I see that once upon a time we had "pro deals" on food products--2007 or so. I'm hungry for some Accelerade and was wondering if we still have them as a sponsor?

I have one question about the CycleOps discount through Wheelbuilder: Rich told me CycleOps had told him that our rebate was 35%, not 45%. I thought the discount was the same (for the PowerTap) from CycleOps or through Wheelbuilder. Has anyone ordered from Wheelbuider this year? (Applying this 35% discount, Rich sells the Powertap SL for $1,121 with a HED Bastogne and $1,578 with a Reynolds Assault.

Our discount from Cyclops through CycleOps is definitely 45%.
Maybe it used to be less and Wheelbuilder hasn't gotten the memo?
I was planning on placing an order with Wheelbuilder in the next couple weeks but haven't looked into it yet; I would be slightly dissuaded if the discount is less with Wheelbuilder than through CycleOps.

Rich answer: Yes your club is grandfathered in at the higher discount.  We offer 15% off all parts and 40% off on the powertap, which brings your total to $1053.28.  (My comment : that's for the HED Bastogne with the SL Powertap, previous quote $1,121).

Having banged my helmet pretty hard last weekend, I'm shopping for new headgear.

Has anybody bought a Rudy helmet lately? We certainly get a good discount on them.

The Sterling looks nice and I was about to pull the trigger but then I noticed that it seems these helmets run a little heavy compared to other brands.

I'm not a weight freak thinking about my w/kg or anything like that - just that extra weight on the head might actually be noticeable.

Any reviews would be much appreciated.

I like the Rudy Project helmet and sun glasses I just got. The helmet fits well and is comfortable, also the removable lunch lady hair netting is actually convenient to clean out to keep it from getting the nasty smell. The adjustment mechanism provides a nice snug fit. I like it better than the expensive Giro I had a few years ago, and even better than the cheaper Giro i was wearing last season.

I believe my helmet is the "sterling".

I like the Rudy project helmets, I own two and both are awesome. The actyum is awesome, and the fit is really nice, it may be heavier but you only notice that on super long rides. The Kontact+ is nice too.

I would say just about any of the Rudy helmets are great. You can't beat the price with a huge discount that Kissena riders receive.

I have a Kontact and a Sterling. Both are good helmets. The weight isn't bad on either of them. Price is great. The only caveat I ought to mention is that some of the plastic strap clamping parts on my Sterling broke within a few weeks. This is an issue that Rudy Project has acknowledged. It isn't a safety concern--just an annoyance. Rudy Project customer service was very good, making the fix quickly and without charge.
I have had no issues at all with the (cheaper) Kontact which I have used for 3+ years now other than that it's beginning to smell : )

Sorry it took me so long to respond but I didn't check the forum in a while. See my post from Feb. 14 above. You need to email sponsorship@cycleops.com to get a discount code so you can order directly from CycleOps. When emailing for a discount code, make sure that you mention Kissena in the subject line and email body.

Has anyone bought anything from Saris this year through the sponsorship program? If so, I'd like to know if it went smoothly. Did you have to wait long to get the discount codes, etc?

We don't currently have a pedal sponsor. We do get a discount through our shop sponsorship with Brickwell cycles. I believe it is a 15% discount on retail, and get the pedals you're in love with.

What is the deal with lake Shoes, what discount do we get with them if any? And, related to that: anyone got any suggestions for racing bike shoes? I'm not really ken on spending more than $100 as I have to get in to NYC from Long Island to race on my bike. This start/stop commute is not nice for expensive, carbon-entwined racing slippers!

We get Lake shoes through Veltec the distributor of Lake and Descente. We do a couple orders per year through them. Usually announced on the board as a Veltec order. We did one in March/April that is arriving in two parts, because there were inventory issues with having all the sizes and styles we wanted in stock. Some people have gotten theirs, and others are still waiting.

As for the styles to buy. I would look into what the shoes that don't have the super expensive carbon soles, and maybe even look into adding your own extra rubber bits to the sole for a little extra grip/protection.

not sure who handles the Neuvation these days...but I have 3 pairs of their hoops. R-28 sl M-28 sl and C50 tubulars. All are good. I have broken a spoke in 3 of 4 of the aluminum clinchers. But after replacing the spoke and retensioning...they have been fine for thousands of miles now. Might be just part of the break in on low spoke count wheels but they ship with 4 spokes and nipples each. The hubs are good quality and easy to pull apart and grease. The carbon wheels are great...but race day only as a full carbon braking surface will not last long on dirty training rides.
The R28's with some latex tubes and Vittoria open tubular clincher tires ride almost as well as full tubies. The tires wear fast but the ride quality is worht every penny. Good luck....yacks
