Twenty six of the 56 members voted. The contested position of Development chair was won by newcomer, Greg Hoge. Congratulations Greg.
Don't forget to thank the outgoing board members for their contributions this past year (and for Eloy and Matt, many years). Being on the board is a labor of love and does not come with perks other than feeling good about having supported the club and its members. More work goes behind the scenes than most members are aware of.
The outgoing members are Matt Budofsky, Adam Yaffe, Eloy Anzola, James Reeder, and Michael Cumming. Thank you all

Nominations for the 2023 Board are officially open!
We are doing things a bit different this year. Rather than running for only one position, we will elect our board based on those folks who get the top votes overall, and then finalize positions as an e-board. This provides us a bit more flexibility for both nominees as well as the club.Nominations are Due by Nov 17th!
In your nomination include: Name, How long you've been a member, why you would be a good fit for the board, and your two preferred positions on the board. We promise you will get one of those two positions! If you are firm on only being elected for one position, only add one position in your nomination. Here are the positions on the board and their roles/responsibilities:
- President: The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Club and shall represent, or assign a Member to represent, the Club to all outside parties, shall ensure that the agenda at all membership and Board of Directors meetings is carried out, and shall ensure that other elected Officers are pursuing the duties of their respective offices.
- Vice President: The Vice President is responsible for the organization of the annual elections. In addition the Vice President shall be responsible for the risk management policies and procedures of the club. The Vice President shall preside over any board meeting and assume the regular duties of the President where the President is unable or incapacitated.
- Secretary: The Secretary shall give notice of and attend Club membership meetings and Board of Directors meetings; shall keep a record of such proceedings; shall maintain a record of Club policies; and shall provide a copy of the current bylaws, policies, or any minutes upon request by any Member.
- Treasurer: The Treasurer shall keep an account of all moneys received and expended by and for the Club; shall make disbursements authorized by the Board of Directors; shall present a written report of the financial condition of the Club to the Board as of the last business day of each fiscal quarter; and shall render a complete statement of the Club’s financial condition and inventory of property as of December 31 of each year to the Board and, once approved by the Board, for communication to the Members.
- Sponsorship Director: The Sponsorship Director shall pursue sponsorships beneficial to the club, act as the primary representative of the club for such efforts, draft sponsorship agreements, provide executed copies of such agreements to the secretary, and communicate to members sponsorship program details.
- Public Relations Director: The Public Relations Director shall represent the club to media, government and other entities such as parks, community boards or law enforcement as required, manage all social media presences and relationships, make statements on behalf of the club and respond to formal enquires as from such organizations/entities. Keep a record of all public statements and provide that record to the secretary quarterly.
- Membership Director: The Membership Director shall recruit new riders and mentors to join the Club, manage a database of current and past Club members, collect annual waivers, manage all communications to current and prospective Club members, manage clothing orders, ensure membership communications are fairly distributed and equally accessible to all Members in good standing, and maintain a current roster of riders with appropriate cycling organizations, including, but not limited to, the USAC and NYSBRA.
- Technology Director: The Technology Director shall be responsible for the development and maintenance all of the Club’s digital infrastructure including providing a current, comprehensive and accessible inventory of all digital assets and relevant login, billing, and registration information, and shall advise the Board of Directors as needed on technology issues.

All of the Development Director’s duties shall be undertaken with the goals of promoting fairplay and without tolerance for doping or other forms of cheating.
Hi I'm Dave Yang, current VP and member since 2013 and would love to be back in the board for 2024. I found the club after 4 years of racing and riding on my own and never looked back. You know me as the slowest person in the group ride who swears he is going to train more for next race season. I'm also super passionate about Kissena Cycling, NYC bike culture and community and bicycle culture in general. I'm happy to reprise my role as VP, but have also served as the treasurer for 2 years in the past and open to serving any other position needed.
I've been a cyclist for the past 15 years or so. This last year on the Kissena Board has been wonderful and has exposed me to much of what it takes to keep all this running.
Unfortunately, this coming year won't grant me enough time to return to the Membership Director role. But I'm still throwing my hat in for your consideration as the future Treasurer or Development Director.
I know that a lot of people including myself appreciate the inclusive and social nature of Kissena and the opportunity to share our love of everything bikes with each other. Kissena is a volunteer run organization as a result really needs members to pitch in.
I strongly encouraged you to throw you hat in the ring to run for a position - or at the very least offer to help lead some rides or organize a local social event. It isn't sustainable if too much falls on the shoulders of a small number of people
Would love to be in the board as public relations director. Open to discuss any other needs, especially if not all positions are filled.
Most of you know me, still, quickly ish, been in Kissena since 2003 (where did the time go) over the years I’ve been president, sponsorship, development, and public relations officer. Today I represent Kissena and cycling interests at the Prospect Park Alliance, and mostly, as mentioned above, just wanna ride with friends and share the love for bikes and looking sharp.
Like Patrick, I encourage you to volunteer for a board position, lets move the club forward into the future. It’ll be fun!
I’m been with the KCC for a while now , happy to offer my time for the board ,Jim is stepping down , so I’m hoping to be considered for Treasurer , assuming this position requires no knowledge of power meters
Kissena Fam!
2024 is winding down and that means one thing: Board elections are coming! Have you wanted to get more involved with the club? Maybe you have great ideas about training, are a social media guru, or think the kit needs more orange. Well now is your opportunity - fill out this form: https://kissenacycling.wufoo.com/forms/zno8tkw0gq0jhg/
We (the Board) are looking for a few members to help fill the roles for next year. Here's a quick description of each role and what it entails.
President - Lead the club and set objectives for the year. You'll be the one responsible for evaluating what the club needs to grow and flourish for years to come.
Vice President - You're a jack-of-all-trades. You want to dabble and help out where ever you're needed. Whether that's leading a ride, making a social media post, or being the comic relief, you're the go to person.
Treasure - You like money. Or you at least are good at keeping track of it and making sure we operate within our means.
Development Director - You don't need to be the fastest person on a bike for this, but you should enjoy training. We're seeing this role as more of a hype-man/woman than a coach.
Membership Director - You love talking about Kissena and want to share the joy and excitement that the club brings to your life.
PR/Social Media - Social media is your jam and you enjoy building a brand. Or you just know how to build following.
Secretary - You are good at taking meeting notes and keeping everyone in the club informed with regular meeting minutes and newsletters.
If you're interested in running for any of these roles, just fill out this form and we'll put you on the ballot. The election will take place in mid-December and new Board members will begin their role in January with the help of the current Board member. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the current board members!
Greg Hoge
2024 President
