NY State Track Champs
Jul 31, 2013 at 12:29 AM
Frustrating. Okay. Well, I'll stay tuned. Funky that Alan couldn't get a chief official for this event...weird and funky.

For those of you keeping track of this thread, I wanted to give you a heads-up that the NYS championships has been rescheduled for:
Sunday, September 15th at the Kissena Velodrome.
I'll be racing cross in Vermont that weekend, but I assume the other trackies from the team are going to be ready to rock.
Aug 07, 2013 at 01:20 PM
Like I've said to Kieran many times... I hate cross. 9/15=judgement day.

Thanks Mark, known this for a week or so, just not had chance to go on the forum. It was thanks to Ragot's skillz that we were able to find officials to re-schedule for Sept 15. He spoke to his people on our jaunt to T-Town the other week. Mark Wagner then took the day and ran with it to resurrect the champs. Really pleased it's back on.
Shame you're not riding it though! As in, turning down a state championships to run around a muddy field a couple of hundred miles away, shame on you. You should just come to Kissena and run through the trees next to the track in between races if you really want some CX ;-)

Big ups to Eric and Mark Wagner for making this happen! All you track studs have been working hard to earn those medals. I look forward to the reports and am just a wee bit jealous. Except, I'll be staying near beautiful Lake Champlain and hopefully (if it's warm enough) swimming in this nearly Great Lake with my son, wife and doggy! Oh yeah, and running around in the mud through trees. That's not as fun.

Good luck everyone racing this weekend. I believe there will be state champions in our future!

Hoping to be out there as support.
- Who needs a ride?
- When do you need to be there by?
- What support stuff do you need (e.g. food, drinks, stationary trainer to warm up)
- Do we need more cowbell?

Awesome David! Folding chairs and if anyone has a pop up tent or a Cooler? Kieran and I usually post up near the tree by the bleachers. As Leahy puts it"... The infield is too social". I've been trying to gather up every water bottle I can get my hands on in the past week. Note: there is no water at the track you must bring enough for the entire day. Also ill bring a loaf of bread and peanut butter and jelly.
Sep 13, 2013 at 03:57 PM
Dunno about a tent, but will try to scrounge up some folding chairs. I can bring extra water as well.
Sep 13, 2013 at 04:13 PM
I'm bringing rollers, will try and scrounge a big cooler type jawn. Chairs be good. I haven't done states in a long time, how late you think the whole program will run?

Until the sun goes down
Sep 13, 2013 at 07:55 PM
I can drive out there early, but don't think I can stay the entire day...

Hey everyone,
I've been meaning to post about this earlier but the last 10 days at work have been hell! Typical...
Thanks for volunteering to help out David! Sounds like Aaron needs a ride
Program starts at 10. Aim to get there for between 8.30 and 9am. It's going to be a very long day. With the way they've done the program (i.e. with the juniors in it), we will be there (as Da Silva says) until dusk. And possibly past dusk if they have to and find a way of racing in the dark.
Asides from your usual riding gear. Bring:
Water - lots of it
Energy drinks - whatever you drink
Food - we're gonna be there 9 hours at least so factor accordingly.
Towel
Clothes to put on in between races
Wet wipes
Insect repellant (once the sun starts going down, it turns into mosquito heaven. Andy, Ragot and I were there Wed night and I got bitten maybe 12 times!)
Tools / spare rings etc.
Rollers / trainer if you have one.
Prepare yourself mentally for a long day of waiting to race. Those of you who've done omniums before will know what I mean! This is gonna be longer still. If you don't have to stand up, sit down. And you can, lie down
Any questions about specific races, ask here or catch me on the day (we'll have plenty of time between races. Just don't ask me 5 mins before I'm about to race
).
There should seven Kissenas racing at least part of the Champs (JP, Andy, me for all of the Cat 1/2/3s, Ragot for the 1/2/3 team sprint. Jeff, Mattie and Aaron for the 4s). Excellent: now let's get some glory.
Let's nail this.

I'm actually only planning on racing the first three races, as I'm going to the Giants-Denver Manning Bowl that evening. (Unless, of course, I'm somehow a prohibitive favorite for winning the omnium. Right.) So: team sprint, kilo, points race.
Mattie, Aaron, and I will be doing the team sprint. I have high hopes for us. Mattie (man 3) is sandbagging in the 4s, Aaron (man 1) has gotten waaay faster before my very eyes this season, and I (man 2) am on pretty good road racing form (that counts for track sprinting, right?).
My only worry -- and this is a minor one -- is that we've practiced exactly zero times for this race. I've tried one standing start on track gearing in my entire life. It closely resembled a scene from The Sword in the Stone when a guy who isn't Arthur tries to pull the sword out of the stone -- lots of neck veins and teeth, but not much in the way of movement. Also, I have recently taken apart and reassembled my track bike without any knowledge of how to do either. I asked Ragot today if there was such a thing as "too much chain tension" on a track bike, and how tight I needed to crank down my cog's lockring. His head cocked a little, he raised his eyebrows, then his shoulders kind of slumped to the ground.

Jeez!!! 20 somthing guys in the 4s
Sep 14, 2013 at 07:08 PM
Who should I be aware of as being a threat? Those TBS guys are coming all the way down from the Buffalo region, think that a sign on intent in and of itself.
Sep 14, 2013 at 09:08 PM
mattie davitt - My first thought was "Buffalo? They don't even have a track nearby..." Whats to be aware of ?
Then I thought about Forest City Velodrome. It looks to be about 2.5 hours from them. Think of all those long, cold, Buffalo winters and the time they must spend indoors at Forest City. And they are coming in from the ass end of NYS. They may be a bit interesting to race with!
I can't make it tomorrow but good luck to all of you guys!

How long each each leg of the three man team sprint?
Sep 15, 2013 at 12:19 AM
Picking up Aaron around 8. Anyone else?
Sep 15, 2013 at 12:51 AM
Team sprint is one lap per rider. So in the the Olympics and big deal World Cup races, etc it is a 750 meter event. At our beloved Kissena velodrome it is 3 laps at 400meters per rider.
Sep 15, 2013 at 03:20 AM
Not that you guys are going to need it-- because I know you're going to kill it-- but good luck tomorrow! I'll look forward to full race reports and photos. That includes podium photos, of course.
Go get 'em!
PS: Thanks to Mr. Yang for bringing his characteristic camaraderie and enthusiasm to Kissena Velodrome tomorrow, too.
