A big thanks to JP for tonight's talk. Its always good to be reminded of what needs to be done in the off season.
any vids?
Should have asked...
Yang...you should know what I'm thinking...I'm wise to this charade...this is clearly an attempt to keep me from improving my wattage...an attempt that has failed miserably.  Concealed within my basement fortress, I see all.  My gaze pierces cloud, shadow, earth and flesh. You know of what I speak: a great Eye, lidless, wreathed in flame.  The eye watches ceaselessly.

BUMP!

Peoples of Kissena, particularly those of more recent vintage....

Every December, I lead a discussion on basic training principles.  Takes an hour or two.  I explain training for bike racing, present a simple guide for setting up your own training, and answer whatever questions you may have.

While it is geared toward newer riders, everyone is welcome.  Even if you're thinking of doing, or are doing, our TrainingPeaks plan, this can supplement that information.

There is written guide handed out.
There will be a quiz.
(by mid-season)

So, I have reached out to Redbeard to see if we can use their space.

How is 7:30pm on 12/15/15 (a tuesday)?
Sounds Awesome!  Thanks, JP!
i'd be interested JP
interested
Would love to, but committed that evening.  Perhaps notes can be shared?
Very interested but will be in Iowa the 15th. Would love to see a follow up or a post of the talk if possible!
BUMP!

It's on.  A week from tonight.  7:15pm at Redbeard.  Cancel all your other plans.  This is the place to be.

wow.  zero responses so far.  I feel special.
Boo-urns.

New racers and old goats alike, JP's talks are always really helpful.  If you can make it, I highly recommend learning from one of our most seasoned members!

James,
I'd prefer to give the talk in conjunction with.  As such, if we can get sufficient numbers (like 10 people) I certainly could do it again.
@mugwump Sure thing. Last night I signed up for the Peaks coaching and I watched Tim's October webinar last night too. It all starts now I guess.
Bump!

Newer and new members, this talk is for you. Scroll up for history.

Though it is open to all.

I've got two potential dates, Tuesday 12/5 or Thursday 12/7.
both @8pm @Redbeard.

This talk will help you frame what training you need to do to get the form you want to get the results you crave.  Come with questions.

I will post two more times, one will be for 12/5 and one will be for 12/7.
click "hotness" if you want to go and will definitely make it,
click "like" if you want to go and can probably make it.
click "disagree" if you want to go and you can't make it.
This message is for the 12/5 date

Riding a bike is easy.  Training for bike racing can seem hard.

I’m here to make training understandable, easier, fun.

There is so much to learn, so many rules that don’t seem like rules, guidelines that are invisible and you can’t figure out until you’ve strayed past them and can’t get back. Everyone wants to be fitter, stronger, faster.  Advice is easy to come by, but often doesn’t make sense and one person’s advice conflicts with another.  There are times when you think you know what to ask, but when you get the answer, realize you didn’t ask the right question.

I’ve been racing bikes for over 30 years.  It took me a while to get the hang of things, I experimented a ton, I tried different plans, I made mistakes, I learned.

I’m giving a talk on training for racing for members of the Kissena Cycling Club in December  Either Tuesday 12/5, or Thursday 12/7 @ Redbeard, depending on interest.

I refer to it as “The Basic Training Talk.”  I think of it as sharing how to fish—I give context, frame macro concepts, micro concepts, explain how training plans work, how to fit a training plan into your life, and even offer up basic training plans so that you can get yourself started.

The reason to do it at the start of December is to get you thinking about the 2018 bike racing season.  Three months gives you a nice build up to race fitness by March, which is when the racing season starts in our parts.  If you want to start racing later, then come anyways, you’ll get enough information to start when you want.

Everyone, can stand to learn.  Everyone can be smarter about their training.  This talk is focused on newer racers who are just dipping a toe in the waters of racing, but everyone can benefit.  There will be a handout.  You are encouraged to come with questions and ask them.
