Hey guys

4 days ago I was bit by a dog in jersey. He punctured my skin and the area is reddish, though no puffiness/ the slight pain is going away. the guys said the dog is up on all his vaccines

Today I woke up with a major headache, fatigue, very slight fever ( it could be normal for me for all I know) chest pressure and just overall weakness.

WebMD didn't help much as it never does (according to it I should seek immideate emergency care or else) should I do anything about this? I don't have insurance so it's not as easy as just calling up my doctor. I have the guys info but would prefer not to get involved in all of that shit.

Anything I should look for? It might just be a cold due to me not being used to all the germs in the real world (Appalachian trail hikers gets sick all the time after leaving the woods)

Gouverneur Hospital (LES) has all sorts of rates for indigent and unemployed people. It might even be free for you. You're supposed to live within a certain area, but I got away with it by first going to Judson Health Center on Spring St. and just bringing in proof of income (lack thereof).

I dunno, the chest pressure thing is bothersome. People always say their dog has all it's shots, but not only is that not always the case, "all" doesn't mean it's a totally clean animal. There are things they can opt out of not vaccinating for, and things that they just can't, that the dog may have in it's mouth/system. All sorts of fun bacteria.

Anyway, I know you don't wanna get the guy involved, but it seems necessary. Especially since you don't wanna be out the $ for a doctor visit. And if it turns out that you caught something from the bite, it's crucial that the animal control authorities (and the owner) know about it.

Do you have anyone around watching you? If the chest pressure gets worse, I'd go to the ER, dude. Don't go to sleep and not wake up. You just got back to our beautiful hamlet!

Sometimes when I'm roughhousing with my dog he breaks skin, and it basically always turns red and gets puffy. He is up on his shots. I have never experienced those other symptoms, though. If you took the dog bite out of the equation, how worried would you be?

Woj...I wouldn't mess around with this one. Whether or not the dog was "up to date" on his shots, you have the classic signs of an infection and should be treated with antibiotics and a tetanus shot (if you haven't had on in the last 8 or so years).

Also chest pain is never a good thing. Worst case scenario, the infection spread from the bite site to the pericardium (the sack that surrounds your heart) and that is now inflamed causing your chest pain.

Or you could go to any Emergency Room who will HAVE to treat you, and then ignore the enormous bill you get. Also, if you are bit by a dog, the MDs/nurses are REQUIRED to ask you for information about the dog/owner so the city can follow up.

fyi, rabies and such mostly a problem with the cities rodent population, not so much the pooches.

Still, get it checked out sooner than later, okay?

If it wasn't for the dog bite I would be much less concerned.

As far as treatment goes I don't mind going to the hospital as the guy would have to cover it, I just don't want them to tell me its nothing, charge me and send me home

Marc, the actual bite area shows no signs of infection though, if anything it looks like it's healing

I spoke with a good buddy of mine (Doctor) and he said that unfortunately it could be a whole host of things. No way for Jules' wife or anybody else to really know unless you have full blood-work done. If i would be you, i would not wait for it to get worse, you lose very little by hitting up a Doc tomorrow morning. I really hope you feel better & it all goes away tomorrow. Keep us all updated man. Hey guys

I went to the ER today after the fever got to 104 and nothing was bringing it down

They looked at the bite, contacted the owner but said that it's most like coincidental.

Diagnosed with Pharyngitis, took a culture sample & gave me a tetanus shot

Got some penicillin based antibiotics (apparently I'm not allergic) and was told to rest.

Kind of killed my plans to race thursday but oh well

Nu-skateboarders are one of the most terrifying thing I encounter on my daily commute. Especially the ones practicing their tricks in the bike lane going the wrong way, and inevitably failing. I actually smashed headfirst into one on the Williamsburg bridge when he blew his ollie, board shoots out, he stumbles into me on the descent. I wasn't going fast, but I was much bigger and more or less won the nose vs teeth battle, with the guy breaking two in half and my nose just being slightly broken (again, which explains it's, uh, character) with a mild concussion. Haha. I won. Sort of.
