On another note, does anyone know of a frame painter in the DC or NYC area? I want to bring back to life my first real race bike, a Serotta Club Series steel frame circa late 70’s/early 80’s  which I bought used in ‘83. Needs a new paint job and decals badly.

I used Ben , amazing work , but I was shocked how much it ended up costing ,

Keep in mind this was a carbon frame , so the prep i believe is much more expensive , but they gave me an estimate , and it was there or there abouts the final costs , 
It was white with 1 added color at fork insides and rear stays , with decals it cost over $800.

-Used to have a Thule fork mount rack back 10-15 years ago, it was nice. Open to Yakima as well, don't know of any other brands
-Only have 9mm quickrelease, rim brake, bikes right now, but would like to future proof the purchase in case I ever get a disk brake, thru-axle bike. Would be good to be compatible with disc brakes and thru axles either stock or with an adapter
-Right now, leaning towards the Yakima Forklift model as it seems that it will attach to the Honda stock roof rails. The comparable Thule product has conflicting information if it works with the Honda OEM rails or not

Dont' have a car or roof rack. Yakima should work fine.

Most modern fork mounts (much like hubs) have a wide axle that allows for all sorts of forks by use of adapters. But you can also get old school 9mm mounts and get a thing like this (have one, works as expected)

One consideration if you usually park the car on the NYC streets is that roof racks get stolen, sometimes you might want to remove it.

I recently picked up this INNO rack from Jeff bezos.com (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01GRXI6B8?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title)  and it has worked real real well. It is a wheel on mount which might not be what you’re looking for but you don’t have to mess around with axle standards or anything. It held my hard tail mtb to and from MA (about 4 hours each way) in the rain without any concerns from me.

 I never used my old roof racks because they took too much fiddling to get the bike on but I could see myself using this one more regularly. It takes about 1min to get the bike in securely. If you’re not short like me, it’s probably even quicker. It also has some built in security features. You can’t take the rack off the roof while there’s no bike on there and the bike can lock into the rack if you’d like. 

If your budget is more and you can catch them when they’re open, the SeaSucker racks from Redbeard look pretty neat too.

I haven't tried these yet, but the basic concept seems to work pretty well.  I know I'd be checking them every time I stop just to be safe.  I've only heard one story about them lifting off--and it was someone speeding at some ridiculous speed and his glass sunroof lifting off.  Probably apocryphal.

The advantage of these is they're pretty small and easy to stash.

Tom - I have a Yakima system that I took off a 2008 CRV that I am looking to get rid of. It's eleven years old at this point and is 9mm QR only but I have used the adapters for thru-axle and they work fine. I think I posted it previously when I first took it off. I will look for the post. It may not tick all of your boxes but I will let it go for cheap.

Many of your bikes have been up on this thing. After trying to figure out if it worked somehow with the new ride, I've decided no. So its up for sale.

• Yakima 58" long round cross bars with locking Control towers. I'm unsure of the condition of the towers. Pricing it accordingly - you may need new towers. Also the landing pads were for a Honda CRV but two broke while taking them off. In general, assume new connection points to whatever vehicle this goes on.
• Yakima Load Warrior basket with faring.
  
• Four Yakima Forklift bike racks. Three have locking fork clamps, one does not (still works fine, just not the locking style). I have it set up with two on top of the basket facing backwards and two outboard of the basket facing forward. Easily fits four road/CX bikes.

Everything is in good condition for a 10 year old assembly. Doesn't look new but no major scratches or other damage. Considering I'm unsure about the connection points, I'm hoping to get $200.

Will probably put this on Craigslist in the next few days for $250 - hoping to unload it before the winter weather sets in and I have to move it to the basement.

BTW, this thing makes your car look pretty bad ass if I do say so myself. And makes it easier to spot in a parking lot, especially if you are driving a CRV or other super common vehicle.

I've seen one in the wild around my area on - what else - a sports-ish car (Jaguar coupe). It is definitely a "look".

Haha yeah the only horror story I’ve heard was about the suction cups actually being too strong and cracking a windshield. But I agree, I feel like it would take me some time to not be obsessively checking it. 

@TomWasko I have two Thule Sidearms that stay on my car year round. They're wheel-on and lock and are very sturdy and I've driven 5 hours with my mtb and gravel bike up there with zero issues. I also street park nearly every day and they're still there, just bought some lock nuts to replace the original wing nuts and feel quite confident

Does anyone know what type of derailer hanger the crux uses? Figure it’s a good idea to have a spare (especially after my sweet sweet bin today lol)

If I understand correctly, it sounds like the new 12 speed cassette is backwards compatible with 11sp HG hubs which is suuuper surprising to me given, ya know, how the bike industry usually gets down. 

Sometimes there's a weird inbetween period. Like that time they had mechanical disc brakes on road groupsets.

And sometimes they just force stuff on everyone and don't admit any wrongdoing *sneezepressfitbottombracketscoughfunckthattoheck*

feels like a very weird moment that the industry actually thought about us little guys (as opposed to sponsored teams) who may want to upgrade the drivetrain without also replacing what could be expensive wheels lol

Shimano 12 speed cassettes will work with current freehubs. As opposed to competitors, they mostly keep the same front and rear ratios. The 11th cog is still the smallest.

So, it seems that the the big two, Shimano and SRAM and the small one, Campy, are all 12-speed.

But I'm guessing that cross-compatibility is largely gone, at least between SRAM and everyone else.

I'm also not happy about the ending of mechanical shifting.  Hoping Campy keeps it alive.  I have a tough time believing that the public has spoken out for electronic.  Especially with gravel being allegedly the driver of development these days.

If Campy keeps mechanical, I’ll happily switch over. I’m not sold on electronic at all. The price is ridiculous. I read that the new Ultegra will be $2400. That’s 150% more than brand new Ultegra r8000 now. Bonkers
