Ok I *still* have my 6pm spot this Wednesday on offer. I'll be back in January. Also, I live a few blocks away and folks are welcome to shower after at my place if need be.
Swarmi style Ragot by a hair over Jeff A (average 204W!?) on a specially designed Kissena all uphill thigh burning course. Meredith's first ride, congrats. image
Yeah, 204W average is right. The kid weighs 130lbs. Make no mistake, that's exactly why math sucks.

Second sesh involved Stokes towing me all the way up Mt. Barouh. Like the complete d-bag that I am, I pipped him at the line. I would like to say that my right leg was fully (top and bottom) cramped from the last green line to the finish. That by no means makes me any less of a d-bag.

My apologies for the blurry picture of the first session. For some reason o was shaking a bit from towing people around and attacking repeatedly at the end. And then attacking Jeff too early. Ouch it hurt to pip him.
I'm putting together a two-hour session at the Park Slope Ride Brooklyn at 12:30 Saturday (so you'd have to be there by 12-12:15 to set up and warm up).

We have two spots left. Aaron gets first right of refusal on one of them, so unless he can't do it, there's only one left. Get it while it's hot!

$25
@Whitey - If no one else has claimed it, I'll grab the last spot.
Dave, you got it.
Sweet thanks.  I'll show up with cashmoney and hairy legs.
I'll take Aaron's spot if it is still available.
@dstokes - you're in.
If anybody cant make it today at the last minute, i'll take their spot
First computrainer ride. Lots of fun. Dropped by Konrad and Jeff halfway through. I tried to get back up to Jeff in the last two miles but he dropped the hammer and I ultimately lost a minute. Thierry had a nice dig at the end trying to catch Stokes.
You know  how I like to harp on calibration?
I compared average power during my last two computrainer rides. Powertap wheel says that they are within 2 watts of each other (yesterday the lower of the two). The computrainer data (from two different positions in the array) indicate a difference of 26 watts! One was higher and one was lower That corresponds to a discrepancy between the computrainer of 12%.
Ros' spot is available for Wednesday (tomorrow) at 7:30.
Everyone remember we're back on tomorrow!
I'll take Ros's spot.
@Dale, it's yours!
Damn I was just about to post for it! Haha. How long do the sessions usually last and how much is it?
Aaron, all that info is on this thread. Scroll back a ways.
Thanks Ros.  How does the money work? Want me to just bring it by your house?
@Dale, it's cool, next time I'll see you I'll just grab $20 bucks from you. No rush.
Rudostadt son. Boosh!

... also this

@stokes - calibration was way off tonight. Computrainer had me at 250 for the hour. That's a fairly routine tempo effort for me so I was wondering why I was feeling bad. My Quarq had me at 267. 17 watts over an hour is a big difference!

(And I'm not even going to ask why 30 lbs less and 3 watts more leaves me 8 min behind Vlad. "Not normal!")
The answer to the question you're not asking would likely be because you suck.

You got's to calibra-tuh! It's fundamental.

My Stages power meter was on point by the way, for both sessions.

Well, congratulations on your big night, Spanky.
Maybe it was very windy! It is not clear to me whether the power numbers displayed are 'adjusted' in some way (for weight, draft, good knows what else). Or whether those are the raw numbers prior to the adjustment that must go on to determine relative speeds of the players.
I'm just saying that something doesn't add up (from last year).

I've always thought it was basically a strength / to  weight power contest w/ some sort of adjustments for the drafting. But I don't think the calculations are real complex.

It's definitely not road like conditions. For example - Ragot can nearly ALWAYS ride me off his wheel in a 1-2 minute effort on the road. But not usually so on the computrainer. By that same token, I can pretty much always separate from guys who weigh 30 lbs more than me on an 8% grade pretty darn quickly - also not so on the computrainer.
Those are old and heavily used machines. It's silly to expect accuracy or a realistic experience from them. While proper calibration has yielded better power estimates, I've always relied on my personal power meter for that data. Really, what you're getting is a best effort antiquated video game experience... like Zaxxon - looks cool but ultimately sucks and is in no way anything like flying an actual spaceship.

My guess is that something went screwy the speed sensor/algorithm on my computrainer. The wattage and W/kg stuff was spot on, but I was going much faster than everyone else at certain unpredictable times.

Can we stop expecting perfect results from these things? Have they ever really worked?
