bike race. You can get in a break with no teammate up the road and do nothing at all if you wish. Your choice. A lot of the time people will decide against this as they feel they have a better chance if their break stays away than back in the pack. If the rest of the break can't drop you, their choice is to carry on and drag you around or get caught by the field and try again without you in 2 laps time. Simples!

One caveat is that people may label you as a dick. However, I seem to feel that if you back up sly behaviour with good results, that is more than enough to change you from a 'dick' to 'someone getting the job done' in most racers' eyes.

@ Adam. Cheers dude. Please don't be jealous about Vlad, it's really not the same without you, you'll always be number 1.
