Years ago a pro-ish rider offered me sodium bicarb-ish stuff before a race. I declined because I had no idea what I was about to take. Probably should have taken it and would be an old pro about to retire now.

@mugwump it does sound a bit fishy, you have to rely on the word of the pharmacist and the testing that revealed the contamination. Wouldn't it be great if evidence in doping cases was made public?

I have a neighor who is a running coach. She was at the National Club Cross Country Championships on Saturday. I asked if there was drug testing.
She said she didn't know. I told her that it probably means there isn't any.
Does this mean that USATF is less interested in catching dopers than USAC?

Not only hasn't cycling eradicated cheating (far from it) but it's made itself into the poster boy for dirty sport, which is probably not fair.

Oh the article is journalistic schwill...I'll give you that. I wouldn't be surprised if the uni-baller himself paid the author. Articles like these should be read. When you are right about something, the counter points fall away under scrutiny. The "everyone else was doing it" argument is a pitiful defense an admission of guilt and shows an utter lack of contrition. That is the only card LA has left to play. If he would be willing to settle his case with the gov't, admit to everything, including doping for the comeback, and write a huge check from his ill-gotten gains fund to support anti-doping...I would consider not thinking of him as a complete douche.

I hate to say it but I think he's right - the charity argument is a strong one.
He was the biggest a-hole, and the biggest (well one of them) beneficiary.
He is a deserving target, and this town loves a villain. Plenty of other guys had their hands in cookie jar, and plenty of them somehow come out of this clean.
I thought the reporter gave him a harder time than most.
What's incredible to me is that it's *only* been two years. Feels like forever ago.
