Ronde van Millbrook (a WDC joint)

234 comments · 2981 views

Dear club,

On Saturday, April 6, Al Barouh and I will be throwing the first ever Ronde van Millbrook, a 60+ mile race over hill, dale and dirt around my family's house in Millbrook, NY.  This will be the ultimate roubaix-style prep race for Battenkill, which is a week later.

More details to come, but here's the skinny:
  • It's a KCC-only affair . . . kind of like club champs, but with powers of x more camaraderie, hijinks.
  • It's a full-service affair . . . there will a BBQ after the race.
  • It's a family affair . . . bring your brood for a day in the country.
  • There is both an individual race (for 1st, 2nd and 3rd) and some manner of team race.  The organizers will divide the peloton into sub-teams.  Everyone's placing contributes towards their team's performance.
  • It will kick off somewhere around 11am.
  • My house is 8 miles from a metro-north station (Wassaic) and 86 miles by car from the upper west side.
  • There will be podium girls.  They will be fine as hell.
I'll keep you posted as I fill in the blanks, but mark this day on your calendar and guard it assiduously from bosses, injuries and non-compliant family members.

Can't wait.

-William

Let's do it!

This has been a couple of years in the making - so psyched it's happening.

For those of you who haven't been to William's in Millbrook, you're in for a treat.

A freaky, freaky treat.

a "freat" if you will...
I am EXCITE!

somehow I am afraid this will hurt, but the BBQ will make up for it.

Danny boy: you are right

It will hurt

And the BBQ will make up for it

freaky, freaky or freaky deaky? I much prefer the latter.

This is literally on my calendar -- as well as everyone else's who added the KCC Google calendar to their phones/Google accounts. Get that sh*t!

I was on the fence but the flyer and promise of smash mouth fest = I'm so there.
So are there things for our better halves to be doing while the rest of us are getting cheek snot and dirty roading?
You mean apart from knitting scarves and talking about kittens?
Fush Yu Mang or Astrolounge.

Choose...wisely.

^this.

I can say for sure that there are plenty of good walks in the area, but other than that...William?

there is a terrific zoo at Millbrok School 6 miles away, as well as great walking trails

our yard is big and beautiful with lots of room to stretch out

there is a decent vineyard across the street with tastings/tours

if this shit doesn't appeal to them, they can take a crack at cleaning my gutters
Can I bring my dog and Ak-47? I mean, just in case I don't feel like riding.

And are the ladies gonna be single or should I dig one up the night before in Williamsburg? Because me on the podium might go all Hincapie if she's French.
"or should I dig one up the night before in Williamsburg?.

Grave-robbin'. I like your style, Owens.
@WilliamDC Squirrel shooting nearby?  Do you go to the zoo for that or is that woods only activity?

@neilx let's take this conversation off list . . .

Lulz! The first time I tried to skin a squirrel that way, I tore it in half and splattered Greg Donovan with squirrel shit.

I think you missed the important part that is in the picture but isn't represented in the text. You must wear a pair of stylish lace-up boots and striped pants, or else it will all go sideways quickly.

trenchant insight, danny boy

my canadian tuxedo probably contributed significantly to that failure

Hey Folks -

anyone who has raced the club championship can tell you that racing against your club mates is one of the best learning experiences you can have.

Please RSVP to William if you plan on attending, let's get a big showing and make this a success. It should be a mandatory ride for anyone doing Battenkill, but I can't really mandate that.

New members - this is a great one for you!

Especially you strong new Cat 5's - this gives you the chance to race against the upper categories - a very valuable experience.

Some of you all out on the group ride were looking strong. Bring it out to Millbrook and lets have a fun, competitive, club race!
O.M. EFFING G. You guys, I wish this wasn't 3 weeks away. I want NOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm building this up so much in my head that it will be totally impossible for me to be anything but disappointed, sort of like when The Expendables came out. EXCEPT I KNOW I WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! And neither will any of you.

I promise.
I am in.  Really looking forward to it.  I was planning on taking the train, but I have a car, so if we want to use it and carpool, that works too.  I have a rack that holds ~3 bikes.
I'll be heading up there... more likely to help out than to race.  As long as I am making it a day trip and not taking the family for the weekend I should be able to take one or two riders and bikes from Brooklyn with me and back.  I'll know better next week and will post.
I Plan to be there with my squirrel rifle. I would love to keep neilx company on the way up - and provide a certain degree of protection.
