Glori - Shenanigans are a time-honored tradition in bike racing. Not all race directors are like that, but many are. Welcome to racing, and congrats on finishing! Your tenacity will serve you well in this sport.
Thanks for sharing your experience, @Glori. Let's hope this Saturday's race is a little less disorganized.

I'll be racing, and I believe @Meredith will be as well. I should ask Erika's wife if she's been cleared to race, since I have a feeling what Ms. Can't-Stop-Won't-Stop wants to do regardless of doctor's orders.
It's often a rude introduction to the sport, especially for those who are accustomed to the organization of triathlons and/or running road races, that if you place out of the money, you can't really count on your results being recorded. Especially in park races.
@jeffrey thanks!!
@marc I guess that is good incentive to keep racing & try to get faster! And I guess I am spoiled by the tris of my past!
@kayt I will think about the race... I am going to run the 5k before the redhook crit later that night, so maybe better to have a little rest in my legs....?
Hope to see a bunch of you out at the crit!
Thanks for the report @Glori! Sounds like the shitshow assumption has been confirmed. I've never experienced a park race like that (you gotta believe me, guys!) so I'm relieved and thrilled that you want to try another one soon. It was such a blast riding with you! Camaraderie in the field is a wonderful thing.

@Kayt, you know me too well. Of course my first impulse is to race this weekend, but I'm in no condition to help my teammates in the field and I don't want to risk further injury. So instead of paying $ for the novelty of doing base miles while wearing numbers, I'm just going to watch this one from the sidelines and then ride to Piermont afterwards.

I'll be at the boathouse beforehand to help with pinning, collect coats ('cross style!) and whatever else at the start line, then go to the finish just in case the race director needs a second opinion on who won the women's field :)
Now that we have a bonafide racing squad, and to make the women's team a little more "official," I changed the title of this thread to Kissena Women's Team. This also conveniently matches Dale's title as the Women's Team Mentor. I hope that suits everyone alright. (Thanks to @JohnMalcomson for the suggestion).
We might even want to add the crca women's dev series to the racing thread for race reporting, etc. (Says the never-raced.)

I'm a librarian so I have to categorize everything ;)

Just do it. In this egalitarian world, anyone can start a new thread ('discussion' - see top left corner).

Whatever you call it, please be sure to incorporate the Dewey Decimal System in it. #BecauseAwesome.
@Marc Bertucco‌ Dewey decimal is out and, I kid you not, the standard we use now is called MARC.

You're screwed then for sure :)
Race thread added btw. Ladies have at it.

Hey guys, I registered but can't race tomorrow. I think early April will be my first one. Can someone else race instead?

Awe, that's too bad Meredith! I think race registrations are non-transferrable. Airline flight-style. But maybe I missed something.

Looks like I shall be the solo Kissena in the field, which looks a little larger than last week. My only strategy is to stay up, ride strong, and try some of Marc's moves.

This depends on the promoter. Some are kinder and more customer oriented than others. From the accounts of the last CP affair, I suspect you are out of luck on this one. But it doesn't hurt to try and if someone else wants to try to take Meredith's spot, then Meredith should contact the promoter with information about the substitute (license number, name etc).
@kayt good luck and have a great race!!! I hope to be out there racing with you next time!!
Yeah good luck! And @Glori Campbell‌ I'll see you tomorrow night for what could be a very splishsplashy 5K.
Good luck!

Hi all. The red hook crit times changed. 5:30 women race and 6:30 men . Women 5k is now at 7:30. Hopefully I make it and see some of you.

Six reasons to register for the Syracuse Race Weekend

1. Dale recommended this as a great first stage race: it includes a hill climb, a crit, a time trial, and a road race. Pick and choose, or do them all!

2. The courses look awesome: http://onondagacyclingclub.org/syracuse-race-weekend/course-information/

3. Syracuse is relatively close--about a 5-hour drive from Manhattan--and Ithaca is on the way (Gimme! Coffee are Ithaca Bakery being mandatory stops)

4. The race fee for the entire weekend is a deal ($85) and the region in general is inexpensive: lodging is cheap and food is cheap.

5. There is a dedicated Women's Cat 4 field.

6. It's Erika's birthday weekend--recovery party!

Register here.

I want to do all of these! I can only sign up for Saturday and Sunday,
though, because I have a conference in Princeton on Friday. Do you think I
could send my bike up with someone Thursday and then take a train on Friday
evening? Advice? If I don't end up doing this then I was thinking of the
"Fondo" on Sunday even though I have no idea what that means.

I've done "Tour de Syracuse" for some years now. I can't seem to find my race reports from the weekend at the moment, but search for Syracuse brings up lots of mentions. Anyway, I'm a fan and I recommend the experience of racing back to back to back in differing formats each race. Missing the opening stage is okay in my book too.

P.S. I can't believe Kayt didn't give Purity ice cream shop a shout-out. Hello, cupcake sundae anyone? Jeesh.
Thanks, Marc. I'm going to figure out transportation and even though I hate
to miss the hill part, this sounds like a good scene for me!

@Marc, will do some searches for the 'Cuse on the forum--thanks for the tip. Purity ice cream is the jam, forgot about that place!

@Meredith, so glad you're interested! We can talk about logistics, and I'm sure we can sort it out.

Also, it goes without saying that all Kissenas--not just the women's team--should consider this race!

@Erika, how are you doing? Ready for Battenkill? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP0mQeLWCCo
Sorry I've been radio silence, ladies of Kissena! I've been so bogged down with work and a few unexpected family mini-crises, that there was a moment this week (okay, several) where I seriously considered pulling out of Battenkill. But everything's (okay, most things) are OK. Keeping my head down, eating lots of carbs, getting in a 'killah mindset.
