This made me LOL. Irony aside, good advice from all Jill. Can't wait to read your race report.

I personally am imagining trying to do that in a skinsuit, and it feels like this.

Now that's a lol.

Yes, I should have put in the skin suit caveat.  My apologies.

it should have read, "if you're racing in a jersey, especially a full-zip jersey, you should e able to pin your number yourself."

That written, when we've got a real bathroom rather than a closet pot at the race, I often take off the skin suit and pin it myself.  Without, I can usually get in the first pin, sometimes a second.
Thanks, everyone, especially for the extensive pinning advice ;). Luckily, Jeff has offered to pin my number, so that part should go alright!  Seriously though, I really appreciate all of your words of wisdom!
Jill- I am absolutely 100 percent certain you will be awesome!!!

I'm setting the over/under on Reiners at 2 laps.
Don't underestimate Mr green jersey Vlad. What's the trifecta?

Isn't this the sort of thing that got Pete Rose banned from baseball?

I am not sure whether Vlad is trying to inspire me to beat his low estimation, or believes that I am going to get totally spanked by this race.
I think Dan can top 5 tomorrow (if he gets some testosterone patches from Danielson).

Digging the comments, thanks Jill for getting the advise flow from the team this morning.  Was in the park this morning just warming up w a few laps in prep for tomorrow.

Question, any confirmation if the race numbers can be picked up at R&A today (Friday)?
10a to 7p

These guys are a lot faster than the 4's you were racing against... when you were 'in shape'... and had a fleet of Kissena's escorting you to the line.

This is the last race and the points race is close. You don't stand a chance Dan.

Good to see you back, but enough with the cat videos. It's time to get to work. Bike racing is about getting beat down. You're welcome.

OH NO HE DIDN'T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a big field, plenty of places to hide. Dan will make it to 6 laps. If he really wants to be conservative and maximize his chances of finishing in the mix, he can just sit in Dioslaki the whole time, go where he goes.
Yeah right, come back from not racing for 1+ years and sit on Dioslaki. Makes sense. WTF White? How delusional is this club?

The last few weeks or so, thanks to my coach, my training plans, my goals, I cannot avoid the overwhelming, oppressive feeling that "training," specifically, being "in training" just sucks. Bike riding is awesome and fun. But training? It's almost never fun. Even my easy days consist of me alternating pedal strokes and stretching to make sure my old man body doesn't cramp up to the point of full body contraction leaving me stranded in the fetal position on the low road to Piermont.

I mean, I have my moments, usually before a workout, or ride where I'm looking forward to the intervals or climbs ahead, when I think, "I love this shit." But when I'm in them, deep in them. It just sucks. It hurts. And I want them to be over, like 30 seconds ago. And then trying to constantly discipline myself to not eat like a fool?

But what I've discovered especially these past say 10 years where I've had ups and downs in fitness levels, is that there is no way to half-ass the training and expect anything other than getting spanked in a race.

Anyway, there are rewards in this sport, but they are few and far between at best. And maybe nobody will notice them, but you will and that's what really counts.

So maybe Dan will get spanked and spit out the back. But maybe he'll last that little bit longer than he thought he could when he pinned on his number. Maybe he'll bridge up to that move before flaming out. Maybe his experience will help him find a pocket of protection and maybe he'll finish after all!

Regardless, here's hoping that all of you, Dan, Jill, everyone, will have a moment that shines out from the big pile of "this sucks" you will no doubt experience tomorrow and forever. It's that moment, that glimmer that keeps you going.
my plan in this race: be invisible to the wind. Hide as much as possible keep my nose out of the wind and fully ensconced in protective bubble of the field. I know how the wiley masters race, and I have been able to stay with the field before. I know this is going to suck, and I know I am going to think in the middle of this, why did I leave my comfortable bed to come out in the dark and get wolloped by the big man with the hammer, but that is what I signed up for. If I wasn't ready for the beating I wouldn't be getting into the ring.

BTW, two things for the record Vlad, I was racing this past year, but since it was on this stuff called mud, I am not sure you're aware it is exists. Also, those were cat GIFs not videos, I though you were in technology and you knew the difference.
You can be as "Wiley" as you want hoss...ain't gonna save u from this

My guess is that the racing will be rather negative.  I'm thinking that people are going to try to keep it together for the sprints and the finish.  I'd love it to go the other way, but I don't see the underdogs for the spring and overall going for the long attacks to take the prizes.  And I don't see that many outsiders throwing down.
Double tubular flats again...see #potholes

Quick R&A report:

Was fun. Felt very good. @Dan Reiners is the hotness. So awesome to see Kasia, Jill and Kristina racing.

Looking forward to cyclocross.
Yacks,
I think you should consider a bike with sturdier wheels.

Masters race report.

boy was that fast, I knew I was going to have to hang on for at least two laps. So after a quick warm up I got to the start/finish just as the women were rolling out. I was ready for the early surges, and I was prepared to race the first two laps out of spite. I was hanging in the back third of the pack and making sure that I didn't drift off the back on the hill. After crossing the line the second time I said "Suck it Vlad" and settled into the rhythm of the surges and regroups of the field. There was one point with 4 to go where we were strung out single file and i was hanging onto Eddy B's wheel who was on Ragot's wheel, and I was focused on staying stuck to the wheel and hoping that neither eddy or I cracked because I knew closing the gap would likely gas me. On the final lap I knew I wasn't going to contest the sprint, but I did want to keep it upright so I stayed with the group, but drifted to the back in order to stay out of the shenanigans at the front. I had to close a gap in the middle of the hill as the WW guy in front of me just gave up, and drifted in after allowing some space for the folks contesting the sprint for the all important 25th place.

thanks Vlad for giving me the stomach of anger. If you want watts and speed, sorry you'll have to ask someone else. I rode sans-tracking.
