Sorry, got bored of that about 17 pages and 9 videos in...

She swam the final 100m faster than Lochte?

Rant on...
Anybody know when the track events will be screened during the Olympics?

I know the US has very little chance to win anything but I do love me the Keirin and the Madison events.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/olympic-road-race-spectacle-or-disaster Some of the less public challenges of the road race - overwhelming crowds, and difficulties w team cars for riders used to left-side steering. And then there's this gem: "It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen," said German Andrè Greipel. "There was not a single spot to pee."

Given China's doping history, it is hard to be anything but suspect. I think it would be the equivalent of USPS reforming as a squad and destroying the grand tours at will.

When I was in college in the early 90's there was a good story from some of our women swimmers from when we had some visiting Chinese swimmers.

There was some construction underway in the women's changing rooms that year.  One day as the Canadian girls finished practice they headed to the showers.  They turned back though and complained to the coach because they heard men's voices from inside and assumed the construction was running late... nope, it was the Chinese women's team.
Oh.Your.God.

Where did they get these Nick Nolte mugshots?!?

Phinney with two 4th place finishes. Wow.... probably the worst spot you can finish in.

I wonder how he feels.

Probably like he's been kicked in the balls.

Whatever Sky is on, it sure seems to work.
It should be interesting to see how Froome matches up to Contador in the Vuelta.
I would imagine riding the dauphine, tour and olympics on peak would get stale at some point during the vuelta, OTOH how quickly can contador get into form...
What d-bag writing:

"Federica Pellegrini of Italy, who won the gold in the 200 in Beijing and silver in the event in Athens in 2004, was fifth. Pellegrini has had a forgettable Olympics; she also finished fifth in the 400 freestyle."

my god these are horrid!

thought, in Chavanel's defense, if there's any shirt you wanted to be arrested in while masturbating at a public theater . . . he's wearing it
It's like a Smoking Gun web page where the photos were taken with a 90's era cell phone at 3am after a surprise police bust of a rave-gone-wrong.  A veritable treasure trove for the mean spirited....

guy second from the left . . . isn't that Farrar's leadout man?

Interesting: "Tim Kerrison has been a hugely influential figure behind the scenes for Wiggins for 18 months now.

As well as changing his conditioning programme for the Tour, the Australian sports scientist has taken a fresh look at Wiggins’s time-trial technique and made one or two radical changes.

Wiggins, with his track pursuiting background, is a natural time-trial rider who has has an innate ability to pace his effort, but that comprehensive world championships defeat against Martin in Denmark suggested something was not quite right.

Kerrison booted up his computer, did the maths and concluded that Wiggins’s cadence, sometimes in excess of 105rpm, was too high and not all of that power from one of the biggest engines in cycling was getting transmitted through to the bike.

This year Wiggins has dropped the cadence slightly and rides in a higher gear.

“Without boring you too much with the technicalities I averaged 456 watts for 55 minutes at the Worlds last year against Tony and still finished 1min 20sec behind."

Wonder what he stomped out today?

I'm more interested what his pharmacologist has to say...
I think this is his pharmacologist 2nd from right.

Here he is working on some pesky reticulocytes:

456 W for 55 minutes. That's world class folks.
According to Andy Coggan in 2006, the best of world-class w/kg is 6.4.  Take that 456w and divide it by 6.4, and come up with 71.25kg or 156.75lbs.

His Team Sky and Wikipedia page says his weight is 69kg or 150lbs, which puts his effort at 6.61w/kg.  I've found that team websites traffic in magic when it comes to listing rider weights.

Oh, this was fun. Using current weight and race data:

5s of  at Cat 4 (barely)
1min of a Cat 4
5min of a Cat 1
20min of a Cat 2

W/kg, bro
All those Sky guys did really well. Odd..... I especially enjoyed Wiggles getting all fussy with the media after the race. Even vino (not that I enjoyed him winning) faced the music with more composure after immediately getting asked about doping after getting the gold.

Oh, another dumb thing Wiggles said:

So he's not "calling" for helmets to be made mandatory, but he supports the idea that it would be illegal to not wear one.....I'm really starting to not like the guy.  Bring back Cuddles!
I believe the 6.4 number has been pretty roundly destroyed as a 1 hour effort - nobody has been able to do that since armstrong/pantani days.

regardless of the watts, the season-long-form should be a pretty red flag

This stuff is trainable dude. I was cat 5 for everything under a minute a few years ago, but cat 2 for the long stuff. I'm between high cat 2 and DIII UCI now for all levels according to that chart. (by the way, I think that chart is seriously generous, no way my sprint is cat 2 level)

For you, basically it means your longer efforts need to go into maintenance mode and you need to focus on building the fast twitch muscular skills needed to hit the high efforts. Train your weakness.
Vlad, I think it looks like your profile matches your training. You race, race, race, at FBF where you gotta mash for sustained periods of time, so you're strong like bull in that capacity.

But to train the 1 min and under you have to get out for intervals where you suffer and rest totally over and over.

My 3 min and under improved dramatically this spring when I did lots of 6 x 3 min efforts.
Yep, looking forward to hitting it hard in the off-season.
Hit it hard on Saturday. And in the season as well.
