I'm not super tech savvy but my guess is 500mb will get you about 20 minutes.

Tip 1: Buy tunnel bear. It is $7 dollars. 

Otherwise, 500 mb will probably get you thru two races and a little bit more -- obviously disconnect when not using it, and don't go all HD.

Now on other news, and hopefully not to take away from the great racing we saw today. 

As far I can gather, one of the pit bikes of U23 racer Femke van den Driessche, was caught with an engine.

She dropped out for no apparent reason mid race -- best guess is she was told she was disqualified.

Hard to image a 19 year girl placing an engine on her own bike. Definitely heartbreaking if she was directly involved.

Femke van den Driessche could be doing some sort of engineering savant, but definitely would suggest there is a wider group of folks who are engaged in putting this plan in place.

I think this is another area where Greg LeMond has been blowing the whistle for a while now...he recommends using a heat gun...or rather a gun that detects a heat signature in places it should never...like hubs, cranks and bb's

Pretty amazing the U23 women's race winner , world champion in your first race abroad ,

when you think about it...cross bikes are covered in mud and getting switched out constantly = ripe playground for mechanical tomfoolery

didn't think it was possible to get even close to the exciting level of the elite women, but omg, the last 2.5 laps of the U23 men race were completely nuts!

If I had to guess which of the Americans would have finished on the lead lap, I might not have included Travis Livermon, who placed 39th 7:14 down. Major props to him! Also, Allen Krughoff, in 41st 7:39 down, was the last rider not pulled.

Wish there were more post race interview of the US team...

The story is picking up steam.  UCI announced technical fraud.  Wilier is suing Femke, Femke claims the bike is a friend's and had no idea there was a motor in the bike.  Still no pictures of the motor yet.

Despite all the talk of mechanical doping, I'm wondering if the real tech story of Worlds was how many racers chose canti's over discs. Basically everyone on cantilevers is sponsored by a manufacturer which nominally makes both, though clearly favors discs.

I didn't count 'em. How many disc vs cantis? I'm not sure that this is a story anymore honestly. I'd be surprised to see cantis on any CX bikes in about 5 years time. But, who knows...vinyl made a comeback.

even I don't care much about disc vs. cantis anymore. most people appeared to be on Cantis.

Specially noticeable was Thalita de Jong, who still races her 2012/2013 canti giant branded frame (i.e. not a liv discs)

also noticeable was Sven -- who gives no fucks anymore.

I'll bet $5 he will not ride any discs going forward.

It's a story because it demonstrates that the received wisdom regarding the supposed superior performance of discs is not bought by the majority of medalists,possibly the majority of racers who started the Worlds.  Or that the performance is not sufficiently better to put up with the drawbacks of discs.  (not that they're necessarily the smartest folks in the world, but then again, the same could be written of disc brake proponents).  

Van Aert has stuck with cantilevers even though Colnago hasn't made a cantilever-equipped bike for a few years.  Nys can choose as well, and he chose canti's.  (even though we saw Powers on a cantilever-equipped bike earlier in the year, Focus doesn't seem to sell one)

In the women's race, De Jong and Mani were both on the old-tech, and for both, their bike sponsors don't even make their top bike with cantilevers (I don't think Giant makes a cantilever bike at all).  If you go through the pics, just as many seem to be on cantilevers, though Ridley, which sponsors two belgian teams, is one of the few companies that offers a choice for sale.

The conditions were exactly the kind we've been told where cantilever brakes on carbon rims suck and discs should dominate.

U23 men: first and third.  
U23 women: second and third
Junior men: first, second, third

I'm not a cross guy, but didn't I read that discs might initially be better in muddy/wet conditions but soon degenerate into crap because the pads wear out quickly?

Or could it just be that most people expected to do a lot of running and went for lighter weight? Those descents didn't seem particularly suited to braking of any kind that I noticed.

PS ...if Wout rode discs, does Mathieu 
VdP lose a foot?

There's also this thing that I heard once...and basically, even the big teams, maybe ESPECIALLY the big teams don't have the will/budget to change wheels. Or something like that.
