C'mon, and support our big race! Plus, the pro women's field is looking pretty awesome too. Over 30 elite women battling for real prize money and UCI points. Should be fun and inspirational to watch!
It's not only real prize money, but equal prize money.

BTW, mtb's without bar ends can race cx.
Actually I think it's *better* than equal prize money. Women get $1 more.
Any suggestions for a comfortable saddle for my adult daughter. More a commuter than a racer. But she's young and rides JP's team Fuji.
Lisa has a "Serfas Carma" that was well reviewed

get there a few minutes early and pick up your Stages Powermeter, look around the place, thank Ilya and Kasia, maybe get yourself a gift or two.
Then, we'll sit down and talk training.  Set up your year now.  Winter training is the foundation of your racing year.
Do it right and you'll go faster, win more, be happier, and have Jeff White filling your bottle with Mexican Coke whenever you want it.

That sounds awesome!

I went to the session last night. Very cool. Totally different style of the
program. I had my own personal pacer!

Any women want to join in on tonight's computrainer session? Door is wide open!

Just noticed that the CRCA is running the women's only race series again this year. If memory serves several of you participated last year?

Related, if anyone wants to ride some laps and recon the Central Park course (there are tricks to doing well on this course, even if you think your fitness isn't up to par) with me (a KCC mentor with strong knowledge of the CP course), let me know and we can try to schedule some time to ride/recon.

Just wanted to make sure that everyone knew that this weekend, in Prospect Park, is a women's only field racing. So far, only Kayt has signed up. If you are nervous about racing, this is a great place to get started. Especially with Kayt there to help you out. I'll also be there racing the 40+, and would be willing to chat about strategy, tactics or just help you pin on a number before your race. (I'm the KCC mentor with long hair and a beard for anyone who's not sure.)
I really want to do this race...it looks great!  However, I am working a 12 hour shift Friday and am not sure what time I will get home that night. Getting to Brooklyn from upper Manhattan after getting home late might be sort of an issue. So I'm a maybe at this point.  Would be great to get to race with Kayt!!!
Thanks @Marc! I don't know if I'd be able to help anyone out considering the sad state of fitness I'm in, but this is definitely a great race. @Julie, if you want a place to sleep in Brooklyn the night before, I have a very comfortable couch! Though I think the ride to Brooklyn that morning makes for a great warm-up.
Thanks Kayt!! It will be a game time decision for me based on the happenings at work.  If I don't make this one, I will absolutely be at the next one!

Interesting blog post about women in the sport of cycling.

I have to say that one time, when I was attempting to encourage a KCC woman to come out and ride and race with us, I got a "I'm not good enough" response. Now, she could have been just trying to get rid of me/end the conversation. But if she or you ever feel this way, I hope you'll give one of our group rides a shot. I like to think they are welcoming and an "apology free" zone.

Erika is back! Looking at the start lists for this coming weekend, it looks like KCC's own newish mom (although time flies when you are a parent, so actually her baby is probably applying for college already) is going to be racing at Turkey Hill. Julie, I don't know if you are already booked, but this is a great race perfect for powerful riders! Kayt, whatchya got going on? Would love to cheer all of you on this weekend in Washington Boro, PA!

Marc, this looks very tempting! Although, I haven't really been training for road races. However, I may consider. I was planning on doing the Lime Rock crit in CT on Sunday. We are so lucky to live in this area, there are SO many races this weekend!!
I’ll skip to the punch line: I won the W4 Central Park race today!

It was a pretty uneventful race coming into the final lap, a few surges here and there but nothing stuck. I pulled more than I probably should have, but I wanted to stay close to the front in anticipation of any charges. Two ladies from Rockstar were obviously plotting a move, which became all the more apparent when one of them attacked on Harlem Hill on the final lap. I stayed on the wheel of the one who I assumed would get the eventual lead out.  I think the field broke up then, because there were fewer of us when I looked back as I led the field through Horse Shit Alley.

But I wasn’t going to pull everyone through Cat’s Paw (oh hell nah), so I sat back and let the others do some work. I assessed my options when we came up the incline, do I want this wheel or do I want that one? The field was small enough at this point that I had my pick of the litter. Everything sped up and I could see the two Rockstars getting themselves in line. And sure enough, when the lead out came, I was third wheel. The first Rockstar died shortly after the turn into the final stretch, and the second Rockstar pulled me within 2000m of the finish line, when I gunned it. There was a split second where I thought I’d sprinted too soon (I always do and can't seem to hold it long) but I had enough gas and crossed the finish line first.

I realize now that this scenario is ideal, textbook-style race strategy. It’s taken me a while to put two and two together: to read the competition, to learn patience, when to go and when to sit back. Racing is hard. Despite everyone telling me to think, I haven’t really been thinking strategically about bike racing until now. Combined with luck and fitness, the payoff can be huge. And I mean “huge” as in mentally because as of today I got over a mental barrier that I can't win. Turns out I can get the job done.

That's awesome, Kayt.  It says Rockstar on their kit, but we know who the real Rockstar is.  Nice job kicking the shit out of that race.  And learning about racing. Pushing past your limits.  Having a breakthrough, epiphany right in the middle of New York Goddamned City.

Now. . . don't go.  Stay here and teach me how to do what you just did.
Thank you for all of that, @Bruce! Epiphanies do come at the strangest of times and in the strangest of places. And while "kicking the shit out of the race" would have been a one-woman breakaway for a half lap of Central Park, I'll gladly take the compliment :)
