Don't know if anyone saw the Time's magazine article on how companies can learn all about you from your buying habits. Pretty creepy.
More importantly, there's stuff about habit formation that is relevant to training and racing. Habits are things people don't think about. When something becomes a habit, you can do it faster, with less stress, and the habit is hard to break.

@ Wump that was a great article. Very interesting stuff. Might have more to say about it in person :P
Would love to see a list of "top 10 racing habits" from some of you veterans. I'm still working on getting my number pinned correctly before the start...

Jules,
I don't know if we've already started a 'habits of highly effective racers" thread yet. Look around. Something might be out there.
Numbers are easy. First, the big numbers take six pins. I put a batch of six in my pocket/bag before going to a race; you thread five of them on to the sixth to keep them together. Four for the corners, one on the top, and one on the lower side it's on. Most officials want your number just above your pockets for easier spotting on finish line cameras. Therefore, you have two easy guides to work with: one is your pockets and one is the top side seam of your jersey/skinsuit. So if they want the number on the right side, your first pin goes right above where the right pocket meets the side seam. Follow the side seam up, with a middle pin, then the top right pin. Then the top middle pin,the top left pin, thebottom left pin.
And if you've got a full-zip jersey, you should pin the number on yourself.

When we debate about doping and cycling, it is important to keep in mind that the major American professional sports have drug testing policies that are more or less jokes:

Jeff - nice link!
They have some good pictorial examples on that site of bad pinning , especially why folding the # is bad, and why sitting up at the finish line is bad.

A blogger at the Atlantic suggests that streets would be safer if the police applied the "broken windows theory" to traffic crimes

BTW, she cites The Gothamist and STreetsblog positively.

Interesting side note; electric bikes are forbidden. News to me. So much for my chances in the spring series.
I guess fab wants his bike back now...

OMG. Let the Cipo Fan-mania begin. Just look at this fucking GOOGLE search...! He's like James Bond, except with an Italian accent and a monster sprint.

Love Craig Lewis.

"One constant thought running through my head was "how is it possible that some of these guys are so sketchy?" You know that every race – even their training rides at home – have been just as tricky or even more so, yet they are still horrible at handling their bikes. Doesn't practice make perfect? There are more than a few rides here that are evidence to the contrary."

^ Crazy. But there is a 6 month window for them to get their act together before fines start, so we can be sure that by September the NYPD will be on the straight and narrow and things like this won't be happening.

I like Hushovd but he also annoys me sometimes in the whiny Cuddles way. Chavanel's out too. Although, with the health problems I've had the last 2.5 years, it's actually neat reading about guys like Froome and...forgot the domestic pro who suffered with guillain barre... just b/c they continue to work through stuff that seems never-ending. I think Froome had some sort of blood eating worm in his system. "Snail Fever". Ewwww.

Everyone's talking about Sagan for this one. His P-N performance was very impressive. Haussler also looks really strong right now (after a couple rough years), and he's gotta have a chip on his shoulder from this classic Primavera finish from 2009:
