FYI

The promoter from the Long Island cyclocross race at Kings Park psychiatric posted on Facebook that they are not running a race in December this year. So no Asylum race.

THEY ARE running a race at Sunken Meadow Park (also Long Island) on Thanksgiving weekend. It's not on bikereg yet, but if you want to get some local racing in after scarfing down some turkey and cranberries, this will be your race.

They at haven't provided details yet, but it sounds like it will be a two day event. The course at sunken meadow last year (after xmas) was fun. Sorta like HPCX with less steep climbing. Lots of slaloming between trees.
It is on BikeReg:

I've always wanted to race Thanksgiving weekend. I can't remember any local Thanksgiving weekend cross races, only a few in NE.

Odd thing is they are running a 50+ field on Saturday and a 45+ field on Sunday. I wonder why?

Awesome. So sensible.
JD's suggestion is along the lines of what I think could be a better prize money distribution.  Namely, adjust the payout to reflect the depth of the field.  It could save promoters from paying ten deep when the field is only 20 riders, but would increase as the field increases in size.

The only things against it are greed.  Some promoters might see large fields as money-makers and some racers might see big payouts in small fields as a reason to race.

HEY JEFF!!! You want my vote for president? How about some race reports...Marty and Crossasaurus Awesome please! Yeeesh.

Seriously. Dude has raced like 3x his all time volume this year.

But then again...

WHERE THE FUCK IS HOTLIST??!?!?!??

Hotlist was doing 12x1 minute intervals (because 10x1s apparently were not enough for his coach)...and they sucked.
this one for you, @Jeffrey White

Adam Myerson talks carry/suitcase technique:
"The primary mistake I see riders make, even the best riders, is lifting the bike with their elbow on the outside of their saddle, causing them to put their saddles directly into their armpits. This is bad for a myriad of reasons, easily correctable, and actually hugely important."
While there is a lot of specific detail in this article, I really could have boiled it down to one important point: keep your elbow on the inside when you suitcase. If you focus simply on that, the rest will follow.

Just sayin'

So it's Myerson against "the best riders" who disagree with him. I'll take that.
I'm actually surprised he didn't mention rider height because that seems to be a big factor in this - or the strategy of swinging your bike wide to avoid getting passed (kosher or not it's something people do)
saddle outside will cause a crash wake

^MAGNIFICENT!

I forget where/who it was...prolly Eloy in the video thread, but I saw an old-school video of a cross race that had a drum core...how amaze-balls would that be if we had a drumline kicking off our Elite races!
who is in for bubblecross? i just registered. been a string of no-luck weekends but hoping to finally get out and race cross on sunday

How is it that there are only 6 more CX races on my calendar this year? And I pretty much have to write off Supercross weekend because I'm typically exhausted from the working of that race weekend. That means 4 real opportunities left to leave it on the field. Crap.

I forgot to post these after HPCX -

I shot slo-mo video of Marc and Jim F riding the sand pit. The slo-mo is... well too slow, but I am not sure how to save it at "regular speed". Either way, you get to see their sand riding form and see a guy get bogged down behind Marc.

Marc:

Jim:

CX + beer + cowbell + free turkey leg for each racer = Swashbuckler Cross

Best new race I've done this year. Will def be back!
I've got room for another going to Bubble Cross tomorrow morning. Leaving Brooklyn 6:30. Back early afternoon. Anyone need a ride to an early race?

In between working on press releases for Supercross...there is this:

Jeff, how was Stoudt's Cross?

This is how @Jeffrey White finished at Stoudt's!

MAC team standings are up-to-date. We got points from most everyone racing at Whirlybird and as a consequence, we snuck in to the last scoring position for teams. With 1 additional point we're up to 15th. Which sounds a lot better when you see that there are 135 different teams listed in the competition.

This weekend is Fair Hill, a really nice race with a lot of interesting features, in Elkton, MD about 2.5 hours away from Northern Manhattan. Then the series finale on December 14th in near-ish-by Emmaus PA.
GCN is definitely upping the relevance of their videos

btw 1.3 bar == 19psi
Ha. I did. I'm struggling through the cold medicine today

Wow...well, I guess I rode 1.waytoomuch bar at Bubble = 30psi.

I don't know if anyone else had this experience, but I found myself breaking heading into the first sandpit after the start finish because too much speed was taking me out of the rut.

A couple of passes where I was feeling especially ballsy, I actually hit that stretch with so much speed that I didn't have to pedal at all through any of the sand. Made for an interesting moment or two as the path arced left, but in retrospect, lots of fun.
Anna Maria's Pretty Dammed Fast features "This Team Saves Lives" who provide some absolutely awesome tips, commentary, "what they learned" on racing cyclocross:

http://www.prettydamnedfast.com/blog/2015/11/1/this-team-saves-lives
  • "everyone in the starting grid is just as nervous as you are"
  • "Fear is by far the most unsafe obstacle out on the course."
  • "starting to really understand what it means to never give up... Even when that seems like the only option. "
  • "do your best to race for 30-45 minutes in a completely primal mindset"
Check it out.
