Cyclocross!

A quick update on SupercrossCup.

There had been some conflicting messages from the venue (Rockland Community College) about our ability to run a race there this year due to damage related to racing in last year’s stormy weather.

Myles met with RCC today and the 2019 SupercrossCup will take place at the community college as planned!

SupercrossCup is a Kissena event, and as such we will need your help to make this the great event that it has become.

I will soon be updating the volunteer sign up website   Volunteers who are racing should register to race and will be reimbursed after the race. Message me directly on Slack or through email if you are willing to help out more substantially. In the past, Kissena members have helped run podium, setup the course, help with early morning registration and other key positions. It would mean a lot if you pitched in.
I would definitely be down to help set up the course - it's always so rewarding to race on a course you helped build. That said, would definitely benefit if we could facilitate a car ride over to RCC on that Thurs / Fri (depending on when we set up).
Last call on a carpool to Hippo Cross on Saturday. I plan to leave home at 6:00AM (Northern Eastern Long Island), arrive Upper West Side to pick up @AnthonyOtt around 7:10AM, and hopefully arrive at the venue by 9:00AM. I have room for two more people and two bikes.

Please let me know, I can swing a bit out of the way, and/or adjust my time table but I do need to know ASAP. I am racing the Men Cat 4 and right after, the Men Cat 4/5 40+. Anthony is racing the Men Cat 3.
James and myself will see you guys there -- Jess is coming too, she'll go on a road ride while we race. Should be fun to have a Kissena compound!
Crappy day for me at Hippo CX today. Here are some pics of my teammates I took. Report and such will eventually follow, have another officiating gig at Merrick crit tomorrow to get ready for.

The volunteer sign up website for 2019 SupercrossCup is now LIVE. I will be asking members to pitch in in the coming weeks. We can use as much help as you are willing to give. If you think you can only put in one or two 3 hour shifts, then use this link. If you are willing to take on some additional responsibility and pitch in for a significant part of a day or more, message me directly. Thanks
@PatrickGrehan I signed up for the 8:00 AM 4/5 race Saturday morning and signed Nicholas up for the kids race at 1:30 PM. I am volunteering from 9 to 12. Do you have any tasks that my kids could help out with during the morning? They're really good at looking cute and causing trouble, but maybe there's something for them to do?
@PatrickGrehan If we can coordinate a team car ride on Friday before Supercross, I would like to help set up the course - what have we done in past years?
Who else is considering taking the Double Happiness bus from Chinatown to Bmore for Charm City Cross...

But seriously, anyone doing ProPower Cross on the 12th and have space or need to split a zip car?

@James Reeder I can drive you there.
Thanks @Thierry Bonnaire - coordinate on email? cjamesar@gmail.com

Finally my race report is done... better late then never:

@PatrickGrehan I registered for SuperCross, and I also signed up for a volunteer shift on Saturday.
I'm finally getting my feet wet at this thing called racing! I loosely followed Tim's 10 weeks cyclocross plan. Bike is tuned up.  Work schedule, kids soccer...seem to be compliant. I didn't do much bike handling but I'll have to deal with it.
I'd like to race:

- 10/20 Westwood
- 10/27 HPCX
- 11/3 Something?
- 11/16 or 11/17 Supercross
- 12/15 Rainey Park
- LICX whenever they will happen.

Super excited and kind of anxious as well. Does anybody have any word of wisdom or recommendation for better races?
@Remy Forgues - nice! Sounds like a good schedule. One thing to note - permits for Rainey this year haven't been attained yet, BUT they are aiming for November 23rd.

This is only my second season, but:
  • I'd say be sure to get to races early - maybe like an hour - hour and a half before your start time. That way you can warm up, stretch, get your numbers, pre-ride the course once or twice, etc...
  • Race day isn't the day to try new food, stick with tried and true.
  • Also, one thing I noticed for myself, if I stop immediately after the finish line, I get bad nausea that lasts for awhile. I always spin the bike lightly for 5-10 min after and haven't had any issues since.

Separately - does anyone have travel plans for getting to the Supercross volunteer set up? I signed up for the Friday mid-afternoon session.

Gonna jump in, because an hour or hour and a half is likely not enough time to do the things mentioned (warm up, strech, get numbers, pre-ride one or twice, etc)

Ah maybe I've just been moving efficiently, it's worked for me, but YMMV! Thanks for linking your post though.

Awesome list. Thanks!

Thanks for posting - I feel very good about my dismount, but my remounts are atrocious - just hasn't clicked yet.
Remounting is a very specific skill. It's the kind of stuff that make cross clinics so valuable if you can make the time.
I've signed up for Westwood (11:45am 40+ 4/5 race) - anyone going/carpooling/need to share a zip car?

Hi. I signed up for it as well. I can drive you there. I don't have a USA cycling License and Bikereg did not ask for a number. Does it mean I don't need any for that race?
You can get a one day license at the race. Actually you must have one to race road or cross. Some gravel races are unsanctioned and therefore don’t require a license.

If you are planning on racing this and next year you can sign up online and get a license pretty quickly. I’m not certain, but I think that your license fee would include both 2019 and 2020

Hi @Remy Forgues and @James Reeder  - do you have space for one more? We could definitely do a zipcar. My last race as a Cat 5 is at 1:50pm, if not too late.

Slash @eloy - if the above doesn't work and you're going, would be happy to coordinate

Thanks @Remy Forgues that would be great. Where are you driving from? I'm in Brooklyn/Bushwick. And @BrianStan where are you located? cjamesar@gmail.com

Hi James,

I'm driving from Queens, Jackson Heights. Let's discuss details. remfor79@gmail.com. Brian, I have extra space but the bike rack could be a problem. Email me as well so I can detail our options.
