For those of you used to going to cyclingdirt.org for post race interviews, they seem to have a new site (that I only found because of a tweet) with all the usual stuff:

I heard that cycling dirt let Clayton go. I'm wondering if they will still do who's number one and all his interviews now? 

Clayton tweeted, that he and the new corporate ownership had diff't visions of cyclingdirt should be, so he left.

A lot of the interviews, the New England stuff especially, has always been the work of a guy named Thom Parsons (who does a wicked good Christopher Walken impression, and a funny super New Englandy character he calls, "ultra enduro dude"). I saw him filming up in Northampton and his work is on the bigbikesmedia page I posted above.

Just read the announcement re: Staten entries going to be rolled into Super Cross. That means possibly 100+ starters in the cat 4s!? Yikes. I think we're going to need a longer/wider starting grid. Can we please stage racers by crossresults.com point rankings?

Bwahhhhhhhaaaaaa. After bum-rushing a car rental agency in Fort Lee last Friday with confirmation number in hand, and Mad Maxing his way out of town on 1/2 a tank of gas, Hotlist has returned from the great North where gas was plentiful and cheap, the beer was free and Jeremy Durrin's sausages worth the $5 JAM Fund donation.

There was a strong group of Kissenas representing NYC (for which they got some Richard Fries special edition shout-outs) who weren't afraid of getting stranded and car-jacked by Master Blaster, Pig Killer or Iron Bar on their way to Thunderdome, or the 22nd Annual Cycle Smart International. Unconfirmed rumor has it that once there, Derek and Joaquin shared a romantic weekend at an area B&B and went to a craft fair after their morning race on Saturday. But let's get to the list shall we?

1. Eric Ragot. Emerging from the warm, cozy confines of mid-atlantic racing, Ragot went to play with the big boys up in New England this weekend. Day 1 dude pops a spoke and gets grumpy at Hotlist for his awesome cheering, finishes 29th. Day 2 the good form continues and the bike holds up without a stop to the pits and he finishes in 25th after blowing apart his small group of riders on a particularly steep run-up. Crossresults give him more points for some of his earlier races this season, but given the course and the competition at Northampton (8 out of 10 of you would have been lapped by the likes of Alec Donahue and Brian Wilichowski) Ragman keeps his number one spot easily this week.
   
   
2. Joseph Mueller. Moving up one spot due to 2 weeks of Todd being out of action (unconfirmed rumor from anonymous sources have him locked up due to a contempt of court charge in a Piermont dungeon), is Mr. Stars and Stripes Panty Hose. It looks like the next time he's going to race is at SuperCross which means his irregular racing behind is going to be dumped from next week's hotlist.
   
   
3. Jules Roazen. Another DNS this week causing certain hyper-competitive Kissena's whose name rhymes with "Shark," to have a major case of disappointitis to have missed out on a chance to race against one of the team's top riders. Still, surviving on his HPCX 9th, and benefiting from Todd's 2 week absence, dude moves up.
   
   
4. Michael Perlberg. Hotlist is getting bored with this list. C'mon guys...are you allergic to racing 2 weekends in a row? Still Perlberg hasn't been out of action long enough to warrant the size 43.5 toe spiked MTB boot to the behind.
   
   
5. Jim Feehan. See above.
   
   
6. JP Partland. Okay so this was a tough one. Hotlist had been moving up guys straight up, so logic says that Joaquin should be this week's number six. This week, however the edge goes to skills over horsepower, and JP wins on that account.
   
   
7. Joaquin de Baca. If Joaquin would have cracked the top 20 this weekend, he would have owned number 6. As it was, a solid (but not spectacular), workmanlike weekend by our Cat 4s (as Jim Nelson pointed out, on day 2 they all finished within a minute of each other) where Joaquin was the top of the Kissena 4s on day 1. He keeps on the hotlist this week largely after a strong performance at HPCX that kept him getting lapped by the unstoppable force that is Roger Aspholm (where was Aspholm this weekend, I would love to see where he stacks up against NE's 35+ superstuds). Joaquin will have to sharpen his starts, because he's got a handful of other Cat 4s ready to knock him off his list, including Derek "I AM back" Chiles who was the team's top cat 4 finisher on Sunday.
   
