I like the look of the Steher - back in the day I used to use Sonderklasses, which were great.
I think I might invest in some faster wheels. I have Ellipses at the mo - really nice all rounder, but something for special occasions would be good...Anyone any ideas? Especially if it's something RB can get. Naturally would love an IO and a Comet, but I think that's a little premature, ha.

I used Sonderklasse in the past as well. They are simply double the price for one less layer of casing. The Stehers are actually the old sprinters. Good stuff.
As for wheels, Reynolds doesn't currently make track wheels, so RB is out. Neuvation doesn't make track wheels either. I did some research and ended up getting a set of Boyd track wheels. I liked the road wheels, so I gave him a shot with the track. Seem good, but I'll let you know once I get the tires and glue them up.
My other ideas for wheels (I'm not willing to drop really big bucks): Williams Wheels - 88mm deep.- $1000
Fast Forward Wheels (Dutch builder) - Ft6 - $1150 or so form Wiggle (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/fast-forward-f6t-carbon-tubular-track-wheelset/)
or if you want deeper - the F9T http://www.wiggle.co.uk/fast-forward-f9t-carbon-tubular-track-wheelset/ ($1450)

LaCorte is riding their 66mm deep road rims and loves them. I saw them this morning and they look great.
I can't think of better price / performance than the Fast Forwards. The US Distributor is more expensive, but then you have a US presence to deal with. The Williams are good if you want that deep (I didn't) and I'd wager they'd build a shallower set. I liked to Boyds because of past experience though. I went 50mm/58mm F/R. 2x lacing, 24/28 hole.

Thanks Eric, very useful. I love the look of the F9T, but the Williams much cheaper for virtually the same depth. The former so much more aesthically pleasing tho...Maybe the F6Ts or F5Ts (nice deal on those) would be a good compromise. Just think how much faster I'd go with that extra three-four cm depth on the F9Ts though, haha.
I like the "225lb weight limit" cavaet on the Williams. I'd better stay off the Weight Gain 3000 in that case.

Week 3. Scored the omniun win.
Miss and out. I used this as a warm up as I couldn't really get one in prior to the race. Rode the front till the end. Got second to mark.
Points Race. Countered after the the first sprint made it to score on the second sprint. Mark bridged up but Al was driving the chase and closing in real fast. We got caught on the final bell lap. I got into position as I we were captured and won the final sprint.
Unknown distance. I was not going to be the sucker who bets it all and goes off the front in an unknown distance scratch. I've played that card way too many times in my brief track racing career. My plan was to sit in for the sprint. First lap a random small climber type Mengoni rider(ceasar?) attacks. I think why isn't Al following him? Oh yeah al is on Mengoni! So things speed up and he gets caught. Things move fast for while, then slow up, then fast again. I'm just waiting for the sprint. Finally Atwood rings the bell. I'm sitting fifth wheel doing me best to be patient as the sprint opens up. I let the guy in front of me bring me up a few spots and at bend 3 I'm on Al's hip. We drag race down the home straight for a photo finish type situation. I kind of thought I got it but couldn't really tell. Allan declares that i got it when we come around.
Fun night but we need more Kissenas out there!
I'm hoping the momentum from tonight carries into the weekend of racing ahead.

Anyone down for riding this Wed? It's sprint night. Sounds fun, but probably max three rides and a lot of hanging around. Wondering if there will be enough 1/2/3s for it too.
That said, I figure it's a good opportunity to take on LaCorte and see where I'm at in terms of firepower.

David, I'm probably not going to be able to make it unless I can sneak out of work early. I'll check out the schedule nearer the time and if there are some decent sounding races I'll consider doing it. Need the race practice before State Champs...

Allright you flat landers....can I convert an old road frame for use on the track with a whit industries eno hub? also...can i use a road front wheel as well or must I build up a track specific front wheel. Can I race this frankenbike at the Kissena velodrome...or will I catch shit for not having a track specific frame? much obliged....yack

I think the main thing with the frame is the bottom bracket clearance (i.e. it's higher on a track bike) - but Kissena is so shallow that I don't think that will be an issue. Some of the more technically astute guys might be able to tell you more that that...

Use a slow release for the front. It tightens with an Allen key.

Yacks, you're better off trolling for a loaner - I know the velodrome used to have a shed with a couple of loaners stashed. That guy Ceya (old track guru) always has bikes to loan...

The track still has the loaners. We don't have a copy of the key to the trailer but we can get hold of it if you're ever interested in using one.
