I think next time around (not battenkill) I'm gonna try the roll of the front whistling approach, dig a little bit after that and hope I get joined cause this kind of complacent behavior many riders have is just enervating.

Hey, that tactic actually did work for Greg Donovan at Battenkill a few years ago - except no one bridged up to him. He rode the second half of the race alone and solo'ed in for the win. Nuts.

the roll off the front approach works well for me very often. the "huge attack" that we often see in lower category racing doesn't work because a) folks react quickly b) you get tired from digging so hard

I love this course, it's always blowing a gale so it feels longer than 48/60 miles. William describes it as "MUTHAFUCKING hard...kind of like 60 miles of a 25 mile Floyd race . . . with rollers". Ian likens it to racing in England; "small, twisty, rough lanes on open roads." Reg early, I have a feeling this will be a popular one.

I have a place in the Catskills that is relatively close to Coxsackie. I can accommodate 2 or 3 riders the night before the race, sparing those the grueling drive up that morning. I usually do this race at least once to prep for the Battenkill, usually the weekend before BK. Anyway I'll check with the Misses and see if it's OK to let a few drop by in the day before. Coxsackie is about 50min from my house. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll let you all know for sure as we get closer to March.

From memory - the drive up from Brooklyn is about 2:45. Add 45 mins for the return into Brooklyn saturday afternoon.

I love it when the A field rolls the deepest in pre-reg. It's a good indication of what to expect from this race. No frills, no bs, just all out for 60 miles with a few pros sprinkled in to keep you honest. Wooo.

Anyone got space in their car for one more, either tomorrow or on the 29th?

I must warn you though, the last time I hitched a ride with someone to a race, that individual ended up breaking 6 ribs and 1 collar bone and got high on drugs. I am a bit of a bad influence, apparently.

20 minutes and I'm off the back. A little kerfuffle that resulted in some cross practice for a couple of racers opened up a gap that I closed and then I promptly proceeded to blow up. Oh well, next one. Park races don't really give you the 2 min and 5 min all out drags that these races do. At least I got a nice 20 out of it.

Thanks J-dog, let me know your plans for this over the next few weekends and we'll see what's what.

If not, we'll reverse Karma for sure another time, maybe go back to the scene of the crime and do Hunter on the new course...

I'd go with the bike — it drives itself.

Gorgeous day up there. Ian and Aaron lined up for the B race (Vlad got hammered in the "A" race). This course is very much about positioning and Ian and I kept up there all day. Aaron gave it his all, but found out the hard way that hangovers and no openers aren't a winning combo. Had a go at breaking away with two to go but couldn't quite force a split/break. A couple of NYvelocity guys got off the front on the last lap and none of the teams with numbers were either able or organized to pull it back (6 cycle had 5 guys for chrissakes). I sat on McGarity and Rovner for the sprint, and they both had awful position, so went early. Props to Ian for the transport. Hope to see a bigger crew out there next week.

For those keeping score, 372NP for 5:45 (with 395NP for 1:30 right in the middle of that) is what caused me to blow. Yep. Thanks for playing.

There are no parting gifts in Coxsackie.
