Is it even possible to purchase "old school" speedplay pedals that do not have the plastic "aero" covers? I'm only finding weird oem stuff online

I doubt it.  All the same, the aero cleat is much better.  You no longer have to worry about wearing off the Philips-head cleat bolts.  And they don't damage hardwood floors.

then again, the weight penalty is about 20g or so.  that could kill your chance of climbing to victory.

i ask because i just replaced mine and didnt screw them in tight enough. Then i bent the metal trying to peel the rubber back to get at the screws.

I just pulled the trigger on the 520 Plus.  I'll be retiring an Edge 510 that was produced for a hot minute between the 500 and 520. 

I just retired my old 520 for a 530.

Anyone have any experience with cameras on bikes? I've been thinking about a dashcam sort of setup for a while now and currently have the time to get it together. Camera recommendations (low-budget options ideally), mounting tips (specifically alongside wahoo computers), and other topics are all welcome!

Three good alternatives are gopros with chest, helmet or out-front-of-bars mounts.

The issue with most of these cameras is battery life.

Check out youtube for shot-styles you like. Bar mounted cameras pick up the gear shifts pretty dramatically on non electronic shifting rigs.

I bought a GoPro Hero7 White in January from Amazon. $150. Came with a case and mount compatible with Garmin quarter turn. Also bought a chest harness. Mounts arent expensive.
I used it for my recent ride at Glacier Ridge. 
You can get away with mounting it on your handlebar if riding road but there will be vibration noise.

Cool! I'm still trying to figure out the minimum specs I'll need. It'll essentially be just a dashcam for commuting as an archive in case anything should happen. Because of that I'm not sure I need the utmost picture and stabilization, as long as the angle is wide enough and clear enough to make out larger objects. There seems to be a $60-$80 range of off-brand stuff out there and then a $100-$150 range that starts to include GoPros and I'm trying to figure out how much the brand name is affecting that pricing.

For comparison, look at the specs of the Cycliq Fly 12 (front) and fly 6 (rear). I use the older models on my commuter. 

I just bought the Fly 6 for safety (was buzzed by a car riding a month ago and my wife was in a hit n run early March).  The battery isn't as long as I'd like but my hope is it'll provide data if something negative should happen again.

Go back to cantis and you can have it all: brake shudder, gunk buildup, and finicky setup.

Run through the usual.  Torque all the bolts properly--thru-axle, rotor, caliper.  Adjust headset.  Make sure wheel bearings aren't loose.

Is the shudder a pulsing?  Is there a minimum speed?  maximum speed?  lever to caliper pressure?  (aka how much you pull on the lever).

The Myerson comment reflects what I consider a sad state of affairs.  The critical question--how much better braking is or isn't, and in what conditions--has yet to be publicly answered in any controlled study.
