Lou Maltese Memorial
Sunday July 21st

Off topic -

its a bit way off but the next open race in CP is July 21, Lou Maltese Memorial.  I suspect this will be sold out too as we get closer to the date.

10% of waitlist? that means that if 10 ppl are on the list only 1 will get to race? I'd say the odds aren't good then.

do i get money back if i dont race?

NOTE3:
Harlem Hill Climb - Primes ($100/$50) each lap after starting on 2nd lap for each field.
Race Start @ Cats Paw Hill & Race Finish @ Tavern on Green.

@Alyosha,
yes, if you do not race, &are present, you get money back, less BikeReg fee.

re:%; if 100 people registered then 10 off the WAIT LIST will likely get into the race.
-h
ok so that's 10% of total race entrants...big difference. but noted, i'll be there.
They sent an email out the other day to registered racers asking them to confirm if they're dropping out.  I think this is going to be a popular race.

They produced a guide which shows 1st place woman gets $500, plus prizes 15 deep in that category as well as 123.  Pretty sweet, I'd say.

I'm hoping the earlier start and extra laps over the other open races they have (start at Cat's Paw, finish at Tavern) doesn't make it unsafe.

I'm in
I guess this happened today -   Anyone have details?
Is that one of those cool folding bikes I've been hearing so much about?

(all kidding aside, hope whoever was riding that is okay..)
We saw that bike as the owner was carrying it walking up Cat's Paw.  I think it happened in the 1/2/3 field.  The guy had the Champion System kit on.

There was also a crash in the last mile leading up to the finish of the 4 field.  A couple of Siggi's were involved.  I got caught behind it.  But I didn't see what happened (since I was just trying to hold on by that point), I just heard people yelling, then carbon crashing.
Holy shit it's been been nearly three hours since Wes posted a picture of sacrificed carbon and Yacks still hasn't posted a comment. I can only presume his Internet connection is broken.
Zing!
Well,  My daughter had lacrosse games all morning...But I felt a disturbance in the force at about 7:00 a.m. this morning....I know now that it was the destruction of a Jedi Knight in Central this morning...a senseless tragedy as he would have survived had he been flying in a Galactic Empire Ti-fighter (get it ?)...Another poor mariner has heeded the sirens call and smashed his carbon ship upon the rocks...sigh.
We all know that carbon is a FANTASTIC material to make a bike frame out of !  Why you may ask?  Because manufacturers can charge exorbitant prices for a one crash product.  The product can be continuous tweaked to fuel the pr machine with dubious claims about "improvements" realized in a laboratory that no human could possibly confirm by riding. Here is a link to other FANTASTIC applications for carbon fiber.

oh...see the pic below as well....she may bend (as in any effort over 500 watts)...but she won't break (not in any stupid park crash).

Well, my plastic bike is fine, my saddle however, with ti rails, is broken.  Balance has been restored.

I got caught in the cat 4 crash and went down.  I've got some hard road rash on my right arm, back and knee, and sprained my left hand.  I scratched my shifters.  My kit, however, is fine.  As am I.  I managed to brake hard before hitting a downed racer.  I'll be riding tomorrow.

Around lap 3 I headed to the front and managed a small break with a couple of other riders but we were gobbled up pretty quickly.  I was feeling good about being up front, especially on the downhill portion where I could pick and choose my own line, but the fitness levels of riders is becoming a lot more even and, after spitting out quite a few guys from the back on a hot day, our core group kept pressing hard.  I noticed some bumping going on, and on the last lap, actual bumping.  Not the touch the guy next to you kind of thing, but bumping that pushes two riders apart.  It kept happening and on the last lap, having lost my choice positioning, I decided the race was too dangerous and I wasn't going to be aggressive getting to the front again.  So I backed off, wanting to still ride with the group, keeping a nice distance between me and the riders in front of me.
A quarter mile to the finish, the group tightened up and I came up on them and someone bumped someone else on the right, as they'd been doing the whole lap, and a group of guys went down.  I almost made it past except for that deal in physics where a rider, crashing right, gets thrown left.
Stupid physics.
In hindsight, I think the next time I determine a race is too dangerous, I just back the hell out completely and turn it into a nice ride in the park.
glad to hear you're okay Bruce.
You know in Prospect if things get dodgy,  you can attack on the bell lap...get caught on the hill, then ride down flatbush, reenter the park and watch the finish...A safe and Tifosi friendly move...
WHOAAAA! BrucieBruce!

...soooSorry about crash, we (Aly, Philip, Rene&JP) thought U were hanging your w/female friend @Tavern on Green FINISH...otherwise we'd have been over to tend to your wounds.

pleased you were not too hurt& of course bike ok.

BV-S, U looked strong n race.
&BTW, Rene won (2) sprint primes in the cat3's!!!

Ouch Bruce. Good to know you walked away from that one
Heal up fast Bruce.  And congrats to your gf on her first race!
Glad you're OK Bruce, it could have been a lot worse.
Thanks for all the good thoughts, and great to see you guys out there today.
Harry, thanks for pulling me to the front on one of the faster laps.
Glad to hear you're no worse for wear Bruce; yes, if you make a decision that it's too sketch - stick to it.  This lesson (like many in life) is sadly learned best when you've paid your tuition in a bit of skin...
Andy WINS! In an amazing burst of speed that can only be described as Cavendish-esque.... Andy Di Silva takes Floyd this morning in the IV's.
now with a Strava link....

Rigby is too modest to say that he got 2nd in the 5s. He, Thierry, and I celebrated by eating some pie.
