R&A Cycling Series
Apr 30, 2013 at 02:39 AM
Looking at the people signed up, its going to be a killer 40+ race. Overall ambitions dropping a bit, but I'll take a shot. Who's in?
Apr 30, 2013 at 11:40 AM
@ Rick Perner
Charlie emailed me about doing KOM this Saturday, but I told him you'd signed up for the whole series. Then he mentioned you've also signed up to race cat 5, so he wants me to do it.
Just wanna clarify that you're racing and not doing KOM officiating. If you'd rather do KOM instead of race, just let me know and I'll tell him.
Thanks,
Jeff

@eragot I see Dioslaki in there (on his own), Mihael is fairly quick, Frias is a fast sprinter... but you could easily out-sprint these guys with a leadout. Brauer will be going for relentless break. Who else is giving you pause?
We might just want to mark Dioslaki and then cover any major Brauer moves (who is their strongest rider) btw?

Steinberg is no slouch

Yeah Gary won the Bethel masters series comfortably, and Brauer rode fairly 'smart' always keeping two riders in the top 3 on GC, which caused a lot of problems for the other teams.
Apr 30, 2013 at 02:03 PM
Gary is no match for Diolsaki, or Jeff Cline for that matter. There are some other good attacking riders in there as well. Leigh Sorrells (unattached at hte moment) and Mark Alden of Blue Ribbon as well. I wouldn't be surprised if John Durso signed up.
Apr 30, 2013 at 02:30 PM
@Eric you are both strong and savvy. Aim high!
Apr 30, 2013 at 03:39 PM
Its Jeff Cline I have to watch - and Diolsaki too. We should try to do what we did in the 40+ race in PP last year - be near the front and make the moves.
Who else is racing?

I'm pretty sure I'm in.
Apr 30, 2013 at 03:58 PM
I'm most likely in. You should only expect me to be useful the first half of the race. 2nd half I'll likely be hanging on. Which also means in the off chance I get into a break, I'll be wheel sucking until someone bridges up. I'd probably be more useful in a leadout for the first sprint or KOM.
Apr 30, 2013 at 04:04 PM
My hope is that like last year, a break goes and we get in it. So, I'll be near the front. I don't usually concern myself with the jerseys, but if the opportunity presents itself, we can pull ourselves together and sprint for them.
Its the break I want us / me to be in. So keeping near the front and helping me stay protected works well.

I'm usually pretty good at staying up front. Whether I can get into a break is another thing, but I had some success with it last year in PP.
Apr 30, 2013 at 05:01 PM
I might be in for this one.
Apr 30, 2013 at 05:25 PM
Those of us sitting on the fence (including myself) had better get off soon as there are 70 reg'd in the masters now.
Apr 30, 2013 at 05:42 PM
I am a fence squatter....this race is going to be a Geritol fueled, throw down hootenanny !!!! I suspect I will be there. I intend to throw down on the climb right after the sprint laps...take THAT fat sprinter types !!!!
yacks
Apr 30, 2013 at 05:43 PM
fyi...Andrew Lacorte is reg'd. I suspect he would be odds on favorite for the green jersey....He will likely be half way up the climb by the time the field reaches him after the sprints.
Apr 30, 2013 at 06:42 PM
@twoyacks - you haven't raced against LaCorte on the road much. He's a non factor. Chris Loehner is a much more credible threat.
Plus the race should have a break established by then and LaCorte will not be in that break, having been dropped by the hill.
@Marc Bertucco - come on down, its great to have a road captain like yourself around.
@mugwump - get down here.

Looking forward to this race as I don't often get to race with some teammates (e.g. Eric). I'll be happy to help patrol the front and get into/bridge/chase/lead out as needed. Of course, I would love to get in a decisive break, but like Craig said would probably be hanging on for dear life by the end. This should be fun.
BTW, It would help if someone could point out some of these riders (that are being discussed) before or during the race so that we all know who to watch.

I'm reg'd
May 01, 2013 at 01:08 PM
Okay, I'm in too. I'll post some thoughts about what I think would be a good team plan in the next day or so. If you are racing, and haven't already, please post your own self-assessment of what you think you would be good at/want to do this coming Saturday.
May 01, 2013 at 01:54 PM
90 reg'd - yacks better sign up.

I am twisted into an envious piece of bitter green licorice that I cannot help with this series.

How's my knee?

Wondering if there a "Kissena" line at this/these races where we line up and get an envelope of cash back since Charlie took over/we've got guys volunteering?
May 01, 2013 at 04:27 PM
Oh damn, I wish I was around this weekend for this. Have fun guys.
May 01, 2013 at 05:17 PM
currently holding at 98 pre-reg'd.....stay on target rogue leader....staay oooonnn taaarrrgggeeeettttt.....

I nominate Bertucco road general.
Overall points go 10 deep, two KOM/Green sprints (3 places). Knowing masters racing, there's a high probability there'll be breaks up the road for KOM and Green laps. Ragot going for a jersey with a lead-out train ending with Condon and me? Not sure what the smartest hand is to play. 40 miles of attacks and counters is going to take its toll. Not having any real sprinting weapons, Deno's and Brauer are going to go all in for breakaways. Then there's the Cat 1/2 engines like Dioslaki who will think the same. I suggest we have someone who can cut it in a breakaway mark Dioslaki.
