Related...I wonder how much cash it takes to "shut down the park" until 11am or whenever all those NYRR events and Triathlons, etc happen? Those events typically get 3000+ starters.

FWIW, I'm officially not doing the Dave Jordan race. I'm kind of bummed about this, but also kind of not. Family man adventures on Saturday. And Sunday is the main event for me.

Horseshit alley was particularly frothy this morning.
P123 recap:
A well represented break of about 5ish got away on the 2nd lap (out of 9). United kept them close and then Mengoni and Weather Chanel brought them back. Things got pretty fast during the second half of the race when the chasing got serious. Once we were all back together with about 3 to go, things got really fast. I looked at the front as we went up Harlem Hill for the last time and saw 10+ Foundation bros lining it up and that's the way the cookie crumbled. As we continued to whip through the park, things got a little dicey as they tend to do on the final lap.
Even in my best dreams I have no business trying to contest a field sprint of that caliber. Adam Alexander took $2500 home in that sprint. I was hoping for a late counter, but that didn't happen, so I rolled my steed in for 52nd place. This was a killer race. Thank you CRCA.

Several minor crashes in the 4 field. 4 to be exact. the bell lap had 2 crashes plus the sprint to the line crash. I was at the back and off it by the end. Unremarkable for me. The race wasn't too exciting, not much was going on. Not particularly fast nor hard. No premes so people just sat in and rode. By tavern on the green on the last lap, i was talking to Carlos in RBNY and said look at this, a big group, slow, i bet a crash. Soon enough, I saw an FGX guy and another on the curb by horseshit alley. In any case, I figured it wasn't worth being in the fray at the point.

3's Report.
We rode around in circles for 42 miles and had a field sprint. I surfed the back mostly for first 4-5 laps to save energy. There were some digs after that and I moved to the front and followed wheels. Dave was on the front a lot early doing some attacks. He looked strong but nothing was going to stick with that prize money up for grabs. People were really going for it.
Yada yada- I was second going into the final sprint at the base of the hill. I stood up on the pedals and my legs started to burn right then. I figured I could still finish in the money (went 8 deep) but an enormous fat sprinter dude came right into me. I lost all my momentum and came in 12th. boo hoo.
I went out and rode for another 3 hrs in Jersey afterwards to blow off steam. Total mileage today: 91 miles. Total satisfaction from waking up at 4 AM- zero. Upside: I didn't get caught up in the crash that I heard during the final sprint. So I got that going for me. Also, White Plains tomorrow.

Race report: Woke up to a beautiful morning to race and felt pretty good after only getting about 5 hours of sleep. Arrived at registration to have enough time to use the rest room, pin on my number, and then promptly line up for the 5:30 start time. And whoosh off we go.
The race was somewhat uneventful because of the size of the field kept everyone in check. There were some early attacks that had some potential, but again with a field of 100 riders it's pretty hard any attack is going to have a chance. I basically bided my time at the front with Vlad and hoped either Dave Jordan or Foundation would organize themselves with one lap to go and start to string out the field. No such luck. I then started to mark the wheels I've been watching all race (Shoy and Williams) and stayed tight with Vlad. Coming up to Harlem Hill I push it up to the front and use the descent to gain position within the first 10 riders and stayed there all the way to Horse Shit Alley. This is where my race becomes bullshit. Nothing worse than working all day to be in the front to have some clown try to come around in the last 1K of racing and push his way up to the front. As we began our turn, this gentleman decides he wants to take the outside of the turn and push into where I'm riding. We ended up locking arms, I immediately push into him to stay upright. Now please don't get me wrong here. I am not the type of rider who wishes to inflict bodily harm on my fellow racer, but this fellow just does not want to let go of me. I ended up flicking my elbow to dislodge from him and unfortunately he goes down along with my chances of finishing in the top 10. At this point I sprint back, but too late 20 riders have already sailed by me and there is too much argy bargy going on for any sane person to want any part of that finish line, along with all the circus acts that happened at the end. Anyway that's racing, felt good today on the bike and happy I stayed upright to the finish.
Kudos to Vlad for staying in the front all race and capturing 9th place. Kudos to Shoy for 3rd and Williams 7th. Aaron and Pat great to see you guys out there. And Aaron keep battling, those race demons will go away!!

Bump. 2015's edition is coming up. Looks like fields are filling up and waitlists are forming. Kissena currently has 6 riders registered across multiple categories. $50 prime for every field, every lap!

looks like it's more balanced for a field sprint. But with primes every lap, that could tire the field out and help a break escape. Being close to the front could be the difference between even finishing or not.
Breakaway riders include three from Weather channel (Margarite, Minturn, Goldstein), two from Lupus (Rego, Baldwin), Mengoni's Eugene and Augusto, Rapha's Seaton, three from Zipcar, Rafal from Somerville, Durso from high gear, and Gui from Van Dessel.
But there are lots of guys who will be happy to sit in and keep it together. Lupus has Savory for the sprint. Jordan has a bunch of guys who won't work together. I'd almost put up Ricky Lowe as I can see United getting behind him, but he hasn't done much this season.

Dry and sunny and plenty of horse poop dust to go around today.
I saw Edgar roll up around 5:15 to pick up his number, so maybe he got his gears squared away? Not sure how his race went. Only saw the 1/2/3 dudes after we were done.
Felt like a fast race. Seemed like 9 laps or 90k for the 1/2/3s, even though I thought it was going to be 8 laps. No matter. Full field. 100 riders. $150 winner take all primes on every lap get things spicey. Lots of passing of Cat 4 and women's fields early on in the race that added to the sketchiness of things.
Vlad, JP and I. JP and I for about 1/2 the race are doing a decent job of riding near the front. At some point Weather Channel, a big team, gets Mike Margaritte off the front. That dude is rumored to have like a 400 watt threshold. He appears to stay out there a long time. The field seems clueless though, as every time up Cat's Paw, they are sprinting like they have a shot at the $150 prime.
About 1/2 through the race, I'm starting to feel the effects of my 90+ mile ride on Saturday. JP is still up front. He's making some moves here and there, but nothing is really getting away at this point. I'm recovering in the pack. With 2 laps to go, I know I need to plot my way to the front if I'm to contest the sprint. With 1 lap to go, I'm like, "DUDE WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?" I go wide as the field hooks left around Tavern on the Green. I'm taking some wind, but I'm okay, and I've got an out. You always need an out in the closing kilometers of a bike race. Keep it wide I sweep hard and fast into Horseshit Alley. Yikes, a little too hot, I'm over the gully/depression made by horse carriage wheels. If this were a cross race, I would have been stretching the tape big time. I'm riding in the wind again. Not ideal, but the gully keeps riders to the left, and gives me room to move up. Coming out of the alley, I move up some more. Maybe 30 from the front. Not great, but I've still got some time.
CRASH!!! A line of riders dump it in the middle of the road as it dips down to the boathouse. I see JP squeeze by on the left. I put a foot down and start the 3 second prayer that I don't get hit from behind. The road clears a bit, I get back on the bike and start pedaling hard again. I should have just sat up completely, but I can't help myself. Maybe I can catch a few folks?
Turns out the legs are thick and crampy and just about dead. Well, I guess even if I had made it through the crash, I probably wouldn't have sprinted that well after all.
Highlight of the morning however is while JP and I were rolling after the race, I got to meet John's awesome baby boy Hugo. 8 weeks old!

Edgar, you just need to adjust the stop screw on rear derailleur so the big gears are locked out.
