Yes, the bolt looks really cute and pretty great

Perhaps is shinny new thing syndrome, but seems more attractive than a Garmin 520
[edit] Garmin needs to get their ass kicked.

Wahoo just took down Computrainer....Maybe Garmin is next ???
Just to revisit the Racermate claim that "the physics in the Computrainer was too complicated for wireless transmission."  So complicated in fact that ONLY the super computing POWER of the NES could handle it...and look these guys are wearing helmets...sooo forward thinking for 1990

If it's really only 2 weeks, I'd try and return it. Go buy a G520
Left my Garmin Edge 820 in a Zipcar after Grants Tomb – gone :(

Was watching the D.C. rainmaker vid of the G520 about to say eh, idk, I think I still like the Edge 820… and then I saw that the Wahoo is practically half the price :dizzy:
Cross posting from training thread…

As I mentioned above, I recently lost my Garmin Edge 820, which is what I have used for following workouts – essentially the way it would go is I would look at Tim's prescribed workout on the Training Peaks app on my phone, and then program the workout into my Edge 820. When training in the park it gives you the live cues and shows whatever measurement you've picked (power/HR) – when indoors, it automatically adjusts the Kickr to meet the desired power output for the interval.

My question is twofold, as I consider what I cam going to replace my lost Edge 820 with:

1. is there any way to automatically export Tim's workouts from Training Peaks to a head unit for both indoor/outdoor training? I.e. so I don't have to manually program the workout every day
2. those who have a Kickr and follow Tim's workouts on Training Peaks – how do you go about it?

Until I replace my head unit, I've signed up for Trainer Road as it seems like the easiest platform that I could program Tim's workout in, and then use my phone to control the Kickr.
You can build workouts in TP and export in .Fit format...The feature was added Q4 of 2016
@JohnOlsson just discovered that! What do you load yours into? I'm so taken with Trainer Road's iOS interface (I'm used to an Edge 820 so I guess the bar was set pretty low) that I may use if for training instead of an actual head unit - even in the park. Especially if I can get a Stages PM with Bluetooth :D
Hey....anybody know what spin bike to buy for doing those indoor group rides via the internet??? it's my chiropractor asking....told her about Zwift and smart trainers but she was not having it

I plug my 820 directly into my laptop via usb & drop the exported .fit files to the "new files" garmin folder that shows up in windows explorer / apple finder. No auto-sync function yet i don't think, we should keep pestering TP folks until they add the feature haha

also, did the Garmin "Training Calendar" seem extra useless to you? I bet thats for exporting workouts from garmin connect. I

also tend to exclusively use the "Workouts" section after hitting the main training button on the home screen. Have you ever messed around with setting targets @BenFinoRadin
John,

There is another way. Training Peaks allows the coach to build these workouts (ahem, @TimCusick) and you can download directly via any of the following four formats (see below)

I like to use Trainer Road (another 8 bucks a month) but I can drag and drop the file directly into Trainer Road and do my prescribed workout from my phone.

As for the 800 series you can get away with a much smaller computer like a 520 - that will automatically upload your workouts (via your phone) when you're done, and even push text messages to your bike computer if you like that sort of thing.

One caveat I've been struggling with is that full on VO2 Max efforts are murder if you've pre-programmed the wattage because once you begin to fade hard it's game over man...

PS Yang got his garmin back months later because it had his name on it in sharpie.
to do tim's workouts i make the workout in either zwift or in trainingpeaks, then export as zwo, run it in zwift.  i do them on my kickr.  for short intervals i edit the .zwo file in notepad++ because zwift & trainingpeaks dont have the friendliest of interfaces for small intervals like the 12 second on, 24 second off that Tim has done in the past

if you're in the market for a new bike computer, Wahoo devices currently do not support workoutswhen I'm on the road the only workouts i do are by remembering the actual workout and trying to do it.  unlike garmin, there is not currently a "beep at me if my power isn't x" feature on the wahoo. you have to do the beeping yourself.

however, wahoo updates their firmware like a modern startup and they have a history of adding significant features with firmware updates.  when released, the elemnt didn't have turn by turn directions, now it does, < 1 year later
Allegedly there is a way to edit Trainer Road files to include text prompts. That would be the shinizzle.
You kids with your fancy technology.

I have a Garmin 500 and, in the park, when the workouts are complicated, I write them down on a 3x5 card which slowly disintegrates into a sweaty pile of goo.

I also have a post-it note stuck to the back of my phone to remind me to pick up soy milk on the way home.

I take a picture (screenshot) of the workout and set it to my lock screen photo.
You know what would be "Sweet"
If you could play Candy Crush on your bike computer....

Let's see...I got speed, power, heart rate & cadence = I gots all my ADD can handle

I was honestly considering the Wahoo bolt, but their lack of support for workouts was a deal breaker.

So far, I've only build workouts with Garmin Connect, but once I need to add new workouts I'll try Peaks.

Garmin is good at beeping at the right times, specially useful for short intervals -- like microburts, for example, where I set it to beep every 15 seconds 40 times (10 minutes worth)

For longer intervals, I tried setting the garmin for beeping when I am above or below the power target, but found looking at the avg power and 3 seconds avg power better for me.

YMWV.

One caveat I've been struggling with is that full on VO2 Max efforts are murder if you've pre-programmed the wattage because once you begin to fade hard it's game over man...
So far this is my fav feature of trainer road…

Easy to tweak power up/down on the fly if needed
Looking for some Ride with GPS  / garmin assistance.  My brother has sent me .kml's of our biking route in taiwan and I want to get them uploaded.  is there an easy way to do this, or a forum one can point me to?

there are lots of online .kml to gpx converters out there

this one seems pretty legit: https://kml2gpx.com/
Anyone fancy a $1,000+ pair of hollow derailleur pulleys 3D printed from titanium powder? Does the friction typically generated by this component create enough of a power suck to warrant the expense?

I'm nearly positive that even according to the Friction Facts guy, who got bought out by CeramicSpeed, has said that an ultrasonic cleaning and wax treatment regimen for your chain can save as many watts as the rest of a drivetrain's efficiencies *combined*.

No.

There are plenty of ceramic-bearing pulleys that are pretty cheap and take away most of the friction of this component.  And you can get pretty close to removing the rest by keeping your chain clean as Yang suggests.

FWIW, I recommend the Tacx ceramic bearing pulleys.

That written, if you have a bottomless bank account, sure, why not spend the grand?
for shits and giggles....what is the oldest component currently on your bike?
Looking at mine...10 years on the original SRAM brifters

An iscaselle tornado saddle from the early '80s
Oohh nice....bet that thing has some stories to tell
Looking across my quiver,
my 'cross clinchers have an early '80s Campy nuovo record front hub.

In terms or daily use,  A Mavic 501 front hub, purchased in 1990, is still going strong.  I think I'm on my third set of cartridge bearings.

i'm the oldest component on my bicycle, haw haw haw

actually i think my headset top bearing is. original 2012 bearing!  i think the top bearing sees very little activity or impact compared to the lower headset bearing. quite an infant compared to the veteran parts you guys have managed to keep up and running.  mr. ellis, your saddle was born before I was!