   
8. David Stokes. Used all his energy keeping his wife warm in their "rustic" downtown apartment this weekend instead of racing. Hopefully, he'll be back in gear this weekend now that power is returning to the islands that Sandy knew.
   
   
9. Konrad Ratzman. Will never play the "how low can you go?" game with his fuel gauge again. Young man was stuck on "E" in NYC this weekend and didn't give himself a chance to follow up his 20th place at HPCX against the best 4s in the region.
   
   
10. The Other Cat 4 Killers. Honorable mention goes to the rest of the Cat 4s who escaped from NYC to race at the Cycle Smart International. This includes Jeffrey White (who felt solid and good about his performances, reporting that the course reminded him of "Whirlybird" in what it required of a racer), James Nelson, Derek Chiles (his Sunday startline performance kept him as high as 20th in the early going) and Marc Bertucco (2nd Kissena finisher on both days--thanks to some serious shouting from behind by Joaquin).

This weekend, the last before the big KCC show-down at Eisenhower Park, it sounds like we've got folks going to blow bubbles and such in New Jersey, with a few possibly going to this weekend's MAC race in Maryland. Fair warning...you bubble-bath takers, I expect big results at this smaller than usual event!

I'm in for bubble cross too. Cat C. Can I catch a ride with someone?

Quick Hotlist report from Fair Hill, MD where a handful of Kissena's competed in this weekend's MAC series race. Totally new course this year with lots of off-camber (the steepest I've seen yet...Aspholm handled it by coasting through with his inside foot unclipped), a few booby traps, a totally unnecessary railroad tie, some moderately terrifying whoopty-dos, and one really grueling long climb. You Granogue masochists would have enjoyed the course today.

Organizer gets points taken off for a crappy start where a sandy/rock section sneaks up on you just as you are taking a right-handed turn onto the grass. HUGE pile up in the Cat 2/3/4 race. No Kissena's down at least.

Jim Feehan and Dan Strika competed in the 45+ race. Hotlist didn't get a chance to talk to Dan, and Jim was well, very zen about his 20th or 21st placing. Not sure how he felt about the race. Not a chatty dude, and he clearly wasn't into Hotlist's prodding. Tried to encourage him to sign up for the KCC champs, but he put the kibosh on that idea. Then he rolled his two identical carbon fiber Stevens bikes to his car. Suhweet bikes. Sigh.

Hotlist entered a raffle (proceeds benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis fight) but unfortunately, did not have to use the back seat of his rental car to transport a Fuji frame home. Boo. Jamis had a tent set up with demo bikes, including a not-yet-imported carbon fiber, disk brake, and SRAM Apex equipped bike that they are going to sell for $2200. In the "lift the bike up" test of a 54cm bike, Hotlist judges that that bike was WAY too heavy for anything made of carbon fiber and anything costing $2200.

In the Cat 2/3/4 race, Todd McLoughlin and Marc Bertucco lined up for like 150 laps of torture. McLoughlin in the 2nd or 3rd row, Bertucco at the back of the grid. Major pile-up at the start and then it was game on for reals. Todd reports fading somewhat in the last two laps, but had an excellent race to finish 17th (heaps better than his crossresults.com predicted finish of 26th) place. Bertucco reports riding hard enough to the point where he considered just not racing at all on Sunday. He actually met his pre-race goal of just beating like 15 people, by finishing 34th out of 44 finishers and ahead of 5 DNFers. Hotlist thinks he better start setting more ambitious goals.

Gas report...plentiful and cheap in Joe Biden land. $3.39/gallon at Wawa. Maryland it was $3.45. On the turnpike, it was $3.61 with even/odd license plate restrictions north of Exit 7 only. Bertucco's rental Ford Fiesta returned 44.2 mpg average, while driving between 60-70 mph the whole time on the highway.
